  1. Something from our part of the world, new single by a local band, Taxi Violence - Brainmash. No official video yet but here's the track for now.
  2. Cool thanks PeterP, let the mayhem begin :)
  3. I markpoint everything I can see, especially all the nasty's (the ones that shoot back) before engaging in an area. Then I cycle through the markpoints with the sensors slewed, first objective is to minimise the enemy longer range defences. (missiles mainly). They always get the Mav treatment :D
  4. Windy has given up, hallelujah, praise god or whatever idols, thingy's you worship :D His last post was about some low fidelity SU-25 bs May he crash in peace :)
  5. alt tabbing in multiplayer for me has always been dodgey, with any dcs module. I can do it, but only for a few seconds. If I stay out of the active game window for longer it disconnects. Seems single player is less of an issue though.
  6. if you know what files are being updated regarding the flight model it should be easy to assess what has or has not been updated buy looking at the file itself and seeing when last it was modified compared to when you ran the update I dont experience these problems, at least that I know of.
  7. I spent the first 10 or so hours logbook time just lifting off, hover, and ground taxiíng really with a few brief circuits around the airfield. Most of (almost all) my landings were fireballs, but slowly got the hang of it. Some fine tuning on curves to what worked for me and my hardware and now the Huey is a breeze to fly and easy'ish to land. I still 'bin' a landing here and there when I rush it or loose concentration but for the most part one could feel relatively safe being PAX in my Huey with me at the controls (most of the time, hahaha :) )
  8. Before going to all that drama, open your dcs world up and look at the bottom right corner, that will indicate the version number, post it here then folks can see if its the latest patch.
  9. I used my U2NXT /Hal modded Cougar with Win 7 64bit no probs.
  10. Yup thats happened to me but it seems not all water = BOOM, only certain water surfaces. Function of the map/modelling I suppose. Roll on EDGE http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=109587
  11. Awesome mission Joyride thank you very much.
  12. I expect if the governor is damaged you would need to control it manually, but not sure if that damage is modeled, haven't had a failure yet.
  13. Welcome to the flingwing madhouse :) Check out this video, it will help with the force trim setup you need. For take off to counter act torque from the rotor you need back left stick and some left pedal, the extension to your Hotas is amplifying this, so you can easily set it up, then recenter the stick before you attempt take-off, you will need to retrim for flight though, and with the Huey as mentioned above, I also constantly retrim.
  14. It's a common experience diagnosed as 'flight-simming 101 syndrome', and it manifests itself in many many ways. Server crashes, cannot connect, game crashes without reason, artifacts, controllers not recognised, etc ,etc, + can't take off now added. When one finally finds the time to get some stick time, do not expect it all to go according to plan within that limited time frame. Nature of the beast. This experience is prevalent across all flight sim platforms in my experience. :megalol:
  15. Whats the readout on the 'dual tachometer' say for engine and rotor rpm? Are both needles (inner and outer) in the green essentially, indicting you are good to go. edit: sry, is it only this particular mission you are having trouble with or same for any others?
  16. Windy, post some tracks of your attempts then perhaps the folks here can give you some first hand tips. Its hard, but when you get the hang of it you can land without effort at all.
  17. So finished reading To The Limit by Tom Johnson, if you enjoyed ChickenHawk you will enjoy this one too. http://www.amazon.com/To-The-Limit-Pilot-Vietnam/dp/0451222180 So in one of the last chapters the Cav had a major op and a lot of ships went down. One comment he made was that when the heavy caliber NVA AA weapons got a fix on them they picked this up on the FM radios. Without digging for the detail, I imagine these were radar type guided gun emplacements. He said the FM radio would offer 2 warnings, one when the weapon picked you up and another a few seconds later when it had you locked and was actively tracking you. If you were able to pick this up, when you heard the second warning (interference) you could bet that rounds were already incoming on your flight path and they would take evasive action, drop some alt if possible and turn 90. Sounds like something that could be done in DCS. He was talking of 37mm edit: Just found the reference in the book. He said the FM radio squeals loudly for 3 seconds, then stops for about 3 sec, then again squeals for 3 seconds. First one was target acquired, second one was speed/direction is now computed, at the end of the 3rd squeal rounds are incoming. Interesting
  18. Book: To the Limit Chapter 13 'The Death of James Arthur Johansen, pg 191 http://www.amazon.com/To-The-Limit-Pilot-Vietnam/dp/0451222180 The chapter is an account of the mission the crash and the subsequent rescue of those that survived.
  19. Sry I have not tried yet, but is it possible to integrate comms with A-10 flights and the Huey? edit: ok I am a lazy git just saw this on the tars site So I gather it works.
  20. Thanks for the update EvilBivol. More toys for us, can't wait. On an aside regarding the radar Altimeter I am busy reading To the Limit by Tom Johnson, his account of time in the air Cav in Vietnam. On one mission at night flying low level one Huey crashed at 60-80kts into the dam they were overflying. For these types of flights it seems one of the tactics was the Huey commander gave the collective to the other pilot with strick instructions of what Alt to hold at all times while the AC controlled the rest. Long story short, (get the book its great), in the dead of night trying to rescue the crashed victims the AC actually had the crew chief and gunner take their boots off, and dangle their feet out each side of the Huey. (this in effect became their zero vis/low level altimeter) When their feet touched water they had to yell, and the pilot would respond with collective. TRhere was so much spray in the cockpit the instruments became unreadable. Even the guys with their feet out the Huey could not see the actual water surface it was so dark. They did not have radar altimeters in their ships at this time, all barometric with to much margin of error. Anyway, it was white knuckle stuff. The author did 3 trips that night, each with about 2 hours of low level hovering in pitch dark night over the crash site, using the protruding tailboom of the crashed Huey as his only visible hover reference point. I was sweating just reading this account. Incredible airman-ship.
  21. :megalol: Exactly, its a great utilisation of what is available at this stage in DCS. I fealt like getting on the radio a few times and telling the downed pilots to dig a hole and hide, cause I am #$%^^&^$ busy dammit :joystick: 1 of the downed pilots I picked up was in a village/built up area. There was a open rectangular park section about 100m from him, only clear place close by to land but it was quite tight. Did a fast flyby at 100knots to get a better view, pulled a hard turn to come around again and set my approach. Got him onboard but started to draw a little fire upfront, take-off, pedal turn and out the same way I came in. :) Hmm, at work now, want to go home and fly
  22. His AAR's on SimHQ are epic.
  23. Rep inbound!! That was great man, thanks Smoke is much better now. Flew around for about 1.5 hours picking up and dropping off, 1 ship airborne only, getting fired on here and there. Head was on a swivel :) Went after one of the convoys after I was on my way back with a pilot or 2 I had picked up in the cabin and asked those who needed help to pop smoke. Picked up 2 smokes a long way of on either side of the nose of my Huey, picked the one that was more direct to home plate. Got blown out of the sky in spectacular fashion:cry: Must get my mates together and hit this mission hard with more than one Huey in the mix. Thanks again
