  1. http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_427a.html This is a great article. Nice find. If you use large rudder deflections and cyclic inputs simultaneously, without lowering the collective, the chance of Rotor Disc collision is greatly increased. I now know why I have had to eject so many times when getting over excited during SAM/AAA evasion:D I kept thinking that I had been hit.....nope...my darned rotor cones had intersected! Well, naturally I told the CO it was AAA that hit the blades..:music_whistling: I fly like I own it! ( and have to do the maintenance;) ) That way I dont break it so often! This is another heck of a great sim! No skill, no fly!:smartass: Cheers.
  2. Hi, Page 401 of the updated manual,"Sensor Point of Interest", is a good read. If you want to "focus" everything on your set SPI, you need to press China Hat Forward Long. Thats "Slave All To SPI". All active sensors will then track the SPI. ( or wives,ex girl friends, tax men, even Santa....) Cheers.
  3. I have just re flown the Nato Tempus Fugit CSAR mission, I did some time ago.:music_whistling: This time with V 1.1.1.1...............Works better than before. Especially the support flights. They now do their roles professionally! ED has done a very fine patch. The team are to be congratulated, it truly is an awesome simulation. The sim is nearly perfect. Only one problem I observed. I had one flight member left after the rescue (#3). I had no radio menu for him and upon landing I herd him get stuck in an audio loop, " Rejoin...Rejoin". I had to turn off the UHF radio to shut him up! That said, if anyone wants a single player CSAR mission with the choice of support flights, this works well with the latest patch. HINT...If you want to switch ammo, try the CBU 105, in place of the CBU 97. This weapon, with its stand off, is a supreme armor killer. Interesting to watch from F6 also. You may also try the CBU103 for the infantry before they get to our downed pilot! Now to try the campains;) Best regards.
  4. Dean, try the SLI and see? For me, I would go with one 560. Thats a nice fast card. I'd only run two if going Multi Monitor, in Nvidia Surround. Two GPU's will not run anything faster (IMHO) and you will still only have 1 GB mem. 1+1=1GB:) But try it out and see! Don't forget Black Shark.....She's a beaut! ( If you run FSX forget SLI:D, I dont run any other sims, by the time you become current on both BS and A10..... it takes me all my time to remember each machine!! )
  5. Re our Hogs cannon.....Feast your eyes and ears on these! Never fails to awe how big those rounds are:thumbup: :D
  6. LAlt+H is the NVG Gain Up. LCtrl+H is NVG Gain down. Requires adjusting to your personal vision (and monitor!!) Then its sublime! The 30mm on the BMP 2 is the same gun as the Black Shark:music_whistling:. Its a 30 mm, 2A42 gas operated Cannon. Effective against light armor out to 1500 m and unarmoured targets to 2000 m. The weapon is also effective against air targets flying at altitudes up to 2000 m (6,500 feet). Each shell weighs in at .400 Kg! Love it on the Black Shark, hate it when its you on the receiving end:cry: My weapon of choice is the CBU-97 or the Mavrick....."The only way to be sure":D Cheers.
  7. Hi Dean, You just enrolled to the best flight sim ever ( well...Black Shark excepted;) ) The guys on here are serious combat simmers! Most questions will be answered quickly. I run TIR5 with a 27" Dell Ultrasharp...spot on for me. Just wondering why you opted for SLI? You can, of course go for multi monitors with that......:music_whistling: But thats covered elsewhere. Cheers.
  8. Hi Wolfstriked, Your original question of swerving under braking? I have my Saitek pedals mapped to brake (left=Lsft+W, Right=Alt+W). They are in Bands, the brakes come on at 75%. I only use these to add a little steering input when needed. ( Handy if you loose the nose wheel in combat or after a hard landing!:)) My solution is to map the brakes ( Both on, as W) to a joystick button (on mine its fire D only in mode 3, used for landing only) That way, provided I am straight after touchdown, I just hit Joy D and get both wheel brakes on, evenly, in anti skid. This provides consistant braking, without any swerve. Of course if the aircraft is not straight and has inertia to the left or right, it will swing. I just use rudder to correct and then, as we slow down, alternate wheel brakes, as you would in real life. Also I use full Boards, (Airbrakes) at my Decision Height and use more throttle to control airspeed and descent. That way if I need to go around I just pull in the the Boards and my engines are already spooled up for the go around. Since the latest patch 1.1.1.0, it may be my imagination, but the Jet flies smoother and my frame rates are up. Thanks ED, this sim is truly superb. Hope that helps a little. Cheers.
  9. Bit off the original topic this, but interesting. Is it modelled or not? I recently had an engine fire due to excessive(GG) RPM during a hurried take off.:) The book says the Electronic Engine Governers control fuel flow at high gas generator (GG) RPM and will shut down the engine in case of power turbine overspeed. The max is GG RPM limitation of 101%. Thats some 20,000RPM phew! Build em strong dont they? Anyway, when max GG RPM is reached the Left Engine PWR Limiter and the Right one will come on ( regularly see these lights, cause I dont have to pay the mechs!:D) The next step should be the PT protection, which generates a shut down command signal ( flashing MWL and the left and Right engine overspeed RED lights on the left part of the main panel.) You then should get the sexy Russian lady telling you that you have a PT overspeed. I have never got that so far. But it does depend upon the ambient tem and baro pressure! Like I said, I have had an engine fire on take off when I thrashed the engines! But I dont know if the GG failure contour is modelled? In my You Tube vid "Mountain Rescue" I am hovering half way up Mt Erebrus! and have the warnings on continuously, but never get a critical shutdown. The Engine Power Indicator measures the compressors outlet air pressure , seen as yellow markers on the scales. Centrally there are three red markers.."B","H","K". These are compressors outlet pressure at take off, max continuous and cruise modes. As for th OP topic. I'd say your laptop does very well to run these sims! There is more useage of the GPU as ED has increased the graphic beauty, but can be run with a CPU at 2.80 Ghz. Your vids are a testament to that! My i7 at 4.20, in a Coolermaster Cosmos, (that so big I have a spare bunk bed in it), still has micro stutters in places.......:D Cheers.
  10. I wonder what ED think? The "Core Parking" seems to apply to servers and is a power saving feature? I can not think why this would help our DCS sims. But I am not a software/hardware engineer:music_whistling: I see 2 cores of my i7 used during A10 and BS. What I see, thats very interesting, is a large increase in use of the GPU. More so with A10 than BS? The dreaded stutters can be a symptom of numerous hardware assemblies. HD speed and memory speed/capacity being but two. Interesting stuff.
  11. Meercat, I am really enjoying this post:D Your writing has an inbuilt subtle humor that has me chuckling to myself.:) I have just passed the 100 hour mark on the Ka 50, nominal compared to what a RL Kamov pilot would do, yet its begining to make sense when I fly. I liken it to riding a bicycle or motor bike, because after a while, conscious contol inputs become unconscious. Anyone who rides a bicycle after a while does not "think" how to balance and steer and pedal. As for our Kamov's Cyclic and Trim ( oh I said it:helpsmilie:) and the Collective become as one ( Obeeone?). I liken it to the bicycle in that I do not consciously realise what control inputs and Trims I am making? It seemingly becomes an unconscious set of actions. The only conscious actions become, "who is shootin' at me and where are they etc.", in other words combat actions. Yet I will bet even these would become "unconscious" or automatic if you could get to 1000 hours:pilotfly: Whilst we are "programming" or "teaching" our brain to achieve these inputs as one, so to speak, its difficult to break the actions down into a conceptual model. Suffice to say, the old adage of practice makes perfect would seem to be an Axiom. A RL Kamov pilot and/or some more cockpit footage would be a nice thing. In the meantime keep up the great work. A superb sim and a forum to go with it:thumbup: Cheers.
  12. I "borrowed" this from PeterP on the Problems thread. It illustrates the way I fly the Ka 50. After every small Cyclic input "Trim" Click and release Cyclic back to centre. If you listen to the guy in the vid he is "trimmin" like twice per second. Just a thought.:joystick:
  13. I think the "Deployment" campain has the mission balance just right. Either that or its the chat from the wingy...suspension of disbelief, for me it makes a good sim mission/campain.:D The Oil Wars are not as compelling and are not scripted the same. I am re flying them, with some added variations of my own to try to spice em up a bit. The BS2 pit's in Cyrillic, isn't it? Or is there a mod for an English version? Cheers. PS A Russian friend commented on one of my You Tube Vids of the Shark, in Cyrillic! Didn't have a clue what he said, maybe just as well:lol:
  14. Hi all. Anyone know if/when Ricardo will upgrade his HD pit for the BS v2? The BS1.02 HD pit is superb ( In my humble opinion). :) BTW, I recently replayed all the "Deployment" campain in 1.02 and found it even better 2nd time around. I really appreciated the "chat" between the wingman, it puts something special into the missions. When your wingman talks of his father taking him skiing etc.... good way to learn Russian:D. These are superb sims:thumbup: Cheers.
  15. There is nothing old and slow about your computer! The A10 and now, the BS2 game engine is using 1 core to run the entire shooting match. It uses 1 more core to run the sound. Now if you have a 6 core super fast CPU, 4 of your cores are just not being used by the sim. The GPU is more heavily used in A10 and BS than FSX, which as we all know hammers the life out of the CPU alone. So a fast GPU will help our case. In the end, we are asking a lot of code to run fast down a single core. A10 and BS are the finest Simulations of Flight and Battlefield interdiction.(IMHO) I would love to see a re code using all the cores our multi core CPU's have:) In the meantime......Keep buyin' them and promotin' them. Then we will get a Fast Jet sim with multi core functionality:D SU35.......:smilewink: Regards.
  16. My understanding is that;- When you "click" the trimmer you are setting the currently held Cyclic attitude as new centre datum. Hence, the proceedure is;- set attitude with cyclic, "click" trimmer, release cyclic to null centre within 0.5 seconds and so on. Holding the Trimmer down between cyclic inputs does not provide an accurate centre datum for attitude. I use this proceedure and it works for me in the Ka-50. I have never flown a AH-64 so can not comment on that helo. The film example, provided by Viper, demonstrates this by the pilot constantly "clicking" trim at every cyclic (attitude) change. This is my favorite example. Watch the Cyclic graphic in the top right window. Its released after each cyclic input and trim.:joystick: http://youtu.be/KWxzKHThcZU I dont think you could fly it with the trim pressed down and then released at the next desired attitude:D
  17. Good points. I use 4 frequently. Additionally, I enter targets marked with the Skhval, as TO points ( up to 9) and use the Autopilot to fly to the "marked" points. Whilst its flying to the marked targets, I have extra time to look around for threats and more targets. I guess thats why Kamov put these autopilot functions in, since we are flying the ship alone and need that extra automation. What a superb sim this is!:D Just gone back to it from the A10..refresher courses needed:thumbup:
  18. Agree with the above. I find that I have to be stationary, ie, no lateral movement, before the "auto hover" is engaged and trimmed perfectly. If I understood its function correctly, it should "hold" the current lateral position. I always find there is a lateral drift however:(
  19. If you enter the same path in "Notebook++" , you can just edit it if you get killed also. Notebook++ is a freeware d'load.:D
  20. I dont see why not. ( Although I dont know how to go about it) Maybe someone who does MP missions could help here? I only wanted to share these missions, that I did primarily for myself, since the missions in the sim didn't really have what I wanted. I was also inspired by Zamboni's films of the Devils Cross campain. Tryin to "make em, fly em and film em"!:) This one would be good (I imagine) in MP, since you could assign a "player" to a threat. A couple on CAS, one for the mobile SAM's and one or two on the SU25's ( Top Guns :smilewink: ) The AH64's and AH1's in the sim were meant to support the player by taking out some of the threats, so these could be removed and the "real pilots" fly that aspect. Everyone would need to rearm at least once and the mission would be over in half the time. Maybe:music_whistling: I was just thinking how a MP scenario would be if the SU25's could be flown as well as the A10's? I know when ED does the compatibility patch for Black Shark, it would be possible to fly that in MP.......interesting;) Still, its to easy to take out a KA-50 with an A10c....now the Su-25TM and Archers.... not so easy?....
  21. Yes, with my system there is a slight increase in stutters, however I was hoping that the pilot would be too busy to notice!;) (Labels are a killer also) If ED ever re-codes the sim for the use of all the cores available on the CPU, ( placing the graphics on a separate core or two would be a good start) then the simulation code could run on a separate core. Rather like FSX with sp2. But, like you say for the average system, I think this mission is pretty much maxed out for the most part. If the action is timed to be "paced" ie. triggers work slower and in sequence and the action is over a larger area, perhaps the graphical load can be reduced? Actually, I have a version now that has a navel component! You have a Corvette and a couple of rescue boats off the coast which have triggers if/when they are attacked. You could even include a sea-borne assault? Perhaps I should try and sequence it into a campain?:smilewink: Thanks for the input.
  22. Hi, TACAN and ILS are on separate frequencies. So no conflict. TACAN points to the TACAN beacon and gives the distance and the bearing (Pointer no 1). ILS has the Glideslope and Localiser on your "needles" ( ensure the needles are uncaged) On my aircraft the no 2 pointer points to the waypoint and no 1 pointer to the TACAN...provided its tuned and in range;)
  23. I have worked hard on my previous "Dangerous Escalation" mission and produced "Finest Hour". After much testing, tweeking and re testing, I believe I have finally produced a close run mission, which will run more like a mini campain. I have reduced, or allowed for, as much of the AI's tendency to "do it their own way". This was a headache and was spoiling the "balance" I wished to create. I wanted you/us to be the decisive influence. It can ( and should ) take a minimum of 1 hour to complete. Try to stay alive until the "end", as there is an exciting conclusion. (In this mission "it aint over till its over":)) This is a mission I myself like to repeat fly and I hope you will all want to fly it a few times to see how it runs each evolution. Oh and if anyone has never seen how ED has modelled an ammo dump being blown up, you just might see it at the conclusion!:music_whistling: I have a couple of photo's as a taster. ( Another video would have just been an editing nightmare as there is so much going on here!) Enjoy and stay alive;) Finest Hour.zip
  24. Or even when you have this unfortunate mishap......with those SAM's;)
  25. Taken during my Clear Escalation/Dangerous Escalation mission..... Some SAM shooters will do anything to get their mark! The results.... Tough Guys those SU 25's!;) We got to fly into the sunset though!
