Laser Warning Receiver (LWR) - Possible Bug?
Xxx replied to FlyMaker's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Time to fit that ECM suite.... This article would have us believe that the Ka-50 has;- Avionics Flight systems include inertial navigation system (INS), autopilot and head-up display (HUD). Sensors include forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and terrain-following radar. Countermeasures The Ka-50 is fitted with a radar warning receiver, electronic warfare system and chaff and flare dispenser. Erm...Here's the link;- http://www.army-technology.com/projects/ka50-black-shark/ Well...its a thought?:megalol: Cheers David -
I have been using the original TurboHog JTAC/AWACS mod in the Ka-50 for a while. Works brilliantly even on latest 1.5 and 2.0. I just downloaded the latest JTAC/AWACS mod from the downloads and installed it with JSGME. The coordinates are now in MGRS..."MN411008". The Ka-50 uses Lat. Long. inputs so how do I use MGRS in the Ka-50? Meanwhile I will go back to the earlier version. Thanks.

I believe the majority of updated tech went into the Ka-52 two seater? The Ka-52 Glass Cockpit for sure, photos of which look superb!...(Hint DCS any plans?) Kamov Ka-50N : Ka-50 with improved Night attack capability. Kamov Ka-50Sh : Ka-50 with improved Night attack capability. I guess these could be modded into the DCS Black Shark? We already have NVG though. The R73 would be difficult due to the pods on the wings outers? But its a tempting fantasy...... Speaking of anti air self defence, I recently saw two of my wing men (#3 and #4) take out an A10, (AI) just using their cannon, that made me smile!:smilewink: The Black Shark was one of the first DCS titles. I guess you either love it or not, as the case may be. For me, its a superb simulation of a single seat attack helicopter and does what it says on the tin! I still keep going back to it and after some hours re typing, it has all the old thrills! Regards David
-
Thank you. I deleted the input/KA50 folder and let it rebuild. That worked great. I have no idea what happened, its been 6 months since I flew the Black Shark so I am re typing....:smilewink: Best Regards David

Hello. I have just loaded up the Black Shark, in simulation mode, after not flying since the last update and the Collective is redded out in the controls. I have no collective which worked previously with my Saitek X-55. Any one know what has changed? Regards David

A vid of the Flanker in EO mode only. F15 pilots need not look! ED. Please make this cockpit 100% clickable. Its your best fighter. In My Honest Opionion!:)

After take off I can not change any waypoints using, LCtrl+' or LSft+'. The other elements in the flight are not taking off with me? Everyone sit there like idiots! I have no flight following me? Has this been broken in the last update? That's it for me in this campaign! Waste of time! This is mission 7 by the way. The other missions seemed ok. I paid for this campaign by the way!! Latest Alpha. :helpsmilie: Please make this editable for us? I would like to fly the campaign in the SU 27!!:D If its all Alpha why can we not edit the thing???????

Name: Escort Rescue Author: Accipiter Mission Type: Single Player, Controllable: Ka-50 or Mi-8 Quick summary: Flying the Ka-50, with a wingman, escort two Mi-8 rescue helicopters to the mountains at Mt. Elbrus, to rescue two downed pilots. Download link: (from DCS User Files) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/upload/iblock/4b2/Rescue_Pilots.miz This mission uses JTAC's and AWACS. If you download the Mod by TurboHog, you may use the JTAC and AWACS in the Black Shark. Please read the Full mission description in the game which provides the radio frequencies for JTAC. Watch a video of the mission with TACVIEW also, on my You Tube channel, link in the signature below.

Further to the above. The negative coordinate is now available to input. :):) However, when using the JTAC, there is an error of about 70 nm. e.g. the cords given by JTAC are;- N37.46.542, which is correct. W117.52.126...Incorrect. This is 70 nm away from the actual target. Actual target, from the mission map, is W 116.0.42. I don't know if its the magnetic variance, further investigation is needed. EDIT. OK, for those using TurboHog's excellent JTAC mod, I believe that if you subtract 1 degree 43 minutes from the cords given by JTAC, then you will have a good coordinate. e.g. Coords given as 117.51.41 - 1.43 = 116.08.41, I tested this with my mission coordinates and this worked!:D:thumbup::thumbup:

This is great news! I am away from my PC at the moment, so can not try it out, but if its fixed then we can use the JTAC from Turbihog...:D:thumbup:

All of the above, but I like to create single player missions that are complex and balanced, so the player makes a vital difference to the outcome. Also add random triggers so every time you fly the missions, they are different!;) Also missions that enable the player to swap sides and fly the oppositions aircraft, thIs makes DCS a great hobby, in my honest opinion!:)

I have just updated. However, I can not see the "High Stakes" campaign? All I have is the "Challenge" campaign? Are these both the same thing? Or do I have to download it separately? Cheers. EDIT. Forget the above post, I just saw its $9.99...................:music_whistling:

Letting DCS get it together
Xxx replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I sympathise. Does this happen with other modules? There are instances with the Hawk, whereby the files from 1.5.3 are copied over to 2.0 during an update. This can cause issues. On my system, I have both 1.5.3 and 2.0. My Hawk is not updated and I see issues with the mission planner as well as the Hawk module. I believe the answer is to completely delete the Hawk from both versions of DCS and the clean install the Hawk module. I am not saying its purely a Hawk problem, but its my chief suspect at the moment! However, as has been said, we are in an Alpha for 2.0. So I guess we must expect some growing pains. Best regards David -
The AI is really getting out of hand
Xxx replied to LordFluffyBottom's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I prefer SP Campaigns and missions, especially making my own. Like many, its the convenience of flying when I like that's important and not having to team up with anyone or disappoint! I think ED are aware if the shortcomings of the AI. The damage modelling is wrong. A fifty calibre hit should accrue some damage. Several fifty calibre hits should be very effective. I can score quite a few hits with the F86 into its opponents, with no effect. The AI pilots are all supermen! They fly very well all the time and never get G lock! I think its only time before things will improve. The Red Flag Campaigns are a success, all have modern equipment though and to be honest its the older Jets and WW2 aircraft that suffer...In my honest opinion. Before the WW2 maps are out, I bet ED will have a better AI model.;) Regards David -
Having read this thread, as always, it demonstrates that we are all passionate about our DCS sims.:) I quote the above as I am in agreement about the fact we all sit in a chair and look at a screen with plastic (or metal) joystick controls. Some are lucky enough to have sim pits, but the result is the same. We have only a small fraction of the true visibility and absolutely no physical feel, peripheral vision or ability to feel we are actually flying. So, whilst its important to have simulations that fly to the correct numbers, its also important to cater for the simmer, as described above. We (I) require enhancements that can overcome the minimalized flight environment in which we (I) fly. I have just returned to DCS after a period away. My original favourites are as good/better than before (A10C and Ka50):). Hours of fun ahead, campaigns, missions, self created missions, lovely! I just took my P51 up for a test flight/fight from Nellis. My thoughts are that the following is missing from my experience. 1. The flight model of the P51 may have been adjudged "accurate" from a real P51 pilots point of view, looking at a small screen and flying with a couple of plastic joysticks. Also I am sure ED looked very seriously at the numbers. But for me (Mr Average Flight Simmer) the P51 is not pleasurable to fly and fight in. I don't get the same experience in the A10C or the Black Shark. Challenging as those aircraft are, I go back to them each time with relish ;) Obviously each to his own. But I am looking forward to future releases from ED with a Europe WW2 map and the promise of dog fights over the Channel? (anyone remember Combat Pilot, or Microprose?) 2. The Mustangs adversary (Me109K and Dora) in the AI model are impossible for me to fight! So as has been discussed, an AI model that doesn't possess super human skills is required. 3. The enemy aircraft model needs to have limitations. i.e., bits fall off and radiators leak when hit by a fifty cal round. (Never managed that yet!) As has been said, AI that are subject to our (simulated) aircrafts physical limitations, not to mention the simulated G lock. 4. We can never have the peripheral vision the real guys had, (even with the O.R.) but we do have an excellent padlock view. Even if, in my case, its always pointing astern! I am not saying that the WW2 simulated aircraft should be dumbed down, far from it, but just moderated to fit a guy sat in a chair from Staples with a couple of plastic joy sticks and sat in front of a little screen.:joystick: Without Radar, Lasers, and modern combat optics, an approach is needed that provides a satisfying experience. I don't fancy going back in to the Mustang, save for a pleasure flight around The Strip. But we can do that in FSX!:music_whistling: Anyway just my two penneth. Best Regards David. Oh BTW I managed a climb to 28500' over Nellis, before I stalled and spun out!

Or you could select "easy radio comms" from the main menu. Thereafter, you can talk to anyone, on whatever radio, without tuning it.;) "Auto" will appear above the radio menu. :)

Interesting thread! Perhaps a way to test if there is sufficient ground effect in the model, is to see if there is any Vortex Ring State reproducible when in ground effect? With the dampening of the tip vortices, when in ground effect, is the Vortex Ring eliminated? Whatever the answer, this simulation is certainly a fascinating and addictive one for me. The "art" of flying this ship in combat is truly amazing! I think this is the oldest sim from ED. I take my hat off to them, its a great one!:)

A movie of the mission. Your task is to provide escort for two Mi8 rescue helicopters. You are to clear the Landing Zone and facilitate the extraction of two downed pilots. Enemy forces are approaching. The LZ is near Mt. Elbrus, Europes highest mountain. High altitude flight and fight, to test your flying and fighting ability. Mission is successful when Mi8's are clear of the LZ and safely on route to base, with the two rescued pilots on board.:smilewink: Available to download from DCS user files, as a single player mission. If you have the JTAC/AWACS Mod from TurboHog, I have included Forward Air Controllers, as Special Forces.;) Enjoy! David.

Havn't got to the end of the F15 Red Flag yet, but this can happen in #5. Mission fail.......wait a bit.......Mission success?:music_whistling: Must be the way the flags are set. If Mainstay killed, flag=Success. If Colt killed=flag=fail. I surmise its how the priority is set? I wish we could edit the Capaign?

I do the same with Voice Attack. First of all my English keyboard does not use the / or \ for comms. It uses the # key. So I have a Voice Attack command "comms on"= #. This can of course be mapped to the actual button on your stick/throttle. The result is the same. It opens the comms menu on your screen. As for a list of comms commands, they tend to differ per sim. Also since the comms menus are dissimilar, I have "F1 to F12" mapped in as well. If you just fly one or two simulations, then there is no problem with mapping all the commands in. However many sims comms commands are reticulated in different ways. As for issues, I have none with Voice Attack. But I am used to using MCE and as with Voice Attack, you must use the windows speech training quite a few times before the voice recognition becomes totally efficient. With Voice Attack you can even do macros. E.g. in Black Shark I have "wingman, engage, multiple data linked targets". One voice command and multiple key presses! VA, doesn't replace a HOTAS, but has replaced all key presses for my comms.:) Hope this helps. Regards David.

How do you enter western cords. in PVI-800
Xxx replied to canadianbaken's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Having got TurboHogs superb JTAC and AWACS Mod working in 1.5.3 and 2.1, I tried compiling a mission in DCS 2.1. I could not enter the west coordinates. As previously stated in this thread, pressing "1" to get the "-" or west coordinate, then when trying to enter a coordinate west 117.522.98 resulted in a 175.229.8. This was about 500 miles away. However, the inputs in the Caucuses map are fine. Those all being +, or east. I hope ED gives this some attention for the NTTR Map. The JTAC Mod, for the Black Shark, can not be used in Nevada, at the moment. Perhaps it will be done before we see the amalgamation of 1.5 and 2.0?:music_whistling: Regards, David. -
Hello Home Fries. In DCS 1.5.3 TurboHog's JTAC and AWACS works fine. Coordinate entry is fine. However, when we move to NTTR and DCS 2.1, the story is not so good. The JTAC works fine but we can not enter western coordinates. Its the coordinate input for negative (-) that can not be inputted. eg. target input at N37.50.033...This is entered ok. However west is a problem. W117.52.489 can not be entered. After inputting the 1, for negative (-), the keypad will not allow another "1" key press for the first coordinate. So we end up with W011.52.489:mad: So if you can find a work around for this we will be in business for DCS World 2.1. To reiterate, the issue I had with the original TurboHog file was the folder labelled "aircrafts". Amend this to "aircraft" and the mod works. At least that's what I found. See my video for a demo flight. Best Regards David For example, a JTAC

The Samsheet 50, designated UOMZ. Since 1997, this has enabled night time combat in the Ka 50. With fully infrared targeting! Now that I can fly with full JTAC support enabled, courtesy of TurboHog's mod. I recently flew the " Smerch hunt", substituting the A10C with our Black Shark. The one thing that was noticeable was the lack of an I.R. imager. Picking out those targets, at a safe range was more challenging!;) I recommend the "Smerch hunt" mission in the Shark, its very interesting to compare its effectiveness verses the Hog! Cheers. David
