  1. In Mission 6, the JATAC "Moonbeam", was in the middle of the northern target group. My 97's took it out and I committed fratricide? Either I was slow getting to the target and the enemy had surrounded our JTAC or else the JTAC is badly positioned. (M1043 Unit) Naturally I can not see his position during the attack, but would presume he is not mixed up with the enemy? Otherwise a good mission. Edit. Only by using TACVIEW did I see what had gone wrong! TACVIEW is highly recommended! Also, may I say that if we could edit these missions ( for our own personal use and not for any form of re distribution) the enjoyment and learning factor would be increased, in my honest opinion. Best regards.
  2. Mission 4 was completed.:) I am now back in mission 4 after a week away from my computer and guess what? I am still on mission 4. I can not progress. Can anyone help out here. Can I edit the log some how?:helpsmilie::helpsmilie:
  3. Is any one using the Laste wind correction in Red Flag in DCS 2? If so, are you using a magnetic declination as positive 13 degrees. That's +13 and not -7 as for the Caucuses in 1.5. I think it works ok, provided inputs are correct t the start of each mission.:)
  4. Well, I completed mission #4! The disturbingly realistic experience underlined the fact that I actually needed the wingman to support my attack. I know there are pilots out there who will laugh and say they took out the SA19 's by themselves, but not this pilot! All the successful training in the world can't beat that "live fire" feeling...even in a sp campaign. You can feel confidant completing your training missions, only to "forget" how you did it when the bullets are flying in your direction! For the first time I experienced AI wingman flying sensibly.....and as a joint attack, proved very sucessful. Now I am wondering about a WW2 campaign, with Spits and Me109s over the south coast.....my silk scarf blowing in the wind from my open canopy on return to mother earth...:D
  5. Thanks for that Steve. Also thanks again for a great Campain. Its totally immersive and very addictive!:D I have still not succeeded with mission #4. To avoid having to cross The Farms at 17000' I have taken my route up a little, just north of The Farms. This permits my ingress at low level, where I feel happier;) Also avoiding those Mig caps. Situational awareness is failing me at the moment! Last night I flew over the top if the primary without knowing where I was and got a SAM up my tail pipe for my mistake!:megalol: Great fun and a great experience....even loosing!
  6. I had two pilots running in the same campain. This was causing my problem. So I deleted them both and began again with only one pilot. This seems to work. Thanks guys, this is a great simulation!
  7. Dumb question Maybe there's no such thing, but I feel very dumb here! I have completed the first two missions of the red flag campaign, but every time I go to try mission 3 I get put back to the start? Any ideas what's wrong here:helpsmilie: Cheers.:joystick:
  8. I use the X55 and have just started up again with DCS on a new PC. First, ensure you don't have any anti virus software running. I disable mine during set up. I removed the duplicate bindings in the control panel (main GUI) then proceeded to assign the X55 with the GUI. I also use the Madcats software to utilise the three modes..So far its worked ok, however make sure you don't duplicate commands.:-) I have all hats assigned to CMS, DMS, TMS. But I use TIR 5 so don't use the stick for views. I had initially plugged the x55 in to USB 3. But now use USB 2, which helped. My x55 is now ok, but I needed to set the sticks up in W7 control panel also, to ensure everything was working. Good luck. Cheers.
  9. mission #4 altitudes puzzle? In mission #4, lineup card has us pushing from 7 to 8 over The Farms at 8000' msl. That's 3000' agl? We are advised to overtly The Farms at 12000' agl, to avoid special forces Sam's. I will be flying this mission over the weekend, just wondering if anyone has completed #4? I presume we must fly at 17000 msl, pushing from 7 to 8, or can we just ignore the altitudes? Cheers.:)
  10. ;)I think the time is right for an all singing and dancing cockpit, similar to the A10c? Or perhaps, over to the blue side, an F15c with more radar modes, like the BMS Falcon. Super Hornet.....? maybee....ya never know?:)
  11. Just returning to DCS and this article is an excellent refresher to this great aircraft. I'd forgotten how good the IRST is. Using the vertical IR scan with lock depressed, then launching either a IR missile or a radar guided, is a good method, especially if employed from a stealthy position. If employing a radar missile, the fact that, upon launch, it activates the radar for you, is great! I like to keep low ( mountains if available) and strike from below.:smilewink: Hope we can get a fully modelled DCS 27 or a mkk in future?:music_whistling: Regards David
  12. Once established localiser (vertical bar) and glideslope is intercepted. I use power to maintain AOA and therefore the glideslope. The stick I use for localizer corretions, i.e. left or right. So throttles to stay on glideslope. Stick to stay on localiser (runway centre line). Best fun, short of becoming an ace in combat!!:pilotfly: Regards David
  13. I just got going again with DCS and 2.1. Last flew in 1.2! What I am doing, after reinstalling my modules, is to use "save as" after entering a key bind. However I have found that if you highlight the column, but save as (for example F86 Sabre) that key bind is saved. If I move to another column, say throttle and enter a new key bind and "save as" F86 Sabre, that column is saved under F86 Sabre. There is no need to save separate "save as" profiles for separate columns (controllers), all controllers get saved into one profile. I am using the X55 Saitek. So I have three columns (controllers). Throttle, stick and rudders. All get saved as F86 Sabre. The three columns saved under one title. But I highlight each key bind before saving as F86 Sabre. All three controllers saved as one file F86 Sabre. I can load F86 Sabre and I get all three controllers (columns) loading correctly, from one file, namely, "F86 Sabre". Hope this makes sense and helps out a bit. Of course its early days yet after my lay off and new install. But so far this method has worked with three aircraft....including the Hog! Cheers David
  14. Looks like there are 2, 8 way coolies on the stick. So The question is which of the following would be the best? Which one actually works the best? Or.. Or my old faithful, which does work with part SSt codes and Part DCS direct GUI assignments. So if anyones got some working profiles...?
  15. Many thanks to all you guys. I have managed to compile a HOTAS (of sorts) for the SU 27. Here's what I did. Installed the latest Saitek Driver version, 7.0.34.109 and the latest software version, 7.0.27.13. Then used a combination of SST keys programmed and some direct DCS bindings. Direct DCS bindings on the unshifted Saitek key states and a few shifted states with SST keybinds! The Radar range etc is on the throttle slider and radar elevation on rotary 1.Rotary 2 also works with HDD range. So its an improvement on my last attempts. This has taken me all afternoon! But I think I may have a workable solution now. Its trail and error to determine what works and what doesn't! Hope this helps anyone else who is struggling! At least it shows you can make do with the X52 pro if your budget wont stretch to a Warthog/X55! Cheers David
  16. Same problem here after the latest 1.2.12 update. So what's changed graphically? This is very disappointing and affects all aircraft.
  17. Specifically the SU 27 for DCS World? Since I have had little success with my Saitek X52 pro in writing an SU 27 HOTAS profile, I wondered if anyone has done a profile for any sick for the SU 27? There are none in the files that I can see. I have tried direct DCS World GUI and using just the X52 profiler, also a combination of both. With very mixed results. The problem I have seems to be a delay or lag in stick to sim. The keyboard works just fine alone, but when I assign keys to the stick, the input does not match the output. "Lock" or "Enter" is not working, yet does work from my keyboard. The "Stick to Trim" is not working and the radar modes are unreliable. Since I use the X52 in HOTAS X52, for the A10c and the Ka-50 Black Shark, both in DCS World and alone and have no problems whatsoever, I surmise its something pertaining to the SU 27. Maybe I am alone in these problems?:mad: Perhaps its my X52 and/or software? Regards David
  18. I have just begun to use my x52 pro with the DCS World SU27. I am finding that many of the key bindings programmed into the x52 profile are inoperable or inaccurate. :( For example "active pause" (Lsft+LWin+Pause) results in an ejection. The "Enter" lock key does nothing, no matter what button I allocate it to. The radar sensors also have only limited availability. Is this my problem alone or does anyone else have this issue with the Saitek X52 pro and the SU 27. Its been a while since I used the profile editor. All the key bindings work perfectly for the A10c. Also other aircraft work just fine, so I exclude the possibility its my X52 (which is new) or the software. I am open to any ideas. EDIT. Strange one this, its like the key-sends get stuck in some sort of buffer. Rotating the x52 mode wheel from 1 through 2 to 3 and back to 1 seems to enable the key presses to work? Its only happening with the SU27 so I am baffled? Cheers David
  19. Here's a video/movie of a mission I formulated adding on to the previous "Sting in the Tail" mission. Its uploaded to the "Files" section, but I guess the guys are busy this weekend! Its a Huey mission:- Description from the You Tube video. Hope its entertaining, I surely enjoyed writing the mission and it flies quite well too!:D ""A movie based on a DCS single player mission I created, Valkyrie. The mission has objectives. Here you are flight commander of a flight of 4 UH1-H Huey's. With a platoon of marines aboard, you must infill to a hot LZ. On route you are tasked to eliminate a blocking force of infantry guarding a fortified house stronghold. These forces are preventing a FAC APC group from advancing. A navigation challenge is added by the use of the UH1's RDF. The enemy are transmitting on two VHF frequencies. You may use the Huey's RDF to give you a pointer to the enemy position. Once in range, the friendly FAC will mark the enemy with red smoke and pop blue to eliminate uncertainty as to what you must attack!! Blue air, A10c's, will degrade the enemy resistance at the LZ. Once in-filled you provide CAS to your marines as they disable the enemy coms tower and TV mast. You then provide exfiltration and RTB. The mission is scripted in a way to encourage rapid execution. A Sting in the Tail awaits if you are tardy. The enemy will launch a retaliatory strike on your forces 5 km north of the LZ. The area becomes hotter with time. The mission provides a backup force of 2 Huey's if your flight suffers too many losses to complete the exfil. Thus you can have a second chance (DCS hop between airframes is handy here..(would that be nice in real life...?) So there you go, enjoy the movie and try the mission."" Best Regards David Valkyrie.zip
  20. :D
  21. Wow that was fast! Thanks very much guys. I have forgotten quite a bit since I last flew DCS.
  22. Someone once said there is no such thing as a stupid question so here goes... What is the location of the screenshots, or where are they saved? I cant find any reference in the manual. Thanks David
  23. This looks like a very interesting project. I have recently got back in to DCS with the "World". The spread of aircraft over several decades gives the mission builder some great historical challenges. These sim aircraft fly very well and in this case we don't require a PhD in HOTAS profiles! Assuming the main threat to thwart the attack is AAA. We have the ZU 23 mm Ural as a mobile AAA in the sim. With a range of 2 kilometres up to about 6000'. The WW2 allied AAA was a bit more limited on mobile columns. I think the US had some 40mm Swedish Bofors but for the most part they were the good old fifty cal mg's, mounted on turret tops and half tracks. So I guess its a trial and error method to derive a good balance for the column defence. Then there is the weather, which provided challenges by itself! Getting the degree of difficulty right is the art of the mission planner and what makes this sim so compelling! I tend to go for the hard line approach. i.e. after the first pass I would enable some hidden (inactive) AA units that become super aggressive. This would deter frequent passes and give the sense of fear when running in again! Like Robin Old's used to say you don't want to attack AA guns unless they are the mission target! Well done, great idea. The Me 109 is eagerly anticipated! Regards David
  24. Thanks Buddy. Well if you take a look at my latest video you may recognise some more NATO recordings! I did a simple DCS World mission and have just uploaded it to explore some of the features of DCS World. Also to explore the use of different platforms/weapons systems to attack a small APC column. It was a good exercise in remembering how the Mission Planner works not to mention the old HOTAS.......Oh my, 3 years of non use gets your brain very rusty!:joystick: Here is a link to the video;- There is also a counterpart mission, I recently uploaded. I call "Blue Mirror Sting in the Tail". This allows the pilot to fly for the Blue coalition in either the A10c/Huey or even the F86, if you want to add a historical aircraft to the mission. The interest here is the use of the A10c/Huey to undertake the mission previously done by the Su25T and Ka50! The "sting" is the new DCS SU27! All academic but interesting! Best Regards David
  25. I certainly agree with the above comment. After being away from DCS for 3 years or so, I recently downloaded DCS World and bought all the aircraft modules for the sim. I must say I am hooked yet again into the world of mission planning, HOTAS profiling and flying multiple aircraft simulations. Add in the Combined Arms and ability to hop about between aircraft/vehicles and its a superb basis for further development. As for multi core CPU/GPU support, well, my PC is 5 year old tech (i7 + GTX 580) and runs DCS World fast and stable. I cant see my new install on its last legs just yet! Things can only get better and we have some very gifted programmers out there, so things are looking good indeed! Best Regards. David
