  1. Rumour has it that in patch 1.0.10, ED has included a hot key, so when you are in the A10c you can evade SAM's ( or pretty much anything!);- ;)
  2. Are you.. Worried by weather?... Mortified by Migs?... Frustrated by lack of IADS at your airbase?... Require a wingman?...and a sunset to fly into.... Then you may need.... "Clear Escalation"...A variation on the mission and a better recipe for success! Brings more grins when you wins.. Its in a Zip due to a slightly larger file size ( mostly winning anthems:music_whistling:) If you want to see how desparate the Stinger men are...have a look here;- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=76891 :) Clear Escalation.zip
  3. Yep! Dont misunderstand me, that scenario with the tanks was exactly what would happen irl! John Wayne accent on...."well pilgrim, they blew the bridge, so we'll just mosey on down to yonder river and ford it" John Wayne accent off! The Ai do some "Wow" stuff, but I know how difficult it can be to just use the Mission Editor to design a mission, so goodness knows how they code the AI? My mind boggles! So if the AI occasionally have a senior moment ( one of my AI helo's likes to crash into hangars when taxiiing to park!) well it could happen irl, just like our infamous "failures";) The greatness of a sim ( speaking personally) is for there to be a wow moment every time you fly........BS and A10 are great sims!
  4. :)Like it! The SA13 that enters the valley at exfiltration is a nice touch......thats not what I said the first time, as it fragged the Sandy ##**//:D My wife overheard me and said "your on that "game" again? "This aint no game and dont talk to me untill I get this Sandy home safe":D Again it demonstrates what you can do with the minimum of threats, provided they are intelligently ( and realistically) placed. All I would add, is instead of an Mi-8, use a Hind;) Set to search all targets at any distance up to 8 miles and arm it with whatever you think the single A10 driver can cope with. That way, you must destroy it before it gets the downed pilot and your Sandy, since it will detect them and engage them ruthlessly unless you eliminate it! Its a challenge to arrive at a mission thats realistic yet rewarding to fly. You can definately create something thats just too difficult to fly realistically, which isnt what we all want. I cant help thinking that sometimes I could fly these rescue escorts better in the Black Shark! The opportunity to approach slowly, pop up, mark target, pop up and shoot the Vikhr (Вихрь). This one of yours would be a good port over to BS. You could fly in overwatch of the Sandy and never be more than a few hundred feet from him! ( I did a "Mountain Rescue" mission for the Shark......maybe you have seen it?) Anyway thats BS, this A10 mission is good, and thats my twopenneth ( or two cents worth) Keep em commin:thumbup:
  5. Whilst creating a mission recently, I placed the armoured column's route over a low bridge that crossed a small river. I thought....well thats too easy for anyone to stop the column....blow the bridge! Well, with the bridge blown the tanks (T72's in this case) just left the road and forded the river, which they somehow knew was only axel deep, and continued their advance! I know sometimes we see some dumb AI, but this was my recent wow moment! Those Tankers are competent commanders;) This is much more than a superb flight sim. Its a fine battlefield sim as well:thumbup:
  6. "Following attacks on their helicopter patrols the enemy has determined to remove all opposition in the area. They have warned that should any further attacks on their helicopters take place, they will launch an assault upon your forward air base. Your orders remain unchanged, engage enemy air assets when detected. The enemy will mobilise a small elite mechanised battallion, tasked to capture or eliminate the air base, should it be necessary. There is a small joint forces defense company at the base. When ordered, you must RTB immediately and re-arm with suitable munitions and prosecute a CAS mission. This will be decisive to the airbase defense." This is a rather involved evolution of the "Beer Call" mission. To give choice to the simmer over the timing of events and reactions of the enemy. Not to mention a close run battle for the base! I have attempted to incorporate the following elements that will challenge the solo simmer, in one mission;- 1. Circuit flying- landing with good parameters-tally kept and displayed.(as Beer Call) 2. Flying and fighting in challenging weather. Use of ILS, TACAN. 3. Air to Air combat against battlefield helicopters and other CAS aircraft the A10 is likely to encounter in a hot zone. 4. Rearming with correct munitions loadout, under pressure. (Whilst under attack) 5. Use of JTAC and AWACS. 6. CAS with pressure to defend your base. 7. Choice of when the assault will begin, approaching dusk, dusk or night...depending upon when / if you engage the enemy helo's. 8. Use of Night Vision, if flying at night. I was inspired by that scene in "Private Ryan", where the platoon are entering an occupied village and its raining heavily...Hopefully thats re-created (especially at the start ) , with ED's excellent rain effects..just turn up the surround sound:thumbup: Hope its enjoyable! Here is a short film of one pilots efforts;- Even though I made this, when ever I fly it, it flies differently, with many alternate endings.(one is in the video ;) ) Mission is attached. Happy flying;) Edit; BTW, if anyone wants to "tinker" with the mission, be my guest. If you want a wingman, thats one click in the editor or if you would prefer a totally clear and calm evening, thats a couple of clicks! This would make it easier though:music_whistling:. Thats the beauty of this mission editor feature of the sim;) Dangerous Escalation.miz
  7. You are deployed at a forward air base. For this evenings mission you will practice ILS approaches in the circuit, with touch and goes. The landing officer is conducting a "grading" session (he is ex Navy!) and will grade you and all members of your squadron, who are taking part. You will attempt to group three pefect landings, ie, on glide slope and localizer and touch down less that 300 fpm. You will receive a verbal acknowledgement of your success or otherwise. For every "poor" landing you must achieve a good one, so the tally is equal to or greater than three, you then graduate with a beer! This is a forward air base and enemy Helo's are in the area. The second part of the mission (which may be completed first) is to engage the enemy Helo's, to the west, conducting a coastal patrol. With one hour before dark, your decision will affect your visibility for flying later in the mission, its your call! You may continue to fly circuits into the night if you wish, but by then your squadron will be in the Mess!! You are armed with AIM 9M*4, AGM 64D Mavrick*4 and Rockets. Deploy any of the weapons on board and observe and report their effectiveness. Be aware the enemy Helo's will return fire. There is rumoured to be a Black Shark pilot in the area with something to prove! Merely a rumour of course! The weather for mission "VFR", is wind 055@15k, cloud base 5000', visibility good. The weather for the "IFR" mission is wind 055@15k, cloud base 1000' in heavy rain, visibility poor. There is therefore a crosswind component for take off and landing. You are a qualified Air Force pilot so you will start from the Ramp. Take off and landing is runway 090. Be sure to set HUD "Tapes" for radar altimeter and VVI, during start up. Its approaching Dusk, you have 60 minutes before dark, as the sun descends below the cloud base you will see a "sunset" which will affect your visibility to the west, so be aware when using optics on the Litening! Your entire squadron will join the circuit in pairs, then land. They will not assist you when/if you are engaged! You have AWACS support as "Overlord", if required. Here is a simple video of a pilots effort;- http://youtu.be/57J8TbQrfV0 VFR and IFR missions attached. EDIT. I have applied a "patch" to the missions;- Changelog:- 1. Final flight "Dodge" will no longer intervene with your engagement. They will just fly their circuits and land. 2. Enemy Helo's will remain on their patrol stations for longer. Previously they were bugging out too early. These two changes will give you the choice of when to engage (if at all;)) 3. Improved radio messages. 4. Start improved, you are treated to a Blackhawk and Ah64 pair landing, while you start up! 5. A couple of surprises! On the subject of start up. If you fly the IFR mission, just take a moment to listen to the rain on the cockpit....Well done ED! It makes you want to close that canopy! Good Luck Sir. Beer Call VFR.miz Beer Call IFR.miz
  8. Interesting! I can not see which missile that is. Can you clarify? Whatever it was it doesn't have a proximity fused warhead:music_whistling: On the subject of realism..I got hit the other evening by an SA-11...head on ( I think)....the resulting shock it gave me was enough to make me fall off my chair!! The flash, the explosion the noise, then the pause as your spirit leaves your body...then you are out of your body looking down on the flaming wreak that was once you and your Hog! Then you see the rest of the battle as a spirit of yourself...now thats what I call a simulation and probably as close as you get to the afterlife. Perfectly modelled,
  9. Interesting topic this! Noticed this myself and good way to practice air starts!:smilewink: Any other Jets out there that dont fly inverted? This is reminiscent of the Hurricane and Spitfire in WW2, inverted and in -g, the float in the carburettor would fly up in the float chamber, cut off the fuel to the carb and starve the engine....the Me109 of course had fuel injection so -g and inverted no problem;) Yet our Hog doesn't like -g?:music_whistling:
  10. Hi, just seen this thread. I will refer you to Zamboni, who has a complete set of films, start to finish. Tips, edits and a whole lot more.....here;- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73194&highlight=devils+cross If you are still stuck. Ask again.
  11. Thank you! thats what I needeed!
  12. Is this just me or does the 1.0.0.8 patch mess up the campaign missions? The devils cross mission is now acting weired? The EAC is off and in error all the time? The the AI horizon in the HUD is skewed? 30 degrees off all the time? Then the Target HUD (HUD ACTIVE) will not accept inputs from the direction mouse. Its dead! This works with all the other missions, not the Devils Cross campiagn? Am I going mad or is this just my PC acting stupid? ( or me:cry:?) I have a clean install of 1.0.0.8 , the video of my Mission "Nato Tempus Fugit" shows that it all works ok! Take a look? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=74363 I have flown the entire Devils Cross campaign in 1.0.0.7 and had no issues. Now in 1.0.0.8. its not right? Any ideas? Cheers!
  13. Here is the Film of the mission;- (NATO Tempus Fugit) It will run differently each time due to the random elements. You can try it with combinations of support packages, all, some or none! You are in command so its your call. I hope you guys like it, i attempted to demonstrate how complex a rescue mission could be! Be aware, there are a few shocks, but thats war aint it!;) The version is 1.0.08, so the cockpit shadows are resplendant, nice one ED. (Just eliminate the tree shadows and were done here!) EDIT, you don't need the "Zip" miz to use in V1.0.0.8, it will run in any version! The mission in the Zip merely has more going on and I have tested it in every which way possible! So its the "final" release. Looking forward to 1.0.0.9 although, with the two Campains removed there is scope to develop some for this superb sim? Oh and make videos of course!;)
  14. After a practice refuelling session, looking at the damage and thinking, "How do I explain that to the chief"? It was a big bird strike chiefy, honest!:music_whistling:
  15. Thats an interesting find. Without sounding flippant, Guy Gibson and 617 Dambusters had the same problem. At 60 feet there was a "no mans land" where the water "dissappeared"! They used a couple of spotlamps! In A10c, I always set up the radar altimeter "tape" on the HUD, from the test menu and the altitude limits on the UFC. You can fly as low as you dare then and will always know your altitude. These are great RW aids.;)
  16. Following on from Zamboni's excellent Devils Cross campain videos, I am trying to put together some videos of actual missions/campains from both Black Shark and A10c. Either missions I have compiled or modified, or "in sim" ones. This way, everyone can see and compare their own flight/fight with the video. The aim would be to combine 1st person "pilot" views with "action" views to script a mini movie. I have only modest video skills and program but its a way to showcase how good these sims are, for all to see. EDIT. First attempts with v 1.0.0.8 reveal that the "track" replay is still unreliable. IE, as soon as you switch views on playback the mission does not replay what actually happened. However it does if you leave the "view" set to cockpit.....A film makers challenge? This Black Shark mission can be found here;- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=74841 I have edited the CSAR A10c mission and posted it in the A10 missions thread. There are two variants; Tempus Fugit and a larger scenario that has more support packages "NATO Tempus Fugit". These would be my next attempt at a video. EDIT. Here is the A10c NATO Rescue Mission on You Tube;- BTW, its interesting to fly both A10c and the Black Shark and be up to speed or "current" on both types!;) Takes a large amount of skill and is a testament to ED and these superb combat sims. Happy flying.
  17. Ocheye!;) I have attached some logs, just for info. ( I had a CTD with a "stack overflow", but that may be my Tempus Fugit mission thats overloading the wee system stack! Additionally, this is what W7 had to say;- dcs.exe 1.1.0.84de5047aedTerrain.dll1.1.0.84dbae309c00000fd00000000000ddb6bbf401cc26e50bea0eb6 V:\DCS A-10C\bin\dcs.exe V:\DCS A-10C\bin\edTerrain.dlla976b241-92dc-11e0-a12a-0026182e8c39 Logs.zip
  18. Is it just my eyesight, or has the UFC been re-modelled? The panel looks "flat" and doesn't appear to have the 3d depth of the rest of the cockpit? I am just trying to find out whats changed? Without re installing 1.07, I am almost sure it looked more 3d before? Whatever.... Whilst trying to adjust my "NATO Tempus Fugit" mission ( up on the missions section), so it works with 1.08, I saw that the trees were so afraid of my flights fearsom onslaught of CBU's that they jumped into the sky....(well their shadows did:music_whistling: ) See below attached............
  19. Yes, I am afraid its back with me also! Looking on the bright side........ My CPU runs a lot cooler at the lower voltages. 58c across all 4 cores ( I disable hyperthreading, that just increases temps). The Palit GPU is at 68c now? So thats cooler also.......Still see the cockpit spikes, but not as severe. If the cockpit shadows and external shadows are turned off, I see no cockpit spikes. Its a shame really, the cockpit shadow effect was very nice. I guess it will have to go! The tree shadows "floating" above the trees is getting to the point where I am thinking of reinstalling 1.0.7 and just leaving the patch off! The tree shadow issue was not there before the patch and its a major "glitch" for me. I saw it after just 30 seconds with the new patch and was wondering if it was just my system or did everyone have the issue? If there is a fix I can find I will report back....or if the patch fix comes out............ :book:
  20. Aha, a brother in arms:) Forget the driver for now! I have spent a couple of hours today messin with my overclock. To answer your question, yes! I did see occasional "spikey" glitches when viewing the engines (fan blades from front) in the previous version. The cockpit was fine. The nightmare of deductive debugging loomed....was it the new GPU? Was it my driver? Was it the memory? etc etc..... Now, concerning the o/c. If one core is overheating then the artifacts, glitches, spikes, whatever you want to call them, will display. As far as I can determine, my cooler is fine. As you can see from the core temps. So I have reduced the CPU voltage on my o/c 960, down to 1.31250v. ( goes down in .00625 increments) Previously it was 1.3250. Small I know, but I also reduced PLL, QPI and IOH. The lower voltages = lower temps ( albeit very marginal) down from 61c to 59c across all 4 cores, during flight. The Palit sings along at 70c! It was experimental, however I believe its worked. Result=stable cockpit, no artifacts and the sim is stable and smooth. So as far as I am aware it was the heat produced from the o/c. As I stated previously, this sim uses 1 core for graphics and 1 core for sound. Unlike FSX which will spread the load across all 4 cores and allow you to use affinity masking in the cfg file! So, depending on what system you have, I can only tell you what I have done and what results I have achieved. Now if the "floating tree shadows", the subject of my original post, can be eliminated..............:smilewink:
  21. Just for everyones information. I previously mentioned " Graphics spikes and flickers" in the cockpit. Over the weekend, I did some experimenting with my overclock settings. I found that removing the overclock, ie reverting to 3.20 ( 24 x 133, basic speed for the i7 960 ) has removed the cockpit spikes and flashes. Due to the way A10c is coded, all the graphics are processed on 1 core, the sound is on a second core. That way, I surmise when I run my i7 overclocked, the core the graphics are processed on is overheating and causing the graphics glitches. My resolution is to remove the overclock when flying the A10. I can use all the sim setting on max and still get 20 fps in a busy battle and 30 fps elsewhere, which I find is just about acceptable. ( I have the sim pegged at 30 anyway). Curiously, I can run Black Shark with the overclock on and see no graphics anomalies. Perhaps ( and this is my speculation) A10c, is now pretty much at its maximum graphical capability, given the current way its coded. BTW, I run FSX on a 4.20 overclock and have complete stability. With temps at 63c maximum! Perhaps thats because FSX uses all 4 cores of my i7 and no one core is doing excessive work! These are just my findings and opinions. Of course with everyone on different systems YMMV. ( Your mileage may vary);) Regards.
  22. And this thread adds some extra information:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=74097&page=2 :)
  23. Also, the MFCD with the message, OSB 11, should read "ACK". Press that to remove the warning.
  24. Thanks Guys. Thats good to know. The only other thing I see, is flickering in the cockpit? Like spikes and flashes? I am trying different settings? I will update my Nvidia driver to 275.33 ( just out whql) Really like the cockpit shadows....just getting the spikey anomalies is a real pain in the:cry: EDIT. Without the new driver, ( still on 266.5) turning off the TSSAA (Transparent Anti Aliassing) and reducing the shadows to Medium has nulled out the graphics "spikes" and "flickers" in the cockpit. I have no idea why that should occur? Just for the information of anyone else with a system similar to mine and experiencing the same issue. BTW, now I have the cockpit shadows stable, I must say I am amazed at the effect. Spent an age just turning in a circle on a sunny day just to gawp at the sun and shadow on the panels, awesome:thumbup::clap_2:
  25. After a clean re-install of 1.1.7, I installed the new patch v1.1.0.8. I now see what appear to be floating tree shadows, or even dark splodges in the sky? Photo's attached.
