  1. Once in awhile the map is displayed upside down, both in Single Player and Multiplayer. Is this intentional? When this occurs it is the same whether it is the map on the pilots left knee or the mapped button to bring it up on the right side monitor screen. I like using the kneeboard map. It comes in handy.
  2. I get as far as switching the reticule and setting the bombs and rocket switches and then it just hangs. Is it me? Or is it the tutorial? I attempted the tutorial twice.
  3. I use the kneeboard. On my Fighterstick I use a 4-way hat: up to toggle it on or off; left goes back a page; right goes forward a page; down uses that location triangle that shows where I am and the indicated time. BUT if I go off the kneeboard map, I am screwed. What to do when you lose both compasses to dogfight damage? Has happened to me. I lost just about all my rotary flight instruments on the front dashboard and made it back to land it. The A.I. guy in the off-line one-on-one, P-51 against P-51, is unmerciful. Just a few pings and he does quite a bit of aircraft damage. Using the kneeboard map and the identifier triangle is how I got back to base. One of the kneeboard maps is upside down. Intentional? Also it is possible to zoom in on the in-cockpit pilot's kneeboard, too. Nice thing about playing a map repeatedly is terrain identifiers to remember where you are and where you are going, like uniquely shaped hills or mountain peaks.
  4. Me, too. Is it possible to use just one skin and fly it all the time in all scenarios?
  5. This may be useful, maybe not. See P-51D: http://www.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Aircraft_of_WWII http://members.shaw.ca/soda_p/models.htm Just like here, they have guys that are history and aircraft experts info to that end.
  6. Concerning DCS: P-51D, the 2nd Beta: I set up my TIR5 last night and actually was running at 1 frame rate and no more than 10. It was impossible to use. I was reading the forum here somewhere this morning and the guy said all he could find to find a fair solution was "Set Priority" to "High" in Task Manager's Processes. Also put the check-mark in the "Show processes from all users" to get Administrator's privileges to set it. That fixed it. I did notice my curvature in pitch and roll is now too sluggish and has to be set less. I have TIR5 set to auto update. Whoever that was with the advice---THANK YOU.
  7. Careful with CCLEANER. That sucker is very powerful and can cause damage for the unwary.
  8. Ever drop everything and go inside the router and drop the DMZ and connect direct? Maybe I am just lucky. I killed 3 hard drives starting out. But I fixed it myself. Instead of the expense of college courses, I bought me my 1st Internet ready PC and taught myself in 2004. You bet a lot of mistakes learning. I built the next one. And what this Alienware cost I should have built another one. Well, I can modify it. I will not buy another brand name machine.
  9. When I get stuck, I contact DCS/ED direct to here: http://support.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/ They are busy. Give them a few days to answer. I ran a maintenance department in a little factory, one time, late in my career. If I got stuck on fixing machinery, especially electronics, I would look for components not made by the original manufacturer as to a name or address, model#, etc. I always got good results actually talking to the engineers that designed the components. I'd get voltages or amperage readings to test for, etc. Same with DCS. You also might PM one of the testers or DCS employees, like EtherealN. I think he is a forum moderator. He might miss your posts. PM him. Did you uninstall the 1st Beta? There is a readme file buried in there somewhere as just how to do it. Did you run the DCS World .exe file first that loads the 3 .bin files? I made sure that ran OK. Then I ran the P-51 .exe file. I download either using a http or ftp USA mirror. I do not drop my firewall or antivirus. I would rather play it safe than take a chance infecting my system. The 5 downloads took me about 6 hours each time. Out of my Firefox Download stash I input the files in consecutive order in a My Documents folder. I found no need to rename them. My gaming machine I just use the Windows freebie antivirus and firewall and a couple anti-malware utilities. Norton is a bear. I have it on my other computers at home. You really never turn it off. But it is the best I have used. But not for gaming. My best computer guru buddy is the guy that oversees all the PCs at my local public library. He used to talk the geek language and I said, "Huh?" Over time I actually know the lingo now and we can talk PC stuff for hours. I built a PC 2 years ago from scratch, not from a kit. And I can now ask him questions that even stump him. I have never had any of my PCs to a shop in the 6 years of Internet access or my Commodore 64 or my IBM 386. But I sure get stumped for a few days trying to make logical moves. Google is also very helpful as is all the forums of various subjects. Usually any problem you encounter, somebody else has, too. I am not really that good. There are kids here that are 45 years younger than me that probably know more than I do. When I was in school, the only computer we had was a slide rule. Maybe you can tell me why when I setup my Track IR5 my frame rates are below 10. It runs just fine in the other sim I play.
  10. I mostly come to the forums to learn things in the archive or ask questions for clarification or just because I do not know something.
  11. How to open .rar and .lua files? Freeware? Sorry, posting this here, but don't know which folder would be best to place it.
  12. Well, if you get low enough with the A.I. guy on your tail you just might blind him with the prop's dust storm it creates. LOL!
  13. PM me your Multiplayer password, please. I joined your web page. I read it is password protected last night. I got on late.
  14. I like. Create planes of both sides of the theater of war they were designed to fly with/against. I like F4U and CV ops. Not to worry, there are other WWII sims if they go all jets, which is what your poll is suggesting. I love this P-51. An ongoing scoring system would be nice as to competition. I am sure DCS would not stick their necks out without testing the market to see what the demand for WWII aircraft is. I am sure they have done their homework. :pilotfly:
  15. Yep, that is my only gripe about DCS / LockOn and not very many guys to play with or fight against. The word, "furball" is probably unknown here. LOL! Otherwise, the planes, the sims, the helpful community spirit is aces.
  16. Ever fly Aces High? Depends a lot on how far out your guns' convergence is and arc of the rounds. I flew the "Intercept" mission in Quick-Start for the DCS P-51, 1st Beta. I had no problems lighting her up on the 1st pass, guns set at 600 feet. But the training P-51 solo air to air, the guns seem rather weak. I can't get above or behind the A.I. in the Quick-Start, one on one, even to fire one round. So I go low and he usually arcs into the ground. Funny watching him follow me under the power lines, zig-zagging-S-turns. I know, too, in the other sim I fly, it depends on the map and how it is set up or bugs or glitches unique to that map or pre-programmed scenario. Yeah, give us cannons---Me-109 or FW-190. LOL! Aside: Keesler AFB gunnery range, my Seabee training crew brushing up on the M-60, prior to firing it, we had to remove ever 6th white phosphorous, tracer, round out of our cans of belts. They got PO'd we kept setting their woods on fire. LOL! That was about 1979.
  17. Thanks Air Wolf. I'm setup with your TS. I will try nightly to find you. Best way I've found to kill the quick-start A.I. offline, one on one, is get down to tree level and let him run into things. LOL! I am still working on getting above him. That guy even does rolling scissors.
  18. I know enough of the P-51 I think I could last in a dog fight abot 20 seconds. I would like to see you guys fight with the P-51, I am ready to die a lot. But you are talking FC2. I was on last night to your web-page, but did not see an entry for P-51. It might be there, but I did not see it.
  19. On one or more of the servers I have been kicked just by observing as a "spectator" but on the tarmac in my jet or helicopter not even me powered up, but just clicking F4 to observe other team members. When they die it reads me as if I killed them. I have said it before, I sure would like to see a larger Multiplayer, central server like what Aces High has, and WWII_OnLine, Air Duel, or War Birds did, I am not sure the latter 3 currently even still exist. I am sure there are others MMORPG flight sims. Last night I got on 2 different P-51 servers, unlocked, both, just like that, poof! session over, they were no longer online. On one I was just getting into position to jump somebody having found a fight. I got on late. But your offline game is fun enough. I just go play another sim when I want to dogfight online. What a T1 connection costs in NY State, to have a dedicated 24/7 server individually hosted, is outrageous and the only fair way to absorb the cost is to charge a little fee to players to spread out the cost. To Aces High it is just $15 per month, the game and patches are a free download. I do not like Aces High for a lot of reasons, but there is enough positive reasons to stay there as a member. I know I am just talking to Willie Nelson's "Hello, Wall" . It will most likely never happen here to DCS or LockOn. But please educate me, as to options. I belong to the 104th but I never see their server online to DCS. Maybe they hang out to FC2. I just saw a note they are to HyperLobby. But for sure, most servers have rules, some fairly strict, as the 104th observes, so acting gentlemanly is usually expected and the usual negative stuff is not tolerated very long. The way I run my Yahoo! machine shop group, I allow most anything, but certain negative actions will get people warned, then eventually banned. In almost 10 years of my group, I have banned a fair amount of objectionable people.
  20. I thank them by buying the DVDs when I see them at Best Buy, their product by them, so I have a safer backup, than my online downloads. As long as they can stay profitable and stay away from the stock market and get sold, (WebTV as an example) I think their future is going to be awesome. The Black Shark in FC2 is in 3D on my system and it is pretty good. 3D doesn't seem to function in BS2. I have not tried it on the A-10C, yet. I have the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 wireless glasses kit and a dedicated 3D monitor from Alienware. I am surprised Eagle Dynamics sell their products as cheaply as they do.
  21. My experience flying the DCS aircraft fleet for about a year, now, even using the fire extinguisher(s), my engines always shut down anyways, but I do not explode. I never have tried to relight them, though. I just drop ords and RTB on one engine. Big problem for me like in BS2, I cannot react fast enough before I get to mouse click on the proper button, and I usually bail. Better solution is to map a button. My experience with FC2 is almost zero.
  22. I remember calling home to my wife when I was to Gitmo in 1977 by satellite phone. I think 3 minutes was $6 ! We only had the satellite just for a few minutes when it passed over us. She did not like living on base.
  23. When we had Hurricane Irene here, our phone lines were down just one day, from the felled trees on our block in my little city. I have land-line telephone and my DSL with what used to be Ma Bell forever, until they deregulated and busted it up. But I still have their phone lines, though upgraded some, but not fiberoptic, yet. My cable TV was down 2 weeks! And come August I will switch to cable RoadRunner Turbo which will run about 8 times faster. I usually am up in the wee hours, so everybody else is sleeping and the instability of the Internet demand should not effect me too much. I must say, though, DSL is too slow for gaming, but it is always a steady download speed, unlike cable Internet. But our local cable service guys are a tad slow. My wife wanted me to get a PC and get on the Internet as something to do. I said to her, "What am I going to do with that? The public library is just a few blocks away." I only got the Internet initially to access Delphi's machinist groups. I did not even try online gaming until 5 years later. So my gaming experience is a bit behind the curve compared to you guys. But if the lines go down again, I can always just read a book. I know, what is a book? My Navy basic training was so boring I bought a paperback book to read in the dry room at night and it was the one real warm place in our barracks. Books were not allowed and of course I got caught and reprimanded. I was the only guy in my company that aced the tests, so, yeah, it was boring for me. But even one day off my gaming addictions I get withdrawal symptoms, like cold turkey quitting smoking. I sympathize with you guys...
  24. The guy, username, Crunch , is the best CH .cms programmer I have seen so far, he resides here mostly to LockOn. I use his profile for the Black Shark which works well with versions 1 and 2. Konkussion for the A-10C is also good, he let me use his .map and .cms files. Bob Church, Revin and a guy with Ghost as his username to CH Hanger are also tops. The other sim I fly, there is a script listed to the CH Hangar forums to WEP the throttle when it is firewalled. I borrowed it and incorporated it in the CMS editor. You are better than me at this. I need to spend about a year digesting the CH how-to manual.
