  1. that's good enough, thanks! but just making sure, isn't there a way to edit the presets existing in game? would be a little easier if you want to change settings on the fly
  2. weird, mine always did
  3. those are some valuable arguments, thanks guys. I understand it's value, but I don't think I'l ever bother with trackIR now. I really disagree. the nintendo wii was a huge success, damn, look at pokemon go, people actually got outside to play a video game. I do believe that the main reason VR hasn't exploded yet is price. perhaps 90% price and 10% stuff like the screendoor effect, motion sickness, etc. but the industry really seem to be moving towards more accessible VR. and I hope so, VR is indeed a game changer like many mentioned. I also strongly disagree here 3d movies are (sadly) not dead yet, but just because the industry keeps pushing them onto the audience. they should be dead. again, like they died in the 80's because it's a failed concept. movies are made the same way they were always made, the director films it the most cinematic way, and not the most immersive way. you don't get to "experience" being in the movie just cuz you're seeing it in 3d, directors (almost) never think about the 3d experience, they don't make movies from a person's point of view, most of the time they don't even make it 3d at all, it's just converted later in post, and the result is total crap. for the first 5 minutes it's like you're seeing a cardboard actor in front of another cardboard actor, in front of a cardboard background. for the rest of the movie you just forget there's any intended sense of depth. you just can't forget you're watching 3d because the movie is way darker, you can't see anything on dark areas, colors are terribly unsaturaded, and all other kinds of quirks. some theaters are better, some are worse yes, but even movies in imax are just a marketing scam. I saw this latest avengers movie in the cinema and had to watch again at home when it was released, I didn't see a thing on that part with the dwarf, where it was really dark. I'd really pay double the ticket price to see a movie not in 3d, but the good viewing rooms with all the bells and whistles only exhibit 3d movies here, you have to watch in a small room with bad audio to see a regular movie (in this country at least). sorry that went a little off topic here, got a strong opinion on this subject. my point is, 3d movies are terrible, and they are still around. it's not a fair comparison to VR, totally different worlds, but I really don't think VR is dying anytime soon, and I certainly hope not. there's always be a niche for enthusiasts, but today we buy VR headsets, next day when everyone has them, we'll be buying synced moving platforms for more immersion. just my opinion though :pilotfly:
  4. just the oculus thing then. good out of curiosity, why does steamVR opens automatically when I launch dcs if it's not needed? I might have to reinstall steamvr because of other games
  5. I had vsync, but I restarted the game and now vsync caps me at 60 not 30, which is good. if i turn it off it gets a little higher than 60 sometimes, but for my system it's not worth the out of sync lines, not getting much higher than 60
  6. ok nevermind, I restarted the game and it works now. really weird though
  7. hi, I was just testing dcs on my new nvme, pushing it, and it was fine at 1440p, steady 60fps, but when I set it to 4k, it got capped at 30fps. why is that? ps.: it's not hardware obviously, it's steady at 30fps, doesn't go any lower, but no higher either, something is really limiting it to 30fps.
  8. hey, I just did a clean install of windows on my system and I'm curious, what do I need to install to play DCS non-steam version with the rift? I had the oculus software thing before, and also steamVR, and whenever I opened a game everything started popping up on my screen, so now I'm wondering, what is actually needed to play?
  9. hi, is there a way to overwrite the graphic presets? I usually play VR, but sometimes I'm not in the mood for setting up all the VR stuff, just want a quick play, so I jump into good old tv playing, but I have to manually adjust the graphic settings all over again, and then again when I'm back in VR. is there a way to overwrite the default settings for "high" and "VR" for example?
  10. I always wanted to try TrackIR, but they don't sell it in my country. I tried freetrack with a DIY track clip once, but I ended up breaking a webcam when removing the IR filter, and the tracking with regular not IR leds was bad, so I gave up. some time later I tried facetracknoIR, in fact I tried it many times, followed the developement of the software, even tried to help the guy, and it always sucked so hard. movement was always jittery, always jumping all over the place, the smoothing filters always introduced a lot of lag, basically unuseable (I know some people use it, it just don't work for me, I tried all the settings possible really) then this year I was going to buy a trackIR when I went to the states, but then I thought why not VR? I could use it for work also, so I decided for the oculus rift. and it's great, really immersive, tracking is flawless so far, natural movement, I'm really impressed. but there are some problems, such as screen door effect, motion sickness (I'm really affected by it in VR) and etc. I have a 50 inch 4k tv and DCS looks great on it, so I still wonder how would trackIR feel. I still think VR should be better, I don't really like the fact that you move your head a little and the camera has to move a lot so you can look backwards, but you still have to keep looking to the same place while moving your head. but again, never tested trackIR. what's your opinion on vr vs trackIR?
  11. this is AWESOME!! thanks guys, saved my life. guess now I can breathe a little and save some money before I buy rudder pedals. cheers
  12. not sure about the hornet, but I turn off the map on the a-10c as well, not very readable in my opinion, specially in VR
  13. you mean you're using the wheel for the rudders and not the pedals? well yeah, the single axis must be a problem, but perhaps there's a way around, like some sort of virtual controller?
  14. Hey, I was looking for rudder pedals, but I just spend a ton of money on the thrustmaster warthog, oculus rift, g29 wheel, and some other stuff so I cannot possibly justify another purchase to my girlfriend. I also find all of the rudder pedals absurdly expensive for a 3 axis only controller, regardless of how good/bad they are, so I was thinking, is it possible to use the g29 pedals as rudders?
  15. I had this problem with a lot of acronyms while reading manuals and guides. I suggest people start using the full name of stuff more often
  16. oh it would be soooo nice if oculus sensors could track my hands instead, for pushing buttons in the cockpit it would be the best thing possible next to a physical cockpit with buttons and knobs in the right place
  17. gonna do, thank you sir!
  18. hey, are there any (included hopefully) missions for easy air to air refuel training with the a10c? I remember there was a tanker in a campaign but it would take quite a while to get to it, and it's been a while since I did it. any quick dirty missions for practicing it?
  19. I finally managed to fix it. the helpful people at thrustmaster understood the situation and offered to send me an extra pcb so I could replace it myself, but thankfully it wasn't needed. so the problem is that the pcb of the base of the stick had some pointy solders and they were touching a screw. I trimmed the solder tips and put an electrical tape over the screw and that fixed it. now it works like a charm
  20. Hi, I installed dcs 2.5 and the warthog into my hdd cause my ssd is kinda full. I know there are no excuses not to install it on an ssd, but I did and it sucks and I can't get another ssd right now so the expected happened, huge loading times and in mid flight I get random stutters when I start turning and loading other parts of the map. hdd usage spikes and gpu usage drops at the exact same time. other than that I have solid frame rates, in both VR and TV screen. the loading times I can handle, but the stuttering is infuriating. so is there a way to minimize it while I don't get a new ssd? i tried increasing the preload radius but that didn't help at all. cheers
  21. I'm just curious how do people grab and drop them, it's not the easiest thing to find and pick up the controller in the correct orientation without seeing it and then dropping on a surface you also don't see. It's possible of course, but it doesn't sound very practical to me, specially doing it mid-flight. so I'm just curious about how do people use it. as some mentioned, they just use it for startup procedure, so it makes a little more sense since you drop it and forget about it, but that's why I'm curious on how people are using it
  22. yes, that's what I'd do, but I'm intrigued on how people use the touch controllers. just want to know how, not that I'm going to do it myself
  23. ok so now I'm intrigued. how do you use the touch controllers when you have the oculus in your head, and the joystick and throttle in yoyr hands? I was having a hard time switching from the stick to the mouse without seeing it, cant imagine how would you do with the touch controllers
  24. that's a really detailed response, thank you for that! gonna try this asap. as for the 5 led lights, I was wondering if it's possible to get some sort of interaction from dcs, like idk, display the fuel percentage, or actual flaps position, or something like this, get information from the sim and display it in the physical panel. I know those light's aren't placed greatly but it would be nice if something like this was possible. cheers
  25. Hi, I downloaded the TARGET software thing to try and set the pinky switch to control the throttle panel backlight, all I wanted to do was to use it to set pinky fwd and aft to have backlight on and pinky middle to have it off, but I have no idea how to do so, I thought the software had a graphic interface for people that don't know how to script, but I guess I was wrong. so anyone has any idea on how to do so? also, does anyone use the 5 led lights and the programmable friction axis for anything? I'm playing the A10c and soon will move to the f18 btw. thanks Rafael
