  1. For fast moving images, the higher, the better, trust me on that. As an example, Occulus recommends 90fps. Maybe if your eye is 100% synchronized with a 30 fps image that also displays perfect motion blur you won't see a difference, otherwise, go for FPS :D http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/
  2. Is it doing this with any FBW switch setting (I didn't install the update yet :music_whistling:)?
  3. Depends on which scenarios you refer to. If we consider the most likely scenarios (not considering air battles or fun scenarios whatever), I'd say they could take place in FC3, why not, everything is possible. However the countries that can fight against each other are not doing it because that would degenerate quickly :music_whistling: So, what I mean is that while not technically unrealistic, those scenarios are not likely to happen because of deterrence (nuclear, economic, pick any). Also the capabilities in DCS in terms of IFF, radars, missile performances are different from real world, so it's not possible to decide that if in DCS everything is BVR (or WVR) then it will be the same in the real world. Also rules of engagement are stricter IRL as far as I know (e.g. an IFF non-answer is not enough to declare hostile). What we see now are mostly proxy wars. The only time we'll see a real competition between modern fighters will be when one of those proxies, a well equipped one, will go at war against another well equipped proxy :D In the time being, we have asymetric kills, plus sporadic incidents that are not enough to declare a trend. Edit: about your last question, the winner would be the best equipped one I guess, not only aircraft and missiles but also training, AWACS, intel, it's VERY hard to decide ;). However, if we consider only an F-16 vs SU-27 match-up, I guess a combat within DCS is a good way to decide and have fun trying different ways of winning.
  4. I'd say both wrong, there is almost no air-to-air combat today. Only deterrence and occasional accidents. You can't compare real life to DCS, the scenarios and capabilities are different. P.S.: I might add, do what works best for you within the bounds of what the simulator can offer, and more importantly, have fun
  5. Welcome  In the meantime, here's a fix: click the trigger very fast
  6. There is a button on the bottom right of the PPA that controls this (not yet implemented). This button toggles between limited/unlimited for ground gun, rockets and Super530D http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2641125&postcount=27 The quantity selector is for bombs only.
  7. Ok, good to know, I searched the forum for this but I didn't find it so I posted here. Cheers!
  8. I must be missing something - probably right under my nose  I can only dial those: Y15 Y25 Y35 Y45 Y55 Y65 Y75 Y85 Y95 Y105 Y115 Y125 The left rotary will jump from 1 to 12 without a blank or a 0 to select. Also, I noticed the XY switch is also analog, but it is less noticeable since it will go quickly between X-Y anti clockwise (it wraps around), clockwise X-Y is much slower.
  9. Nevada is payware and the 2.0 alpha will work only if you have it. 1.5 has Caucasus for free, plus 2 aircraft (all of this is already explained in this thread).
  10. The release will be updated anyway, so if you're new I suggest not to bother with the alpha or betas as you may not want to cope with the development versions. You can still download the open beta (1.5.x). You can keep the open alpha on your disk (2.0) as it may be used to download less stuff (the updater will pick files in your open alpha directory instead of downloading, if it can)
  11. Yes. Stick to the release, no alpha or beta.
  12. Thanks  I thought VHF AM was up to 151.something as i read in an A-10C doc, I must have misread (or it's just the Mirage's radio that can't do it). For 2, Let's put the tanker out of the picture and imagine for a minute that it's not an S-3, I'm really talking about dialing a 05Y TACAN inside the Mirage, nothing more.
  13. Hello I noticed some things about the tanker frequencies selection, I don't know if it's bug or not. The tanker was on 150Mhz and TACAN 05Y (it was the wrong type of tanker but this doesn't matter much here I suppose). (1) I tried to dial 150.000 but the radio says 225.00 instead. It looks like up to 143.000 is ok, higher is not. Is it a normal limitation? (2) I tried to dial 05Y on the TACAN panel but there is no 0 on left digit selector, it goes from 1 to 12. So, no TACAN either, another limitation? (3) The TACAN mode switch (A/A, T/R, REC, OFF) seem to be implemented as an analog rotary instead of discrete with 4 positions. Thanks!
  14. If it's not too much to ask, yes  I'm interested to know which technique you used, to see if it's something I can use on my stick (Warthog). You mentioned gimbal joysticks, so I'm not sure it will apply to WH.
  15. It boils down to personal interest I think. Mostly guys are into piloting, from people I met. However, with interest and training anyone can be good. Here's a thing I witnessed: a woman who never flew in her life, with little aeronautical knowledge, managed to land a Boeing 737 more or less cleanly. The instructor was in the seat next to her, giving instructions. In a full flight simulator. But still, that's quite impressive.
  16. Add VKB to this list. Also Flightlink G-Stick on the semi pro side. Also, a joystick that has everything would be so expensive that no one would buy it except a few, this is not profitable. Today the choice is quite good IMO. One thing I'd like is one stick with a truly good feeling in the center (they all give the impression the stick is stuck in a hole), otherwise what we have pretty much fills the bill.
  17. How exactly did you add friction?
  18. 1- RL description of the AIM-120 says it can be launched in pitbull mode (i.e. locked and active) if the distance is short enough, so, yes. How it is modelled is another question I can't answer. However, if you mean that only the missile's radar is used for lock, in theory, yes.
  19. This is the copy protection system. Activations and deactivations (use one to save an activation) are consumed when there is a drastic change of hardware detected. Also, they replenish at the rythm of one per month IIRC. So, unless you're changing your computer every two weeks or do heavy hardware testing, you shouldn't run out of activations. Even if something doesn't go smoothly for whatever reason, you can still ask help to ED's support. Take some time to read the forums, you'll find out that ED or 3rd party are very helpful and responsive.
  20. Don't hesitate to ask for advice, most advanced functions can be achieved in an elegant way, when you know what to use
  21. One remark: you should a different REXEC ID for the rudder trim (it's the same as X's, 0). Looks good to me, good snippets to take example from
  22. For fun, Colomban MC-10? I don't know how racing aircraft would fit in too (Gee Bee R1, AKA "Death Trap").
  23. I usually don't have this issue, contacts sometimes disappear during a sweep but they reappear on next sweep most of the time. Trk or miz would be help if possible.
  24. Even if no one asked for landing tips, this clarification is useful for the initial question  This will help OP understand why his FPM is not doing what he wants whatever the airbrake setting he's using.
  25. I think this is taught or repeated "as is" without explanation (or understanding). I tried to fly using those principles without much success too. Only thing I found that could relate a bit to this proverb is that in approach, adjusting power while keeping the AoA helps to fine fune sink rate. And using attitude helps finding the good AoA (and therefore, speed), however while doing that you need to keep adjusting throttle to maintain sink rate. Therefore both are interconnected, use throttle while maintaining AoA to correct sink rate, and use attitude to correct AoA while maintaining sink rate. That's how it works for me... (edit) but you could very well read it the other way as both work together anyway.
