you have committed fratricide? refueling woes
redfish replied to Maachine's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I don't use any curves on the warthog Y=X, linear in nature. I don't use rudder in AAR. My daughter was piecemeal feeding me a cheeseburger - one bite at a time :) Remember when AAR, that you are receiving several TONNES of fuel in two or three minutes and there will be NO perfect thrust setting that will hold the receiver aircraft tracking perfectly steady with the KC-135. The receiver aircraft's weight (you), will be dynamically changing every second so will the CoG, the aircraft's pitch, roll and thrust will need to be micro managed every second. The key for me is use throttle control and the flight stick - no rudder. Power management : Power off and use inertia of aircraft to slow down due to drag, when I am moving forward too much towards the tanker boom. Power on when I am moving backwards and drag forces are too strong. The key is juggling the throttle to a power setting to make the thrust equal drag (see first line regarding TONNES of fuel). I would practice formation flying with the KC-135, without actually tanking. I practiced in different weather conditions, different lighting conditions, at night, in storms ... you get the picture. Do that for a few days. Get use to the tanker at extremely close distances. Do formation flying with other AI aircraft as well. Make a few practice missions in the ME with other slow moving formation aircraft. Follow them around the map for a few hours at close ranges. With the A-10C engines, there is a noticeable lag time when shifting between power settings - ie between full throttle and half throttle. This lag time is what I found difficult training muscle memory to anticipate the engine lag time and trying to keep the tanker boom and receiver aircraft from colliding with each other. It's been said before by some of the other respondents earlier in the thread that successful AAR, is just practice (that word again!!!!), practice, practice and like any skill, that it is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. What is the deal with "Connection Interrupted" ?

Spasticatedtoad are you in Oz? Do you know when/if you are getting NBN installed? Should be faster when that happens. -

I've found there is an autoban feature with the latest SLMOD version. TK and it will drop connection. -

Same here - Master Server Error : 502 -
Agreed , use NVG and TACAN to navigate to tanker precontact position. When refueling, turn off NVG and use nose light when hooking up to contact position.

I use MAV seeker (SOI) in boresight and just manually slewing to achieve a lock. Using the HUD as a visual reference. Most times I know the seeker has a lock as the seeker reticle in the HUD will often 'jump' or skip to the target when I am maddly pressing TMS UP SHORT. Then its launch and leave. "Rifle! Hello Anyone downloaded DCS:World 1.2.1 yet and investigated these tasks in the ME? - Added "Escort" and "Follow" advanced tasks for aircraft in the Mission Editor.Does this mean I can have an AWACS plane with several fighter escorts or a Tanker with fighter escorts? Dammit 2gb still to download....... Red

Is there a max ping for this event?

Hello I can't meet for the DUTM in Sydney, but will be able to participate in any LAN/network fly in's. The food alone would be worth the flight down hmmmm. http://www.aef-hq.com.au/aef4/showthread.php?41518-DownUnder-Tiger-Meet-Saturday-1st-and-Sunday-2nd-September-2012&highlight=dutm Redfish

Hello Is the Bradley TOW in-game one you fire above the target and an EFP fires downwards for a kill from above? or is the TOW one you aim directly at the vehicle to kill it? Red

Hey guys Just had a quick question to the guys/girls(?) who did the beta/game testing prior to today's release, do you have any hints or tips on what NOT to do as a combined arms JTAC or commander? Oh gosh, I just had an idea. What would CA be like to be the convoy leader in deephouse's mission 'FOB Vetka' this is gonna be great!!! Imagine a real live JTAC in the partol, controlling 3 or 4 A-10's left and right of the convoy, at the same time. YES!!!!! I am just gonna have to plan some more CAS missions. Starting missoin planning right now. Redfish

Quick question regarding a units ROE and STATE tags in the mission editor. Does ROE have a higher priority than STATE? Does ROE override a units STATE?

Still have to disagree. My point of view is still the same, I will have options to deal with a SAM ambush. I am still going to know there is a SAM site somewhere just using the SADL network. An example - Aircraft A (A-10c) flies along it's flightplan - Aircraft A successfully navi-guesses their way along waypoint's A, B, C, D and E. Something happens to aircraft A between waypoint's E and waypoint F. Now using my years and years of expert knowledge as a part-time armchair general, I will be able to deduce something has happened at a certain lat/lon location to aircraft A. I will have options to deal with the possible SAM location. What are the engagement ranges of SAM systems being used by enemy, draw radius around the last known SADL location, Are the SAM sites hidden and are there features in the F10 terrain map that stand out as hiding spots? Are the sam's in the open? Maybe send a sneaky ground recon team to the suspected location. Or is it possible to avoid the location all together? Anyway point is moot, agree with some of your musings, disagree with others. Lots of options to choose and in a semi - dynamic war, this will be very very interesting and I just hope it is stable and doesn't crash. I don't think there are fake transponders in the SIM, it would be a very good idea however. Redfish

Everything looks better at night :) maybe next week huh.....

You do know that you could only do this ambush once. If the other flyers know where the trap is located, all you have done is identify yourself as a set of target coordinates. The next SEAD mission or artillery fire mission will be assigned to your coordinates. Or a recon team is enroute to your last AO to lase or adjust artillery fire on your position. I do agree with general talk of needs player numbers, what is the ideal minimum players in a combined arms match? 20 people? 10 red team? 10 blue team?
