1. If you go into the controls section of the option menu and select the axises for the Ka-50, you can click on one particular axis (i.e. JOYX) and then click the Axis Tune button. Here you can adjust parameters for an axis. But to expound on Wichid's post, trimmed for parking does not equal trimmed for hover. The Ka-50 has a different attitude when hovering than it does when parked on the ground. If you're trimmed for a hover and you put her on the ground without retrimming, she'll roll forward. If you're trimmed for park and you take off with the stick centered, she'll fly back.
2. Google "TSMO-Dash-10-(TM-1-1520-Mi-17-10,-Apr-07).pdf"
3. Google "TSMO-Dash-10-(TM-1-1520-Mi-17-10,-Apr-07).pdf" and check that document out.
4. It is a 6dof cockpit like the P-51, but I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you saying you need to zoom out a bit? You can either map an axis to "zoom" in the Ka-50 controls, or you can use the numpad / and *. If you have the 3 screens (Main, shkval and ABRIS), you can either get another monitor or switch to a single screen layout. Both of those displays are actually located in the cockpit, so unless you have a second display, they probably aren't worth the room they take up on a single monitor.
5. I originally tried both 7zip and windows explorer. These gave me the black cockpit problem. I then tried winrar, and it fixed it.
6. No, I have yet to see my pilot slumped over and my copilot have to assume his duties. I don't have the UH-1H, but this can happen in the Huey, right?
7. Oh, the engines don't mind flips at all. They'll gladly keep those rotors spinning through flips, rolls, and buzzing your commander's back porch. It's the chopping the blades off and sending the rotor RPM through the roof that the poor engines don't like =P
8. Yeah, I should have written down my BS1 key. The difficulty I'm having right now is locating the starforce stuff on the old drive. I wish it wasn't such a complete pain in the ass to use software that I've paid for multiple times. I know it's all been said before, but having to deal with the shitty DRM is the last thing I need after a complete corruption of my system drive.
9. Let me preface this thread with the following statement: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT SOFTWARE PIRACY!!! There. With that out of the way, let me begin: My windows 7 installation finally bit the dust yesterday. Couldn't repair, couldn't re-upgrade to windows 7. I had to reinstall from scratch. Most everything is backed up, but because I didn't restore my registry (because I fear it'll kill windows again), DCS doesn't think my modules are activated. I can burn an activation on them, but I'd rather not, and my BS1 DVD is in storage a hundred-some miles away. Is there any way to copy the relevant information from my backup of my previous install so that DCS is activated again? Does anyone know the relevant keys? Thanks much, folks =)
10. I have a dumb question: what about priming cools the engine?
11. No prob. As I said, let me know if you need help with it =)
12. Thanks for clarifying that. That's just...crazy?
13. Oh, so they literally have to fly with the skins installed as well? I can't imagine how that makes any sense, but I suppose a bug's a bug. On a related note, anyone have the P-51D Moonbeam skin? I can't find that stinker anywhere.
14. Boy, folks 'round these parts get mighty highfalutin with their controller settings. Seriously, it's personal preference. If your stick requires deadzone, use it. If you can control the aircraft better with an S-curve, use it. Don't try to make everyone else be like you, because
they're not!
This post still gets me every time =D As a Ka-50 pilot who's sunk ships with Kh-25MLs and killed a MiG-29 with Vikhrs, I beg to differ =P 83% ;-)
15. As lxsapper put it, you'll never hit 100% accuracy in a flight sim. There are systems in the Ka-50 that aren't modeled. The same holds true for every other DCS aircraft, whether it's the ECM, IFF, dome light (I'm looking at you, Hip), maintenance bay light, or external temp gauge. We can hope that, with time, more of them will be modeled (like that beautiful external temp gauge), but even then, the game will never completely simulate actual flight. That being said, the Ka-50 is completely awesome and is well worth the purchase and learning curve =)
16. DCS Enhanced Terrain Low'N'Slow is a version of DTAC tweaked for rotary. There's also plain old DTAC if you'd prefer. As for your second question, I find Devrim's upgrade of Ricardo's pit to be amazing. I fly with it.
17. Yeah, I have the skins installed that they use on the VA server. When I test their mission in SP, I can see all the P-51D skins. But when I fly online, I can only see the skin on my aircraft; everyone else has default skins.
18. I already have the other skins installed, and they look just fine when I fly the skinned aircraft. It's when others fly them that I don't see anything. Is there something else I'm missing?
19. Title says it all. In the Virtual Aerobatics server, I can only see the P-51D skins on my aircraft, not other clients. Is there something I'm missing or is this a bug? Or something else?
20. I just ran a test mission where I attack an SA-11 site (one command vehicle, 3 launchers, 1 search radar) in a Su-25T with full SEAD loadout (ARMs and ELINT) starting due south 60km at 7000m ASL (test conducted on the shore), 700kmh, full throttle. Three tests were run: Average skill on all SAMs, average skill on all SAMs with ECM pods activated at mission start, and excellent skill on all SAMs. In all 3 tests, the timeline is identical. 1:03 - Search radar active 1:06 - Fire on search radar from 58km, 7003m 1:19 - Kh-58 reacheds peak altitude at 8628m and begins diving towards the target (interestingly enough, although the rocket is still firing, the missile decelerates as soon as it starts descending. Increasing barometric pressure?) 1:48 - Launchers activate and turn towards target, which is now at 49km, 7004m, ~713kmh 1:54 - Hard lock by launcher(s?) 2:23 - Search radar destroyed (1:17 flight time by ARM) 3:36 - SAM launch, 28km, 7004m, 726kmh 3:39 - Second SAM launch Once the missiles were in the air, I played around with evading them. Nothing interesting there. Result: The odd thing is that the skill level changed nothing here. I did this because I wanted to see if the SR would turn off to spoof the missile, but no luck there. I still don't know why I've been getting exploding ARMs in multiplayer on the 51st. Perhaps something else is at work here. Thoughts?
21. Sure, here's mine: Mi-8 TM Warthog.zip Joystick: Trigger stage 2 - Release weapons Pickle - Trimmer Pinky and Master Mode switches - unassigned Paddle - Autopilot Cutoff Hat - Autopilot pitch and role adjustment (just like a fixed wing) TMS - unassigned DMS Up - GUV mode 800 (It's that important 4-way switch used to select gun pods) DMS Down - Guv mode off DMS Left - Guv mode 800/624 DMS Right - Guv mode 622 CMS Up - UV-26 Start dispensing CMS Down - UV-26 select both sides CMS Left and Right - UV-26 select left or right (respectively) CMS press - unassigned Throttle: Left throttle - Corrector (aka the twist-grip throttle) Right throttle - Collective Friction slider - Zoom view Slew controls and slew click - unmapped Left and Right throttles to idle (i.e. engine start in the A-10C) - unmapped Coolie hat - Autopilot altitude and heading adjust Left throttle button - unassigned Pinky switch - Left landing light (aft = stow, middle = off, fore = on) Mic switch - unassigned Speedbrake switch - unassigned Boat switch - Rocket series 8-16-4 (adjusts how many rockets you fire in a burst) China hat - Left landing light slew (aft = down, fore = up) Left and Right ENG OPER switches - Left and right throttles up/down (note: NOT a 3-way switch because the throttles aren't clickable and I haven't figured out a way to deal with that) APU switch - RS/GUV selector (used to arm weapons) L/G WRN Silence - PUS arming (also used to arm weapons) EAC - Master arm RDR ALTM - Coincidentally, this is actually mapped to the radar altimeter! It was an accident, too; I just realized that they match up right now =) Autopilot engage/disengage - Autopilot roll/pitch channel on LASTE PATH/ALT/HDG/ALT switch (3-way next to autopilot button) - Rocket pilons 1-2-5-6/Auto/3-4 switch (3-way which selects which pilons you're launching from) It's only a start. The primitive documentation and limited mapping abilities have proven a hindrance thus far. This thread provides some information for customizing things further. If you need any additional help, let me know =)
22. You're moving the control zone (aka the laser) so that the missile is no longer in it. See this thread for an explanation of beam riding. Pictured #3 in there addresses your specific question.
23. Unsure. Ever time I've jettisoned pods, they've all gone. Is your 1-2-5-6/all/3-4 switch set to something other than all?
24. After the incredible success of the first Mi-8 sale, the devs have decided to offer a second sale in the hopes of drawing in even more users! New sale prace is $0, hence the lack of the dollar sign. I'm holding out for the sale where they pay you to fly it =P
25. I saw a documentary with an American pilot (who got a ride or two in a Frog) talking about the aircraft's ability to go supersonic. It is possible in-game, but the Mach tuck necessitates a pretty significant altitude to do it. If you start off at 10,000m, you should be able to break Mach 1 and then decelerate before impacting the ground =)
