  1. Huh. I guess I thought it always looked at the Shkval. Oh well, seems like a great way to pre-enter datalink points, then.
  2. Well Folks, thanks for confirming it. The problem, like many others in life, is only in my head =)
  3. No, he's saying that the GAU-8 represents a relatively small portion of the front of the aircraft, yet seemingly gets damaged almost every time he takes AAA to the front of his aircraft. Additionally, it sounds as though other systems that are up front (e.g. avionics) do not take damage at nearly the rate of the GAU-8. Same issue for me, BTW. The gun always seems to be the first thing to go when I take fire.
  4. While trying to mark datalink points with a target point selected in the PVI, all the datalink points get the PVI TP's coordinates instead of the coordinates where the Shkval is actually pointing. Anyone else having this issue?
  5. To clarify, the light on the external model turns off, but the actual beam of light on the ground shows the retracting animation. The external model behaves as expected, but the beam of light on the ground behaves in an observably wackadoo manner.
  6. Is this meant to be used on top of the DTAC Ground Hi Res mod, or instead of?
  7. It is a slewable spotlight. It only retracts when you switch it to "retract", though. It's a 3-way switch, with up = on, middle = off, down = retract. When you switch it from on to off, if you look at the external view, you'll see it just shuts off without retracting.
  8. First off, I recognize that I'm not a good Mustang pilot. That being said, I cannot put this stupid thing on the ground without it bouncing like flubber. Did something change recently, or are my skills just degrading from lack of practice? This thing is infuriating me =/
  9. The title says it all. When you turn the landing light to the off position, the light on the ground looks as though the landing light is retracting while still turned on. This may be the case in FC3 aircraft, but it doesn't look right in the Ka-50.
  10. Here's an explanation via diagrams of how the beam riding works. No, you shouldn't have to put the opposite reticle on the target. That reticle is for the next Vihkr; the Shkval should keep the laser on target as long as it's locked. That being said, if you move too much one way or another, you can pull the beam right off the missile's flight path. Try to stay in a stable, wings-level, gentle dice towards the target. Disclaimer: I haven't flown the 25T in 1.2.6.
  11. Yup. Turn on the power, wait 3 minutes for the INU to align (otherwise your HSI goes crazy-pants), hang the pointy things on the wings while you're waiting, then start her up, taxi and takeoff.
  12. Thank you SO MUCH for the setup utility!
  13. Okay, I just snagged myself a free-on-craigslist 1280x1024 LCD and I've got my two MFDs taped to it. This rocks! On a side note, what do people use to attach their Cougar MFDs to their monitors?
  14. Anyone seen the new Riddick movie yet? If so, did his throttle look familiar in the last scene? If not, look at his throttle in the last seen. I'm reasonably sure I caught a glimpse of:
  15. It fixed my multiplayer crash-on-fly. Thanks =)
  16. Fix works for me. Thanks so much for figuring it out!
  17. Okay, a moment now that my heart rate is down. It appears that copying from my old backup is working. I'll know for sure in a few minutes. Xpto: Yes, I realize it's a public beta. My angst is more due to the fact that I've got a buddy who likes planes but hasn't tried flight sims come over in a half hour to check out DCS, and I foolishly assumed that the update wouldn't pork basic functionality. Lesson learned, and I'll be more careful next time. That being said, I can't fly very effectively without head tracking, so I can't wait for it to get fixed.
  18. Restoring my "DCS World" folder from my fortuitously-timed backup 2 days ago. Can't wait to see all these great new features when the headtracking (read: the second-most important controller after the stick) gets fixed.
  19. Same issue. Edit: Rolling back the entire 1GB install. Why did I let it update the one time I'm having a friend over to show them DCS? Seriously, **** things like this. I can't even begin to express how incredibly frustrating this is. It's doubly frustrating that it has to download over a gig of stuff to fix it, all while the servers are dealing with everyone upgrading to 1.2.6. Is there a simple way to back up your current version before updating? Maybe just clone the directory?
  20. I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone that, if you're facing a column of tanks, re-enacting Arc Light with 32 FAB-100 bombs on MERs is a) incredibly effective and b) perhaps the most gratifying thing that you can ever do on a computer.
  21. Using this tool, it appears that port 10308 is open when hosting a mission. I'll try the 1024 next time I have a buddy on who can test it.
  22. Yeah, the flight manual says to aim for a touchdown speed of no more than 80kmh. Edit: Headspace: differential braking on the ka-50? I thought it was just the one handbrake for the main gear...
  23. Lausbub: As cool as those sound, they are way beyond my meager means. On the positive side, I just snagged a pair of Saitek pro-combat pedals on ebay! Now on to the MFDs. They show up as directx controllers with buttons, right? Do they show up identically to the computer? Can I avoid target?
