I still have my Falcon 4.0 CD and manual. It came in a three ring binder and was a priceless tool for learning how to fly. As I'd fly I'd read the manual. The F-16 has a full AP system so I would do CAPs and read along the way. LOVED IT!!!!!

Hey Kontiuka, I live in Ottawa. Let's fly!!!!

A question for Wags and or ED about the DCS: F/A-18C!
Akula replied to Spudknocker's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
HERE HERE!!! WE WANT THE F-16!!!! :pilotfly: -
Pulled the trigger as soon as it was available. I don't mind waiting :)

I'm kinda in the same dilemma. My question is; assuming you have it set to FEED where the external tanks are used before the internal tanks, why don't both counters below the gauge lower as the external wing tanks are depleted? Makes sense to me or maybe I'm backwards on this.

Hello all, Just wondering if anyone can post a step by step UP TO DATE skins tutorial for the jets. Everything I'm googling is from 2013 and older and even then it's dead links or deleted posts. Cheers ;)

Thank you all for the replies, WD, I read your post and it is helpful *for someone with 2 screens*... therein lies the challenge. With 2 screens its easy but a tutorial should be made and written up based on the assuption that the reader is a complete novice and has a basic setup (i.e. basic flight stick nothing fancy, one monitor and a rig that can handle the game). Admitteldly I don't have a lot of patience but like many I do maintain interest when the learning curve is constantly on the rise and progress is made. Back in the day, I was well qualified on Falcon 4.0 I had bought the original game which came with a huge binder explaining everything from the start up procedure to advance combat maneuvers and refuelling. The manual approached the reader on the assumption that he/she knows nothing about flying and walks the novice through every step of the sim referring to keyboard commands. Eventually I got a flight stick and mapped the KB commands to it making the trnsition much less complicated and frustrating. This is very difficult to do in FC3. KB commands for every single task can only be obtained through the crappy video tutorial from way back in 2005. Because you constantly have to go back and forth switching from the tutorial to a mission to try it all out you can see how discouraging it is for the novice. This is why I'm saying there should be a strong reference to procedures all tied to keyboard commands for the sole purpose of training raw pilots. It would be great to have the start up procedure that goes something like this: F-15 startup: Insert key in ignition--- Shift K Turn key to ACC---- Ctrl C Turn Key to begin ignition sequence--- Shift T etc etc Of course that's not the way it goes, just giving an example but like this there is no sifting through paragraphs of info just to find out the important stuff, just straight and simple. Going back to what WD said, it's fun for me to learn the nitty gritty first and then learn how to do it all properly. At least this gets me learning all the procedures quicker than watching countless vids and sifting through a labrynth of online tutorials. I remember a few years ago, someone was offering a fully printed version of the manual in a binder. Man I wish I bought it. Would have really helped. I guess a local print shop would be the next best thing. I haven't seen the link provided in the previous post (at work and behind a firewall) but I'll check it out when I get home. Cheers all :)

Hey guys, I've been out of flaming cliffs for quite some time and every time I try to get back in I'm discouraged by the time it takes to learn the entire setup process not to mention having to sift through the labrynth of very useful posts made by the flight sim gurus we have here. coming from a noobs perspective if I want to know how to do something like take off, do a loop and land just for circuit training everyone is more that helpful to point me in the right direction but that direction usually leads to more questions as most of the info says things like; "set your trim to this" or "you'll want to engage ICS". But no one explains how. Now admittedly I'm looking for shortcuts but really who isn't? Sitting through training vid after training vid is not just tedious but confusing as you have to retain all that info. I'm now 44 and can't do that as well as I used to lol. im hoping that everyone would be open to a section that explains how to do everything from the basics to the intermediate level explaining not just what to do but HOW to do it via simple key board commands as opposed to those who say how they have their HOTAS set up and such. I have an old X-52 but for beginner training I very much prefer to learn all the keyboard commands first so that when the time comes and as I get better I can eventually assign the commands I I want to the X-52 as opposed to being thrown the the wolves having to learn it all from seasoned pilots who mean well but tend to throw a lot of info at the novice flyer. I'm wondering if someone would like to collaborate with me to help set up such a section.

Are we talking about the same Mustang that used to be in the I.C.E. Squadron???? That old bag of bones? ;)

The Aim-54's flight envelope is so bad due to its energy that a simple break into the missile and chaf/flare dump will usually confuse it. The trick is to keep it on your 3 or 9 and know when to break and dump. Locsta's F-pole manoever explains it very clearly. YouTube it. It's out there.

Funny guys, I'm resurrecting this thread because last I heard or saw of him, he had gone to Russia and paid to fly the Mig-29.... From what I recall, the Mig pilot was crazy impressed and surprised that he knew where all the controls were and what to do with them. I'm pretty sure he gave him a lot of control over the jet once he knew how qualified LOC was... I still consider him to be the greatest marketing asset this simulator has ever had. SO WHERE ARE YOU bSr.LOCsta????? :)

About to buy a new GTX, but not sure what to buy
Akula replied to Devrim's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm running 2 GTX 980's which is overkill but at least I can finally max all the settings without so much as a hiccup. :) -

Sorry about that Sobek, It's not intentional at all but I'd say it is warranted. I'm sure I speak for a few of us when I say that they totally deserve it for accepting donations after making all these extravagant promises. What truly surprises me is that they have never really been exposed for it. I don't think that what we said were bashing in anyway but more a stating of facts and opinions. In my opinion they are frauds and I feel extremely sorry for those that made a monetary investment and defended them to no end. Like many others here, I was on their forums when they first emerged with words of positivity and confidence praising them for taking on such a huge challenge and wishing them the best of luck. A year or two later (can't remember because it's been so long) I made a thread saying something like "So two years have passed and all you have to show for it is some poorly made videos and some pictures? Really?" I agree it wasn't the most positive thing to say but instead of offering an explanation or apology or a more tactful way of dealing with a well deserved statement, they deleted the thread and threatened to ban me from their forum if I ever posted something like that again. That was the last time I ever visited their site... Until today. I was interested in seeing just how far they've come and WOW, still no change. If anything it has gotten even worse. They had a huge server crash awhile back which destroyed most of their site content including the work they've done to date. They *claim* that they have all the files backed up and that is definitely believable but they have yet to relaunch the site which SHOULD be easy enough if you've backed it up. All they have right now is some content here and there and a puny little forum that is repopulating soooooo yeah, they're not doing too well lol. Anyways, we have ED which I'd say makes stuff that is worth every penny IMHO. Keep it up ED, you guys rock!!!!

Hey guys, Just wondering where the FC3 forum went to. Did I miss something? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I just saw the "there is always fighter OPS" quote and I have to say what a sad POS that is. People have donated and donated and donated. The group generated so much hype among the flight sim community when they first started that nearly 10 years later all they have is some lame videos and some desktop wall paper lol. What a crock of shit that is. To add to it, the instant someone posts something like "when will it come out?" Or anything the least bit critical, they get all pissy and angry. They don't need a distributor or a marketing team lol, they just need to stop entirely and apologize to everyone for offering any type of hope that they would be the "ultimate flight sim". Give me a break. Sorry, went off on a tangent there ;)

I honestly don't know who decided that a development company needs a distributor to begin with. This strips the devs of any power with regards to quality control and shift that power to an entity that is more concerned with making a huge profit over a competitor. Hell, a small competent marketing team within the development company can figure all this stuff out ESPECIALLY in this age of downloadable content. A distributor may have been needed back in the day when millions and millions of CDs needed to be made to get the game into the hands of eager consumers but that method of distribution is slowly falling by the wayside. DICE does not need EA, not anymore and definitely not after the shit that EA has pulled.

How to detect and counter an incoming IR SAM?
Akula replied to Hoggorm's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yup, so make sure you wear a bra when flying ;) -
Very true. Let's hope ED does not lose it's vision and continues on their own path with their own interests. I just don't get why todays companies don't have the "give them what they want and they will buy" philosophy. Instead, they have the "get them addicted and then drain their wallet" mindset.
-
Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. The concern here is that money talks and changes everything. Throw enough money at someone and they will sell. Something EA and Activision have done to acquire rival companies and monopolize the industry. It happened to DICE and I just don't want to see it happen to ED.
-
PLEASE NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN. 'Never let what happen?' You ask. Never sell out to an American software publisher like EA or Activision, or any of them for that matter. I have been a long time fan of the battlefield series and it *was* a great game until EA (electronic arts) acquired Battlefield' development company DICE. Since that time the battlefield series has really gone downhill. On the surface, BF3 and BF4 look amazing, immersive and incredibly fun but once you get into the game you find it is riddled with problems. Weapons, classes and vehicles are not balanced, hackers are not dealt with as per the EULA and coding glitches coupled with server glitches are not addressed in a timely manner. You can almost hear the screams from the fan forums demanding that the game be fixed and yet the progress is slow and the attitude from EA is pretty much "we'll get to it when we're good and ready". Please don't ever sell out to these American companies. They are greedy, blood sucking vultures who will butcher and kill your company should you ever get in bed with them. I am not against capitalism or free enterprise but I hate exploitation and this is what EA does quite arrogantly. Please don't make the same mistake that DICE did.

How do I insert a flyable aircraft into my mission editor
Akula replied to flyer49's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
For non-AI groups, you have two selections: - Client. If you wish the aircraft to be flown by a human in a multiplayer game, set it as Client. Do not set aircraft to Player in a multiplayer game. - Player. Set the aircraft to Player when you want it to be flown by a human player in a single-player mission/campaign. -
Landing ANY plane is just a matter of practice and feel. You need to be slightly below glide slope so you can play with the throttle to stay on slope. the flight path marker is a HUGE advantage so use it! When on final, your AOA should be about 10-15 degrees while the FPM should be on the numbers until you're about to land then power up and place the FPM at the end of the runway. Then cut power and touch down.... It's more of a feel thing than it is a "follow other people's instructions" thing. If I were you I'd do 10-15 touch and go's to get it right.. It won't take long and by the end of it you'll have it down solid.
