I'll start with two important points -I was stationed on several carriers and did a few combat deployments, however- -I am no expert With that being said I have never seen a US combat aircraft flying outside the US without the means to defend itself. Even if it was only carrying one or two sidewinders or AMRAAMS. For instance while outside the US an F-16 or F-18 would always carry something. Perhaps A-10's would fly with supporting aircraft instead, but that seems unlikely on a ferry mission. Who knows, could be totally wrong, see disclaimer 2. Of course if the destination is potentially hostile, I would figure for sure they would be loaded.

"copy" trigger between mission files
WildFire replied to chromium's topic in User Created Missions General
Im surprised no one has answered this yet. Its pretty easy. No. You cant transfer data from one mission to the next. You can copy triggers from one mission to another if you unzip the mission file and do some copy paste magic but its virtually useless as each mission still wont know which groups are supposed to be dead and which are still alive. Oh and its a pain in the butt to copy/paste in the mission files once youve unzipped them. As far as I know Speed was working on a way to transfer data from mission to mission using one of the lua environments, but I fear that may be a far-fetched goal and ultimately too difficult to implement. Or maybe it was passing flag values. If you can pass flag values from mission to mission it would be possible but you would have to program each flag to go active based off scenarios youve written using triggers and activated before the mission ends. Keep in mind this is completely hypothetical and I have no idea what Speed is actually working on, so maybe hell show up and give us the scoop. But as far as it stands now, and for the forseeable future the answer is no. -
Played a MP mission with four people and we had engine shutdowns on the ground. We figured it was due to the cold weather. Keep your engine above idle on the ground and keep your APU running just in case. Keep the APU gen running so you dont lose your alignment. Shutdown the APU once airborne.

Thunderstorm with Dynamic Weather system
WildFire replied to STP Dragon's topic in User Created Missions General
If you read my second post you would see no one can tell you how to create the weather you want, you have to play with it. You have to get high pressure and low pressure cells next to each other so they clash. High pressure hits low pressure and clouds form. Get the pressure changes correct and you'll get storm conditions. I think my border patrol mission has dynamic weather with some fog, if you take a look at that you'll see the major pressure changes. Otherwise your on your own. -
Bet you everything will work itself out if you reinstall the whole game. I did a patch once and I got a strange completely random problem that I never would have guessed was related to the patch. But anytime you overwrite existing code it is bound to happen. GGTharos pretty much ordered me to keep reinstalling, 3 times all in all. And he was right. Uninstall and reinstall, the mods really should stress it more. If your seeing problems immediately after the patch, reinstall. Go ahead and figure they didnt release a brand new update with ridiculous bugs in plain sight. These guys test the crap out of this game before it gets released so you can be assured of that. I tried to patch this time just to see and sure enough I ended up completely reinstalling a few hours later. Its a no brainer at this point. Its not anyones fault, it just happens overwriting code. I think it has something to do with processors going a lot faster than hard drives and the hard drive missing a few ones and zeros, but thats just a simple logical totally unfounded guess....

Thunderstorm with Dynamic Weather system
WildFire replied to STP Dragon's topic in User Created Missions General
Oh, and because you cant physically put cells where you want them its pretty impossible for someone to tell you how to create exactly what you want, like lightning. That is the primary reason the main dynamic weather thread is so short and lacking, it really is a figure it out for yourself deal. -
Thunderstorm with Dynamic Weather system
WildFire replied to STP Dragon's topic in User Created Missions General
create a cyclone/anti-cyclone with 6 fronts or whatever. Keep generating them til you get a good mix of the fronts or circles pretty tightly around the area you are creating the mission. Leave these the same. Then just keep messing with the pressure settings. Positive and Negative value are pretty obvious, what you need to figure out is which cell your changing and what pressure will it clash with the cell next to it. Its difficult and there is going to be a whole lot of trial and error. I would suggest writing down the values and changing 1-2 cells at a time by values of +/- 500. Everyone of my missions has dynamic weather because I love it but each one is different and for lack of a better term, a crapshoot. Although once you figure it out you'll be able to create good weather in an hour or so if your quick. The only problems are with clashing fronts the pressure changes will be extreme and hence the wind becomes a serious problem. Therefore I suggest making the default loadouts use only guided munitions. Anything else is a complete waste. Unfortunately most people wont figure this out til theyve flown the mission and so thats a small problem, warnings in the briefing about expected high winds could help here. Also because of the pressure changes the altimeter setting ATC gives is probably going to be higher or lower than you can possibly set it. A problem to some who actually do that on the ground. Also I left out temperature and season settings, albeit they are extremely important. Your going to get much better results sticking with fall or spring and temperature of course is going to change your chance of cold weather with rain/snow. I have one mission that is completely overcast with decent snow at night, it is a crazy tough mission, and I love the weather, everyone that tested it said it was awesome until we tried to drop mk-84's on a command center and 8 bombs later the thing was still standing.... So its very discretionary, how hard do you really want to make the mission? Simply because of the high winds I would advise sticking with standard weather if at all possible but Im sure you can get crazy weather with low winds, I just havent played with it enough to get it there. Good luck- -
Could have just said yes..... So let me get this strait(unintended pun), were not gonna take our ships through cause a EU said we couldnt? Haha, like our navy doesnt go wherever the heck it wants...
-
I dont think a carrier can get into the black sea. Was thinking about that the other day when I was building a mission, I really wanted to put a carrier in there... lol.
-
Well in the military sometimes you dont have that choice. Its not unheard of to be given an order that may harm civilians. In that situation you are advised to inform command there will be casualties. If command still orders the strike your SOL. But in that situation when it comes to blame the area commander takes the responsibility. If the pilot did everything in his power to prevent loss of life then he cannot be held accountable. He is only following his training.

Can someone give me real payloads.
WildFire replied to Jona33's topic in User Created Missions General
When he turns you can see a Jammer. I didnt see the Mavs, but I did see at least one GBU-12 and the AIMS, TGP. -
Yeah they always had us cutting corners in our shop trying to get cheaper parts and fix stuff without ordering new expensive parts, the theory we always had was everyone in the military scrimps so the SOF and aviation forces have an unlimited budget. No fact behind that just always what we assumed, I did see a lot of very expensive ordinance go off the deck that never came back, hardly ever did our 18's or 14's use dumb bombs. In fact thinking back now the only dumb bombs I can remember seeing was **EDIT** rockeyes(rockeyes are dumb right?), and Mk-84s and they hardly ever let those go in combat. From what I have seen though that is definitely true, is cost is not an issue. The military and the politicians right off war costs on the backs of taxpayer debt. We'll be paying for Afghanistan for 30 years after its finally over. So yeah they have a blank check. The only good that comes from the cost of using a lot guided, or GPS munitions is that the collateral damage is low, so that pretty much justifies the cost across the board. So really as its been said above, they use whatever is loaded on the plane and whatever gets the job done with the least amount of civilians dead in the newspapers. And in the case of the USAF you can assume your command has assured youll have some pretty nice bombs loaded at all times.
-
Im gonna second speeds thinking. Also point in fact is that if the US were supporting Georgia AGAINST Russia, we would never station our planes there or if so only in the very furthest South bases. The border is just too close. In the event of a scramble Russian fighters would have penetrated far enough into Georgia to destroy most of the northern airfields and any aircraft stationed at them. It would take a lot of aircraft patrolling the border to keep the bear at bay. And the USAF is way safe when it comes to protecting their planes, often they will be stationed far out of range and supported by tankers to transit into and out of hostile airspace. This is why the Shore campaign is by far the most realistic, long transit times.... Also kind of sucks in the game world. The Navy on the other hand, (I was stationed on a few carriers), well just park that thing in your front yard and launch every plane we got and keep em up all year (relative, in actuality usually about 100 miles from shore or more but thats not that far)... Navy and Marines dont screw around. A carrier fleet has enough firepower to stop a serious amount of planes.

Go into the editor, click on him, and where it says parking number at the bottom, pick one somewhere else, probably in one of the open spots I would assume.
-
OMG. You have to right click the number. It doesnt actually change anything like the cursor or no flashes, no highlights so you dont even know it is selected. WAY SHIFTY. I cant believe that was so dumb. Does it say that in the GUI manual??
-
Yeah Im done fixing that mission, and it works great but Im having a hard time with the goal crap. So.... In the goals 97, 98, 99 and 100 are defined. However how does the campaign builder know which mission to assign which value? I mean if I wanted some hypothetical scenario, say group A spawns and you recon it correctly. So you get 99 points. So now I want mission 5C to load instead of 5A. Your last sentence pretty much states you dont know what Im asking but Im clearing it up hoping someone from ED or someone skilled in the art of campaign building will come along. Cause Im pretty sure this is something along the lines of actually done in the campaign editor. ** Just now I tried creating a new campaign, stage 1 was shore M4, stage 2 I added all four versions of 5 and all of them read 0... 100 for value... what in the world? How do you change these freaking values... Starting to get irritated...:chair:
-
Ok in the example in the GUI, it shows picture of the shore campaign on like stage four or five. It has four seperate missions it could start and each one has a different value. So for A,B,C,D it is value [0 to 96, 97, 98, 99 to 100] respectively. So how did it know to set those values? My goals in that mission have different values. say I made it so that if you get 70, 80, 90, 100 then I reopened the campaign builder started a new one and loaded the two stages and those values werent there. They stayed at the above values... It seems like these values are assigned automatically but I dont know where they are evaluated and how to change them.
-
Hes not saying ford at all, its for. The other FOR. "Contact, air defense target at two o' clock, FOR three miles".....
-
LOL. Hes saying "for 10", as in miles.
-
:helpsmilie:Can someone kindly explain the mission values for the campaign to me? I read the GUI manual and it explains what they are and how the system works, however I am wondering how to change those values. As such Ive changed some of the goals for one of the shore missions and im not sure its going to work because it doesnt reflect the changes in the cmp file. Does the campaign builder get the range values from the previous missions goals are does it autogenerate? I tried a quick run with some of my missions but everyone I added to the same stage all appeared with the values 0... 100. ??

If its single player nice. Im currently working on two, one is SP and the other as far as I know is the first MP campaign. The Shore remake for SP Phoenix Rising for MP(on my machine it autoloads the missions correctly, just have to figure out the file structure so everyone can install it and use it this way. As far as Im concerned the only thing stopping a MP campaign is the ability to load the correct mission, so it works on mine it has to work on others.) Getting testers for the MP stuff is tough. I had two servers but one's host had a mysterious graphic card explosion knocking them out and the other is bouncing between several different games at the moment, which is nice cause I'm a little busy with classes, for the most part. Im still pushing for a Christmas/New Years release on Phoenix Rising and Im looking for Thanksgiving or sooner for The Shore(Really going for Halloween but I dont want to boost expectations).

Looking for a good source for free sound samples.
WildFire replied to MadTommy's topic in User Created Missions General
Oh you meant sound FX. doh. Yeah what druid said. You ought to PM Ranger and ask how he built that last mission, I played that online and it had some pretty good stuff. I think arma with the ACE sound mod is pretty realistic, that would be a good way to go using druids method. -
Ive also been watching that combat helo site for a LONG time. Dude has come a really long way. I wish hed hurry up and sell it to a full on developer or start a company.

WildFire replied to MadTommy's topic in User Created Missions General
Im actually adding a whole bunch of custom audio to a few of my missions, including my remake of the shore campaign. I must say I was afraid to attempt audio but last night I learned how to make realistic audio. It took one free audio editing program and free file converter, one youtube video, a mic, windows sound recorder and about an hour for my first perfect piece. +/- 30 mins for playing around with it. I found its pretty d*mn easy. Thats probably why no is making any templates or usable stuff. Cause when you take a few minutes to figure it out you can make your own in minutes, today I finished a two minute dialogue in about 5 minutes. Cake. If you wanna know what I did or use pm me. Or hit me up if you need a voice. Good luck dude-
