I do not like 6DOF cockpit, I can re-use old 2D cockpit?
TZeer replied to hx5791's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The FPS drop when activating lights is also very noticeable on the A-10C as well. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=103399 And for people who don't experience this. You are already bottlenecked by something else. VRAM, CPU whatever. Regarding general FPS loss in the sim itself. The biggest FPS killer in the game is number of objects in the 3d models that are rendered. I don't know where people get that it's due to flightmodels, avionics etc. That is purely rumor, myth++ put out from some peeps who have either heard it from someone who has heard it from someone else again. Or people who have no clue what they are talking about. I did hour's of testing a while back ago to track down what killed my FPS at certain times. There are some interesting results there. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491 -
Bug Report: Heat Blur on, reduces GPU and CPU performance
TZeer replied to TZeer's topic in Game Performance
Not possible to turn off heat blur atm. It's a known bug. -
Advanced Flight Model - (AFM). What actually is it?
TZeer replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
And because the way the graphic engine in the DCS works, it's held back by the CPU. Number of objects in the 3d model is in some way handled by the CPU and not GPU. And more objects that are in one scene the lesser FPS you get. Tried, tested and documented. -
Nope, you would be surprised how much the object count matters to your FPS. See this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491&page=6

Just a few tips: If you wanna test GPU performance, don't do it in an environment that will be bottlenecked by your CPU. I have run SLI setup with the exact same cards. And they should perform better. When I had them there was a graphical bug related to the heat blur effect on the A-10C. Whenever the effect was active the FPS would drop by a large margin. It didn't matter if you looked at it or not. This graphical effect is only active when you re below ~260 knots. Which is almost all the time. So set up a simple scenario in the mission editor, with just your plane. Test FPS with heat blur effect turned on and off. You can also just have the plane with no weapons, and increase speed until the you go over the limit where the heat blur effect goes away. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101459 Certain areas on the map has a large amount of 3d models with a high object count. Those object's are tied to the CPU usage. So more objects on a 3d model = higher load on the CPU. This will affect the FPS in a very big way, and in some cases you will not have a increase in FPS in any way due to CPU being already taxed 100%.

Currently running a single GTX Titan. Quite happy with the performance. But as stated from others, if your CPU is not among the quickest, you will still get hit by sloppy performance in crowded areas. This is due to number of objects in the game world is handled by the CPU and not the GPU. Looking away from that, the titan does a very good job for me. I'm currently running 2560x1440 resolution. Vsync on so have 60 FPS most of the time, can dip down to about 40 at the lowest, but that's not the Titans fault.

I know :) I have some basic knowledge about it due to my work as a automation technician. Laminar flow, turbulent flow, Reynolds number, higher the flow = higher pressure loss +++ fiscal metering systems. But not enough I think to contribute in any meaningful way, apart from stating, "that looks strange" :D Appreciate the time and work you guys put into this.

That's why it says: :) So even if it's rough, it gives a guideline. And 25% versus 43% is quite a leap and gives an indication that it bleeds speed to fast. But the boost times seems way of. ~6 sec initial boost and ~6 sec sustained boost? http://www.f-16.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=123182

I'm no air jockey or math guru. But the missiles performance looks anemic at best. Just had a quick test for fun. - Total boost time: 12-13 sec What?? - This is divided roughly 50/50 when looking at animation and behavior in game. So ~6 sec boost and ~6 sec sustained boost? And this: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?97983-AIM-120-range-questions Gives a good explanation on how missiles behaves in a simplistic way. And some rules of thumb.. One that struck out is this one: Quick test I did with the AIM-120C @ 40000 feet: Max speed at the end of boost ~ 2600 km/h After 25 sec, ~ 1500 km/h Lost roughly 43% of it speed. @ 6000 feets: Max speed at the end of boost ~ 1800 km/h After 10 sec. ~800 km/h Lost rougly 50% of it speed.

What over clock is you're CPU running?

Bed time reading :) enjoy. US Army Apache Longbow AH-64D Attack Helicopter Operator’s Manual http://publicintelligence.net/us-army-apache-longbow-ah-64d-attack-helicopter-operators-manual/

Sweet. So no extra stress on the cpu, thats nice. Will test this asap. Looks nice!
-
What is the object count on the models compared to the old ones?
-
AH-64D would be amazing. Any 3rd party who would pick that one and be able to do it properly would basically get every apache nerd come rushing to DCS. It's no module or software out there to fill that gap. Except Enemy Engaged series, but that's like 10 years old now. It could be that ED already have decided to do the Apache in the future and it's off limits for 3rd parties. We just have to wait and see.

Massive artifact after missile hit...
TZeer replied to ENO's topic in Video Corruption and Related Card Issues
Can your reproduce this in the editor? Fog, weather etc? Is it only this mission? What version is your nvidia driver? -
Make a note of all your nvidia settings. Then reset everything back to default. Apply vsync in DCS, not in the nvidia panel. And why do you have MAX FPS @ 60? If your vsync is working there should be no need to set that parameter. I have run DCS on 3 different setups now. Single 580, SLI 580, AMD 7970 and GTX Titan. With two different CPU's and two different mobo's. All I do is leave nvidia at default, do my settings in game, and that's it. Never had nay issues with TIR5, or anything like that. But as soon as my setup is out of vsync, I will see tearing. Which I will say is normal. Since that's what vsync is for. Prevent tearing. Just came to think of it, do you get tearing if TIR5 is deactivated?
-
Whats your FPS? And what is your MAX FPS setting in the graphic.cfg file? My experience is that SLI works very well. But people have been tweaking and changing settings all over the place. Enabling vsync in game and in the nvidia panel at the same time for example, running MSAA in game while also having it enabled through the nvidia panel, or being held back by the cpu without knowing it.
-
If you have 2 screens: Have DCS run on 1 screen. On the other you bring up your task manager to monitor your CPU performance. Then have program like nvidia inspector for nvidia cards, or whatever AMD users use to monitor the GPU usage. Turn off vsync. Start the game and start flying around. Monitor the GPU and CPU usage. Since you have turned off vsync the game will try to show as many FPS as possible. If the GPU is not used @ ~98-100% all the time, your CPU is bottlenecking it. If you GPU is able to run at ~98-100% all the time, but you are still getting FPS drops, it's your GPU that is holding the performance back.

My first proper sim I had was the Jane's Longbow 2. Had hundreds of hours in that one. Then I had Enemy Engaged both the Apache and Comanche one. Over the years the apache got quite a nice upgrade from volunteers. The apache one is my top choice for a chopper.

Sigh, and me who got all excited for nothing :D
