Haven't installed DCS World yet, but with the standalone v1.1.1.1 the tower gives you the "cleared for visual, contact tower" -line when your distance is about 6 nm from the airport. However, if you try to contact the tower immediately after that line, the tower won't answer. The tower will answer only after you are within approx. 5 nm. So, because I have to wait a bit before asking for the clearance, I sometimes forget to contact the tower, and ATC will give me an "automatic" clearance just before landing. I wonder if something has been changed with the DCS World/A-10C Module or if the clearance procedure goes the same way as I just described?

You mean 22" screen is too tiny? I think it depends on the distance and your personal preferences. I'd say it's not too tiny if you feel comfortable with it.
-
If you mean my setup, the tiny monitor with attached MFCD-frames is a cheap 18.5" Acer. The rightmost is a 23" HP touch screen. The pic shows the dimensions of the screens maybe a bit out of proportion because the 24" main screen appears to be tinier than the touch screen, although it is not. And they are both 1920 x 1080. The Acer has some lower resolution.

Here you are my temporary (for several months now :D) setup:

I've seen that once when I disabled the Ground Safe and fired GAU on runway. Wasn't sure what caused that. It was not the F6 though.

Once again a high quality video released from Ralfidude's Movie Studio! Nice entertainment as always!

New Warthog - question on small twist in center?
FreeFall replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Actually, a few months ago I thought my joystick had developed that kind of twist (I think) you describe. But then I noticed that after using it for some months the knurled locking wheel had gotten a bit loose. I tightened the wheel and after that the stick felt OK again. I can twist it a bit, but considerable force is needed. So, I suppose it's good to check the locking wheel once in a while. Try to loosen the locking wheel a bit. And there will be a tiny loose twist available, I think. -
Also, Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features :)

1. Strange. Pure speculation: Sounds like some kind of hardware/incompatibility problem. Maybe try to change the sata-cable. I would run some memory diagnostic software too. Try higher memory voltage or tweak mem timings to slower? 2. Which graphics card driver version? Does it look like this: I have HD6950 as well, and I still use the Catalyst 11.6 drivers because of the "white boxes". See this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=77371

Yes. Don't know if TrackIR can be used with external view. Anyway, when you have activated the external view with F2, you can use these commands as well: RAlt + F2 (= AltGr + F2): Toggle camera position LAlt + F2 (= Alt + F2): Toggle local camera control Now you can move the cam position by moving your mouse. Just repeat the command (toggle) to get back to normal external view. Also: LCtrl + F2: View own aircraft

I think the comms/mic up is also unmapped by default. I think I was quite confused myself when I tweaked with these settings and tried to read the manual. And it was sooo long ago cannot remember any more the details. But at least I have all those three boxes checked for Pause and Center. However, with my TrackIR settings the Exclusive is not checked. Don't even know/remember the meaning of this... :D

That's almost like my MX518. BTW, I mapped the Fwd/Back thumb buttons.

I've mapped my TrackIR 5 Pause and Re-Center to my mouse (which has plenty of extra buttons and is located next to my joystick). Works OK for me.

I only fly DCS A-10C (v1.1.1.1 at the moment). So, if I want to enjoy the updated versions of the sim in the future, I cannot stay with the "standalone" version but must download the DCS World and A-10C module? There won't be updates for the "standalone" any more? Right?

I prefer HOTAS to keyboard. But it's just my personal opinion. :)

The modifier acts just like the shift-button of you computer keyboard. When you press it simultaneously with another button, the original button gets "an alternative role". So, use the pinky paddle as a modifier and map any button with it to perform any command you wish. As you can see from the pic, I use Pinky Paddle as a modifier to activate night vision goggles as well (with TMS button right). And actually to control the brightness of goggles too (TMS up and down), but those commands are somewhere outside of that screen capture.
-
This is how I did it (see the attached pic): I just added a new modifier. In my case it is called Paddle (Pinky), that is the paddle switch of joystick. Then I mapped that + "Joy BTN_POV1_U" to reset the trim (as you can see from the pic).

Congrats! :joystick: Now when you have dual throttle, it's great fun to train the Engine Restart Procedures (Windmill Restart and APU Restart). Just shut down one engine while airborne, train flying with only one engine, and then restart the engine again (the exact procedures can be found in Flight Manual p. 590-591 (Emergency Procedures)).

Explanation: See the attached pics for further info. Those pics were originally posted here by other forum members. See also this thread (some elevation stuff explained): http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=72925

How about limping home with half of your tail missing? I mean, with only one rudder/elevator left. IMHO with DCS A-10C sim you can stay airborne pretty easily (must use pedals), but the landing is hard to perform because the aircraft really does fly in a weird position. BTW, it's kinda easy to deliberately lose parts of your tail if you wanna simulate this situation; just dive close to the ground and pull the stick hard so that your tail touches the ground. :)
-
Actually, I only fly with DCS A-10C :D and haven't ever installed Target software. So, because I don't know Target software at all I cannot help very much. However, if you use the Forum Search I'm pretty sure you'll find lotsa info about using Target. One link: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=81222

Normal procedure (my opinion) is that (with DCS A-10C) you don't install Target software at all. It just messes things up. Only if you wanna dim the green LEDs of the throttle, you might consider installing it. For Saitek, just install Saitek drivers. You can totally adjust the curves/dead zones from A-10C controller settings.

You're welcome! One more tip: Using the TM HOTAS Warthog Joystick Pinky Paddle as an additional modifier is extremely handy. It gives you many "extra buttons". For example, with Pinky Paddle + Throttle Mic Switch combinations I Zoom In/Out and reset Zoom. Also, with Pinky Paddle + Nose Down I reset the Trim. Just choose the buttons which you feel comfortable with. I also control the Labels On/Off and Active Pause with certain buttons using Pinky Paddle as an additional modifier.

Some hints when it comes to Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals: After installing them, first go to the A-10C controller settings and invert the axis of pedal toe brakes. This is a must procedure. EDIT: Got sniped by Wrecking Crew... After that you maybe could check that the pitch and roll are not mapped to pedals. Cannot remember which version of DCS A-10C I was running when I got the pedals, but anyway, I had to manually fix them (= un-map the pitch&roll from pedals). Maybe you won't face this situation at all, but just wanted tell you. Also, I have noticed with my Saitek pedals that if I release the brakes "too quickly", they don't always go back to zero. You can clearly see that by activating the controls indicator of DCS A-10C (RCtrl + Enter). However, if I go to Windows Game Controllers and see the brake axis, they always seem to go back to zero. Even if I release the brakes very quickly. So, especially with takeoff, I usually release the brakes rather gently.
