How to find targets at a Steerpoint with TGP?
FreeFall replied to Weasel's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
AFAIK, China Aft Long slaves TGP to Steerpoint. Just check if the Steerpoint is exactly the one you want. If you have the automatic steerpoint advancement activated (it is as a default), the steerpoint will be changed automatically. You can disable this by pressing the FPM button of CDU panel and when you see the AUTO, click the LSK button located to the left of the word AUTO. Then it will be manual. -
I also experienced that "x and y axis tied to pedals" thing. I was a bit confused. :) After installing TM HOTAS Warthog and Saitek Combat Pedals: - unbound the pitch and roll from pedals - inverted the brake axis of pedal toe brakes - unbound the View commands from stick Trim button, and mapped trim instead

I'm pretty sure that after adjusting your approach altitude your refueling will be a success story.

Makes sense. You haven't seen the boom lift because you haven't seen the boom.
-
Exigo's steering is absolutely marvellous! I often over-compensate and end up oscillating all over. The boom really is lifted. That's why you should't use the (tip of the) boom as an aimpoint when you approach; if you use it as an aimpoint, you'll lose concentration when it's lifted. Strange, if you haven't seen the boom lift...? edit: Pure speculation: Maybe you haven't seen the boom lift because its angle already has reached the upper limit when you are approaching? So you really are high.
-
Maybe you have seen this video posted here some time ago (by Exigo): Anyway, watch it again and take a look at the location/position of the tanker. And try to imitate it while you are closing the tanker yourself. The boom angle has upper and lower limits. Of course left and right limits too, but u can easier "see" if you are crossing left/right limits. When you finally reach contact, it would be nice if you were located so that the boom angle is not even close to its upper or lower limit. But instead right in the middle. This way you can "wander around" more before the boom hits the limit and you are disconnected.

This video (link below) is quite good, only a couple of exceptions: 1.You don't have to keep aircraft steady after releasing GBU-38. If you had the proper SPI, GBU-38 is fire and forget. With laser guided bombs like GBU-15 it's essential that you can lase the target. Then you keep the aircraft steady, so that laser can lase the target. 2. I myself have the habit of keeping the Azimuth steering line (the long green vertical in the HUD) inside the CCRP reticle. Just pause the vid if it goes too fast.
-
Is it possible that you are flying too high? Or low. The operational boom angle is very restricted. So even if the boom is right before your nose, the angle might be wrong and you won't be connected. Try to adjust your flying level compared with the tanker. I think I used to fly too high originally. But now I'm pretty comfortable with the boom. Takes only some 3 - 4 reconnects to get filled up. :) Edit: By the way, if you want to get your hands sweaty, try AAR. Sweaty hands guaranteed. :megalol:

Good. Feel free to edit the width & height of MFCD. And position coordinates as well so that it looks good on your screen. -

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
FreeFall replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Did this quite quickly, so it may contain errors... But at least you can try. Here we go: Your 7inch.lua file will contain the followin lines: Use Notepad++ and save it as "7inch.lua" into your Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Config\MonitorSetup\ Start DCS-10C and go to Options/System Graphics. Your resolution is 2720x1080 (click the space there and type the figures). Aspect ratio will be automatically OK. In the Monitors, you should find your "7inch". Choose it. -
There are letters "PTR" above the switch. Left side of the switch: A B L E Right side: S T O W The able enables the bars.

When TGP is SOI, you can boresight it with China Aft Short. Now the diamond is pretty much centered in the HUD. Try to steer so that the diamond goes onto the target and then slew a bit and it locks. Slew a bit more if the diamond's position is not satisfactory. BTW, you can change the slew rate of TGP (eg. from default 4 to 1, see Flight Manual (p. 445)). Diamond now moves faster on the HUD. If you are very close to the target already, then you don't have enough time to use the method described above. If you shoot a short burst with cannon, the Z Markpoint will be created, and you can switch the STEER PT dial to Mark, choose Z and slave TGP to Z. Easier to find the place with TGP and attack again. edit: And you must aim and shoot the target. If you just fly level and shoot with cannon, the Z Mark will be created some 5 miles ahead of you.

Track attached. In the attached track I land to Gudauta: When the clock of the aircraft shows about 12:07:40, I contact ATC for the first time after landing. And ask clearance for startup. No answer from tower. 12:08:08, I repeat the request. No answer. Then I switch dial to INT and ask for Ground Power, which is accepted. I turn off engines and after that contact with tower is OK. EDIT: BTW, PM:ed link to Святой Track for ED Testers.trk

Thanks all you guys for trying to help. Anyway, this tiny problem of mine is not the end of the world, and I can easily live with it; I either take off without permission, or shut down the engines briefly. No big deal. I was just confused and thought that as a newbie I do something wrong, because all other communications with radios work OK.
-
1.1.1.0, yes.
-
Did the same, only with Kobuleti (I set VHF AM to ATC frequency, which is 133.0 with Kobuleti): I placed friendly units there. If there are no friendlies, there is no ground crew either. I know that very well. So without friendlies I wouldn't be able to rearm or refuel or anything. But I can refuel and rearm and talk to chief after landing. My only problem is that I won't get any response from tower if I keep engines running all the time after landing. If I shut down the engines for a minute, the ATC is alive and loud and clear immediately. And all communication works like a charm. Also, if after getting no response from tower I just taxi to runway and take off, the Kobuleti ATC is immediately available as soon as my gear is off the ground and I am airborne. I can request for landing, and tower answers with happy voice. I use TM HOTAS throttle Mic Fwd. Also tried LAlt + Num+. It opens exactly the same radio menu. I choose F5/ATC. Request. No answer. I tried with Radio Assists and Easy Communication on. Same result. No contact with tower. I tried with Radio Assists and Easy Communication off. Same result. No contact with tower. I even saved a track file. But as usual, the track replay is totally "parallel reality". Every single f***ing track that I have EVER saved are a totally different world compared with the original "live" flying. For example once I flew a 2 hour mission successfully. I saved the track. I started to watch it and in the replay track I died within first 5 minutes by SAM launch (which I originally escaped by heavy manouvering). So I think uploading my tracks is of no use?

I wish it would! I have tried several times, for example with fast missions. But it won't work that way. That's why I asked in the first place. The problem is that ATC won't answer at all, if I request start up with engines running. And I request start up when I have taxied to the parking area, where I have rearmed and refueled with no problem, while engines running. Ground crew does anything I want. But when I'm ready to go, switch dial from INT to VHF, and contact tower, the only option is to request start up. And when I do that the tower never answers. But if I shut down the engines, after that ATC gives clearance to all my requests. First to start up. Then after start, I'm given permission to taxi. And close to the runway I get the clearance to take off. One more thing: If I remember right, after requests with no answers and after shut down, ATC gives the clearance for start up immediately. So my original unsuccessuful request(s) for start up kinda have been "pending" all the time. ATC just waited for me to shut down?
-
Tiny communication problem with tower DCS A-10C Flight Manual says (p. 49): All my radio communications with tower and ground crew work great. I land normally, taxi to parking area (as tower told me to) and rearm and refuel while engines running. I use the Intercom Control Panel so that when I talk to ground crew INT is selected with the rotary dial. After rearm and refuel I switch the Intercom Rotary Dial back to VHF in order to ask permission to taxi to runway. However, the only option is request for start up. But seemingly because my engines are already running (they have been running all the time), tower doesn't answer. In order to communicate properly with tower, I need to turn off the engines. Thank god there is ground power. After shutting down I can request for startup and after start up the taxi clearance comes right away. Am I missing something? Because I cannot request taxi clearance if I keep engines running all the time after landing.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
FreeFall replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
You're welcome. While I was tweaking the exports I used some of these files: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1256947&postcount=144 (Thank You, Gunnergolly!) Only removed a couple of duplicate lines from the beginning of some scripts, for example lines like this might be there twice of something: dofile(LockOn_Options.script_path.."UHF_Radio/indicator/common_init.lua") I think they work OK even with duplicate lines. Then you only have to resize and fix the positions by editing your monitor.lua, or whatever its name is. That takes time, so be patient. Just be careful: The names of the exports inside init.lua-files must exactly match with the names inside your monitor.lua For example if you have UHF_REPEATER entry in your monitor.lua, you have to use exactly the same name inside repeater_init.lua: . . vp = env.UHF_REPEATER . . Sometimes people use slightly different names, and if you only copy/paste the init.lua (with different name inside it, for example RWR instead of RWR_SCREEN), it won't work. -

If both throttles are set to MAX (instructions, stage 4.), the restarted engine will eventually quite fast reach considerable RPM if the windmill restart is successfull and there is no damage in the engine/fuel systems. By the way, just windmilled successfully. I did not hold the IGN at all. The "contact" (TM HOTAS Warthog ENG OPER button to IGN) lasted for about 0.5 seconds max or something like that.
