Is Helios running with Windows 8???
FreeFall replied to Terrorvogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
At least with my system, Helios works OK with Windows 8. If you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (not a fresh install), and if you have multiple screens, Windows may rearrange your displays. But you can easily tweak the settings right back where they were. -
Yes, should look like this (see attached pic). BTW, you can take screen capture by pressing PrtScr button of your keyboard. The capture will be in C:\Users\<You>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog (at least that was the path with standalone version, not sure what it is with DCS World version).

Don't know what causes that. About tweaking slew control: First, you should be able to adjust slew axis sensitivity in controller options. Secondly, you can adjust both TAD/TGP/HUD slew rate (from STAT page of MFCD) and MAV slew rate (from MFCD when MAV selected) independently from your cockpit. See the manual for further details.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66423 I don't remember what is the default keyboard shortcut to activate Active Pause because I have re-mapped it, but for sure you can find it in controller options. I suggest you try it, it's nice feature for beginners!
-
Have you ever used the Active Pause -feature of the sim? First when I started flying with A-10C I was really slow with all the buttons and controls and it was almost unbearable. You feel like you don't have enough hands and time to do things. Then I started using Active Pause, which gave me time to get buttons and views and weapons set. After some training I could cut down the usage of Active Pause and little by little I was totally comfortable using all buttons and controls "real time". I use TrackIR 5, and it is a must thing to have. And China Hat is one of the most important and most used buttons, so you must have it properly assigned. The procedure using TGP and MAV which I described in my previous post may sound labourious, but after some training all that only takes a few seconds.
-
I watched the track and didn't notice anything special. But I would have done attacks a bit differently. First, you didn't use TGP very much. Even with gun runs I use TGP to see the targets better. Just China Hat Aft Long, and TGP will be slaved to the current Steerpoint. Now you can see the targets. About killing the tanks and SAM: I first locate the SAM with TGP, choose Point Track mode (TMS Up Short, there will be a box in the center of the TGP crosshairs) and make it SPI (TMS Up Long). I can see from your track (from HUD) that your Steerpoint is your SPI all the time. So you didn't make SPI at all with TGP, although you zoomed into the tanks. Then, after having the SPI (= SAM), I switch right MFCD to Mav, use China Hat Fwd Long to slave all to SPI (all means also Mav, so Mav will be slaved to SPI as well) -> crosshairs of Maverick magically move onto the SAM, and you only need to TMS Up Short to "lock" (if the distance is right), and then just rifle. If you fly steady (autopilot), you can slew another Mav to the next tank and rifle again. Or you can switch to TGP, choose another target, make it SPI (with Point Track mode selected again) with TMS Up Long, switch MFCD to Mav and slave it to the SPI by China Hat Fwd Long.

I can never find targets from Bullseye callouts
FreeFall replied to Stacker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Which DCS A-10C version are you running? There was a fix for v1.1.1.1(?) sometimes. For more info about bullsey problems, see this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96631 -
I personally haven't ever installed Target software. Mainly because a) I only fly with A-10C, which is PnP with my TM HOTAS Warthog b) I'm content with the default LED brightness of Throttle c) I want to keep things simple (KISS Principle), and I have heard that installing Target may complicate things (and even ruin PnP?)
-
I additionally emphasize that installing Target software is unnecessary, because DCS A-10C is Plug'n'Play without Target. You can of course install Target if you want to adjust the LED brightness of Throttle and perhaps if you want to make some profiles for other sims or games.

One thread of touch screens: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1546500#post1546500 I use touch screen with Helios. You can download nice profiles for Helios. For example: http://www.gadrocsworkshop.com/node/9
-
Yes. Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog is the best choice for A-10C. If you want good rudder pedals as well, many ED Forum members and DCS A-10C pilots use Saitek pedals.
-
I have TM HOTAS Warthog joystick. It comes with the needed two triggers stages. Stage 1 activates PAC system, and stage 2 fires the gun. I don't know which joystick model you have, but I think you should assign these trigger stages somehow to get the best result.
-
Best way to select a weapon is: HUD to SOI, then DMS Left or Right to select profile, MMCB to select Master Mode. GUN PAC needs these enabled: SAS, EGI. Also EAC and GUN/PAC ARM, IFFCC not in OFF position. And remember that using speedbrakes disables PAC. Also, you should be properly trimmed before attack.

Updating DCS: A-10C Warthog from 1.1.1.1 to the latest.
FreeFall replied to Hunter192's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Actually, AFAIK, there is no such thing as 1.1.1.1 module, because 1.1.1.1 is standalone version only. Just nitpicking... sorry. :) -
Updating DCS: A-10C Warthog from 1.1.1.1 to the latest.
FreeFall replied to Hunter192's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Standalone v1.1.1.1 A-10C, and DCS World + A-10C Module are completely separate installations. You can have them both on your computer. You cannot update standalone v1.1.1.1 because there won't be any updates or patches for it any more in the future. -
I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this kinda stuff, and if this link has been posted before but anyway... Lots of nice pictures and videos of RC Models: http://www.skymasterjet.com/a10.htm Some examples: Ka1j-CgE73g

If the leak is somewhere between the Fire Pull valve and the engine, I suppose you have to do that to prevent loss of fuel. See the attached picture.

How to uppgrade from DCS A-10C ver. 1.1.1.1 to ver. 1.2.2?
FreeFall replied to BSS_Tintin's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You must install DCS World and A-10C Module. If you have plenty of space on your hard drive, you don't have to uninstall the standalone v1.1.1.1. You can have them both if you will. Of course when you have your 1.2.2. running OK, you can uninstall the v1.1.1.1 later. Just don't copy your old keyboard and controller settings to the new DCS World version, because there has been lotsa changes and old settings will mess things up with the new version. You'd better start from scratch with your controller settings. EDIT: One useful link if you use multiple monitors, Helios and stuff: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88732 -
You mean like an owl?:megalol: Seriously, I think you can adjust it in the preferences, but with preset settings if you look right back in your cockpit (180 degrees) so that you can see your tail, your true head angle is about 37 degrees or something like that. Generally, head movement doesn't cause big problems. Normally you can see your screen OK.

I have three screens: 24" main screen, below it a tiny 18.5" monitor with TM Cougar MFD frames (attached with velcro tape), and a 23" touch screen located to the right of the other screens. In addition to Cougar MFDs (and of course contents of A-10C MFCDs exported inside the Cougar frames), in my tiny sceen I have all the essential gauges visible as well. With my touch screen I run a modified (MFCDs removed eg.) Loz SM v2.1 Helios profile. I'm pretty happy with this arrangement, which kinda minimizes the need to use keyboard or mouse. Of course I also have TM HOTAS Warthog and TIR5.

There are ingame training missions. You'd better download the updated ones beforehand from here : http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/250461/ You learn things from - http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/DCS_A-10C_Guides,_Tutorials_and_Reference_Documents#Official_Resources (lots of videos and pdf-files) - Official Manuals (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/) - ED Forum. Visit the subforums. Good threads full of information.

OK. Lets say that after some training, especially when weather conditions are good and your aircraft has no damage, landing is pretty easy. However, with heavy cross winds, zero visibility or with some technical problems it's another story.
-
Landing is pretty easy. You just have to know some basic things so that you can maintain ideal glideslope and speed. After some training you'll be OK. Some landing tips can be found in these threads: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=85434 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96799
