Thanks WindyTX As it happens, after days of waiting and nothing happening (prompting me to ask the question on here) I turned the PC on last night and the first thing it did was update the firmware. Regards
-
I've signed up to the beta program with my Rift S, but my firmware is still at 1.37. I think there have been updates since (maybe to 1.39?). This was a few days ago with numerous reboots since. Is there a way to force the firmware update? Thanks in advance.

With regards to the intermittent white noise/static that flashes on the Rift S, has anybody successfully rectified this yet, or are we still awaiting a fix from Oculus? I think mine is getting worse which is worrying.

DCS: F-14 - Brickdust's "Drunken Sailor" VR Friendly Cockpit
parxuk replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in DCS Modding
Just want to thank you for your work. The mod has made flying the Tomcat much easier in VR (I can actually read things). If you get time please keep up the good work. Thanks again. -
Thanks @the_nephilim, but mine isn't finding any updates and says the currently installed version is the most up to date.
-
As I haven't received this update automatically, could somebody please tell me where I go to get it and install it? Thanks

Thanks

My version hasnt offered any update and States I'm at 2.5.4.30386. is that the current version?
-
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. Madmatt - be interested to know what you think once you've tested those drivers some more.

I've heard talk of updating Oculus software and firmware. How do you do that? I've looked in all the songs etc. but can't see how you do it? Also I updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest version last night. Everything went blurry, it was like I was seeing double. I uninstalled and referred to the previous and now it's fine again. Anyone else experience this?

Simply super. Thanks so much for this. As someone struggling to get to grips with the Tomcat, and not the time I would like to sit down and digest the full manual from Heat blur then this has been a god send to get me into a position that I can actually start flying with half an idea of what I'm doing. Really great work.

Now sorted. Found a great guide on YouTube and the Tomcat is much easier with fewer buttons than the warthog. Much easier to map via dcs than the saitek app also.
-
Sorry if im being lazy, but I also dont want to re-invent the wheel if somebody has already been there and done it, but has anyone got an image of the buttons/controls they have mapped to their stick. When I started on the A10 somebody had done a great profile and jpeg with nice little arrows showing which button did what. This really helped my small brain figure out what did what. Has anybody got such a mapping or can suggest what function to map to what button? I've had the Turkey a couple of weeks but am struggling to make headway with it. Thanks in advance

The cockpit displays are at 1024 (but not sync every frame). The brightness of the DDI? OK will try that thanks.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply and clarifying a few things for me. I dont have the Warthog, but my X52 isnt too bad for programming button presses. I am having difficulty with the big learning curve going from the Hog to the Tomcat at the moment though! Any idea what I can do to reduce the fuzziness of text on the DDI. It almost hurts my eyes trying to read it and I need to to get really close to make it legible. Thanks once again.
-
Thanks for the reply Dax. Do you have any suggestions for making the cockpit displays more legible? I have loaded the new cockpit skin for the tomcat, but I find the cockpit monitor display text looks very fuzzy/blurred.

Hey Madmatt Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I have a new computer, and havent played DCS in years so its been a brain teasing few weeks trying to remember how to set everything up. Adding VR to the mix has really confused things. I did try reading forum posts and watching videos but they often related to older version and things had changed, so I appreciate you letting me know your current settings. As a complete newbie to VR, I have some dumb questions if you dont mind: 1. What do you set your PD to? I believe this effects sharpness. I certainly am finding it difficult to read some cockpit dials and labels, and especially the digital display in the A10. I have to lean right in to try and make it legible. 2. Your settings show a resolution of 34440x1440. has that go anything to do with the Rift. Mine is set to 1280x1024. 3.When in VR is the display still supposed to show on your monitor? Mine does. Is that how its supposed to be an doesnt that then create additional work for the GPU having to output to 2 devices? 4. Is there a way (like with the TrackIR) you can change the sensitivity of the head movement. I feal like im breaking my neck trying to look behind me. Be great to be able to turn my head less in real life. Do you use something like VoiceAttack? I have no idea how I am going to get used to not being able to see my keyboard. Sorry for all the questions and thanks again.

I have exactly the same experience as you. I thought I must have inadvertently touched the lens and got a finger print smear on it. I'm new to VR and am loving it, but the smear effect is annoying.
-
Madmat I am brand new to VR and just getting back in to DCS after years away. My set up is almost identical to yours. Could you possibly post your settings so that I can attempt to match them? I have been trying to follow forum threads and YouTube videos but some are old and relate to different versions. Thanks

Well I've just ordered a rift s from very as they are currently offering £30 off so got it for £370. Can't wait to try it out as I haven't used vr before.
-
Thanks for the replies to my original post. I feel the general consensus is to wait and go for the Rift S, so I will see what the community have to say next week once they have had chance to test. Regards

I'm just trying to get back in to flight simming after a long break. I have upgraded my hardware but sill have an OLD and not very good 1080 32" TV. I fancy trying VR. I will likely only use it for flight sim. I know the Rift S is coming out in the UK next week at a price of £399. The original bundle of the Rift has now gone on sale for £199. I think this only includes 1 sensor. Would this suffice for DCS or do i need to buy more sensors before I can play it? Am I likely better off just waiting for the S? (though double the cost) Thanks

Would this PC (expecially CPU) be good for DCS?

Appreciate my GFX is a real weak point in my platform, but is spending £800 to end up with a slower processor a good idea, or i'm just better off keeping my pltform and upgrading only the GFX? The new processor (which cant be overclocked) only clocks at 3GHz and mine is currently at 4.8. Would the fact its a newer generation offer me any other advantages, or for DCS its all down to speed, and the faster the better? -

My resolution is 3200 x 1080, as I have a 1920 x 1080 main monitor and 1280 x 1024 monitor that I have an MFD on. Does the additional MFD badly affect performance?
