This is what I was doing as a work around last night. If I have it in a track mode and cant slew, rather than have to undesignate and find the same area again, just SCS right a couple of times and it seems to come out of the track mode and let you slew again.

Having been in the same situation as the OP I feel your pain and sympathize completely. I was flying the A10 6+ years ago and one of the things I couldn't do was AAR. I got so frustrated it was a big reason of me quitting. Last year I decided to get back in to DCS as I really wanted to fly the Hornet. After getting the basics learnt I was determined that I would master AAR. This time it wouldnt beat me! It took weeks of doing nothing else. I would get really frustrated and not understand why I couldn't do it, but I reasoned that if other people can do it then so can I. I stopped getting frustrated and blowing the tanker out of the sky (because that just doesn't help!) and practiced daily the tiny little stick and throttle movements required to hook up and then stay in the basket. Finally it began to come together and I could hit the basket, and then with more practice stay in the basket to fully refuel. These days i'm actually quite proficient at it, and look forward to missions which require it. The feeling of elation at finally being able to successfully AAR was amazing, and although when I struggled to learn it, I too wished for an easier way, I'm glad now I learnt the hard way and can do it properly on my own (as close to real world as we can in the sim). Please just practice and persevere. I promise you the reward is worth it. For me personally what did help was setting some curves on my joystick. I also had terrible trouble when first learning at hooking up to an S3 in the built in mission, so I found it easier to create my own mission and use a KC-130 instead (basket seemed more stable?). Once I was proficient in this I practiced on the S3. Just my 2 pence, but please stick with it.

DCS: F/A-18C Features Roadmap for Early Access
parxuk replied to Kate Perederko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I'm grateful so please don't think i'm not, but weren't we told very recently that the Hornet would be finished in 2020? Doesn't really matter to me because I will still be crashing it in to the back of the Supercarier, but just thought I read that somewhere? -
Thanks for your hardwork. Any idea when the SC version of the campaign will be available? Thanks

Many thanks SOH.

+1 Glad to hear someone else also has to press ATC more than once to get it to engage. Thought I had a problem with the joystick mapping or button.

Wow, complaints because no patch for a month and now 2 in as many days. Go ED!!!!

I'm a tad confused (happens often) please can I confirm that if I use a RIFT-S but don't use DCS via Steam, I should NOT be using SteamVR? Many thanks.

Hi, I'm really new to this also, and have a query with regards to your comment (it's not a criticism). All the videos I have watched and threads I have read all state that at 250 you dump the gear and flaps down. This does cause the plane to balloon up, but I just try to overcome it as best I can with a bit of forward stick until the speed and subsequently nose come down. I would love to know if (with respect) your method is a bit of a cheat, and what real world pilots/procedure is? Any comment from the RL Hornet drivers? -
Tweaking VR settings for smooth DCS Supercarrier experience.
parxuk replied to Mnemonic's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi Mnemonic I'm not much of a fan of shadows and found them to be very resource hungry so have them set to off, but wondered what the artifacts are that you mention as a consequence of not having them enabled. Are you saying overall my cockpit would look better with them on? Thanks in advance -

Thanks for the hardwork and research. So you set your PD to 1.0 within DCS and don't use Oculus Tray Tools to tweak anything? Thanks -
Swapping Supercarrier for Stennis in exisitng mission - how?
parxuk replied to parxuk's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
Thanks for the replies/answers. Will roll my sleeves up and try and learn the mission editor. -
OK, sorry this has probably been asked multiple times and I deserve a good flaming, but a look at the FAQs and previous threads hasn't yielded an answer. I don't know how to build missions (too busy learning how to fly). Is there an (easy) way to take an existing mission/campaign (Exigent Riviera for instance) and swap the Stennis for the Supercarrier so I can fly from that instead? Thanks in advance

I fly in VR (dont know about you) but have the same problem. First thing I do when I get in the Hornet is turn the map off, which is a shame but the only way I can use the AMPCD.

I used it this afternoon to uninstall the trial modules I didnt buy. Worked fine.

On this particular mission which uses a KC-135, the baskets are already trailing before you pre-contact.

Thanks. Good to know i'm not going completely mad, and that these are issues other people experience. I've been flying the Integral Resolve campaign and each mission requires AAR. Most of the missions I realised I had to refuel from the right hand side, but one mission (as mentioned below when my probe just kept going straight through the basket) I had to go to the left. Shame there cant be some way to know in advance. AAR is difficult enough without going through the trouble of lining up and trying to connect only to realise you are on the wrong side! Thanks again

Sorry if this has been discussed before. When on a mission with an AI wingman which involves air to air refueling, how do you know which side of the tanker the AI is going to want to take once commanding them to "hit the tanker"? I ask because on occasion I have been tanking and the AI has tried to connect to the same side as me (and subsequently crashed in to my rear). Also had a funny the other day when trying to tank with an AI wingman. I was trying to connect to the drogue but although the drogue was visible, my probe would just pass straight through and not connect. I tried the other side and connected fine. What's that all about? Is it because the AI wingman had already some how "bagged" that side, so it stopped me from latching on? Also I find that when the AI wingman does connect, he isn't there for long before detaching and stating he is rejoining me. He cant have filled his tanks in that time, and then hits bingo fuel before me which is frustrating. Thanks

Didn't realize it would make any difference to dumb bombs so thanks for the heads up

My DCS just updated the updater. Is that a positive sign or just wishful thinking?
