  1. If that is true, I might switch back. Patch days still worry me.
  2. Steam is really light in the background. The overlay is useful for many people. Steam also allows me to download dcs updates at over 10 megs a second. If ED manage to get their download speeds sorted out, I'd go back. But I doubt it'll happen.
  3. I assume you have already set the dcs data rate to the max possible? What fps are you getting in game?
  4. Good news.
  5. Nice job. Good screenshot.
  6. Funny thing, you imagine the cpu to be the bottleneck in a high fi sim, but in dcs, its all gpu. Edge should bring some great performance gains. Opening up multicore cpu suppport will be great once the gpus are running to their full potential.
  7. Post deleted - Thx mwd2.
  8. Well, I for one want some! I'm aiming to create some delivery missions for the Mi-8. We all know troop drops aren't the most interesting as the infantry AI bad around buildings (the only place you want to drop them). So, I'm looking to create cargo drop missions to allow your team to build stuff. AA / AAA. Reloading units is also something I'm looking into.
  9. Is there anything available for the Mi-8? I'm getting pretty tired of joining multiplayer servers only to find Mi-8s tasked with flying massively long distances with the constant threat of enemy CAP. The other problem is missions where the Mi-8 is expected to destroy ground targets.. Tonight, for example, I just fancy jumping on a multiplayer server and doing some troop drops or something useful, but I've tried it before and I can never find anything. I'm looking to make more of my own missions that will give Mi-8 players something to do. Anyone have any recommendations?
  10. DX9 is two generations back, now. Launched in 2002... That isn't new technology. DX11 was the end of 2009. We're expecting DX12 end of 2015, but it's Windows 8+ (so basically, like way DX10 was Vista). Chances are, people won't bother with it until MS release a decent O/S for desktops. However, it would still be nice to get some support from ATI. I'm probably going Nvida next.
  11. Testers can ask their bosses :) Would be nice to know if we should bin our ATI / AMD cards.
  12. Thanks, [FSF]Ian. I'll have to take a look at this on the weekend.
  13. Harder than I expected, I guess. I'll try and post one once I figure it out then!
  14. Great info all! One less thing to worry about while getting shot at by 23mm death slingers.
  15. I'm down with this. Seeing things can be a nightmare on dcs. I'm guessing EDGE will have this?
  16. Does it damage the engine?
  17. And is default. So if you add two conditions, both have to be met. Edit - I believe.
  18. Can anyone provide a minimal script to spawn a unit? I've been looking at CCTS for examples, but there are a lot of connections in there to decode. I'm sure I could do it given the time, but if anyone has a simpler version it would help me out a lot. Ideally I want to just spawn a unit next to / near another unit.
  19. Kinda quiet. Perhaps I'll add another question then. When doing rocket runs, I occasionally find pulling back on the stick results in a huge movement pointing my nose to the sky. I lose all my speed very quicky and my center ap channel disengages. I may be hit by something at the time. Further testing is required. Any ideas?
  20. When you drop in height then increase the collective, or when you pull high negative g moves, the engines sound as if they are going to give up. What exactly is happening here? Am I putting too much strain on the engines? Should I avoid this?
  21. Good info. I hope it is something they plan to implement in that case.
  22. Could engine overheat have been due to the environment it was flying in? Is it something that should happen often in the cooler areas of the world?
  23. Welcome to the world of Mi-8s, freespirit. The Mi-8 is my personal favorite of all the DCS modules, even though it isn't the most combat effective.
  24. To be honest, if you enjoy easy flight mode you're probably better off with another game. If you want to use easy flight mode as a start point before learning a full sim, then this game is a good choice. But as Retro mentioned, I don't think there is one for the Mi-8. Maybe Arma 2 / 3 would be a better choice for you? Or Take On Helicopters? EDIT - Nothing wrong with not wanting to play full sim. Everyone has their own preferences.
  25. Rudder trim helps a lot on the Mi-8, even with pedals. For takeoff, take off the wheel brakes, slowly increase the power and try to keep stable. Keep adding right rudder as you add power. Eventually you should start lifting upwards in a smooth take off. This will not work if you are overloaded.
