Yeah take those pics with the grain of salt. There isn't a good way to show through-the-lens pics showing what you going to see. Imagine trying to take picture of the surface of tv through bottom of the jar :)

I'm expecting big improvements in 1.3. DCS would really benefit from Asynchronous Timewarp (ATW) which should eliminate judder even if the frames drop below 90fps. Something I really hated with my experience with DK2.
-
Yes it describes the general idea but I wish to know how you move the cursor on screen. There are two possible ways. One would be to slave the cursor to the center of your view, so basically you move your head and position it dead center on some switch and then you have click button mapped somewhere (hotas ideally). This is great because it eliminates need of mouse interaction. Another way is to still keep the mouse and move/keep the cursor independently to your view. This method also has benefits as you can click things in your periphery while looking at something else. I'd like to know if ED experimented with both and which would be more natural.

I'm curious now. Did ED mentioned any details how the "laser pointer" input works? Is it locked to the user gaze like fixed point which move with users head or is it more standard mouse operated? Both would have some benefits. I'm not sure if anything was mentioned hundred pages before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For those seating on the fence, below Rift and Vive comparison from the FlyInside developer: http://forum.flyinside-fsx.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1617 He also added interesting comment on Reddit:

I think the problem is with the requirements. If the dev wants his game to be on oculus home store it needs to meet certain criteria. First I guess is the min spec requirement. We know how power hungry Sim games are. So running them at min 90fps without any dips wont be easy. Second is most probably accessibility. You need to be able to control it with xbox controller aaand I don't think that will be that easy with DCS (without hours spent on config and frustration) for average layman without previous experience. I'm sure they have some trial testing scheme before accepting anything into the ecosystem.

Wow these few sentences made my day. Cant wait!

I dont see a problem with buying first gen products. They are quite expensive but hey this is the price of being on the bleeding edge of tech nowadays. Also if you look at the second hand market for DK2 I can't see that much drop in price over time so I believe I will still get a decent resale price when I decide to go gen 2. There still should be good demand for first generation units as the mainstream PC market will still be catching up.

Totally agree with the above. ^^^ FOV is a bit different mainly due to optics. I found the below comparison where CBEVK7 is the CV1. http://puu.sh/mcw08/2d3660f0c2.png Also we should not forget user comfort where I think also Rift has an edge.

Not sure why the front camera gets so much attention. I had DK2 for some time and can't imagine anything more immersion breaking that seeing on/off real world while in the virtual cockpit. Yes, there were times when I really needed keyboard but then I could use my nose gap (space between the nose and the headset) for that. But other that that for great immersed gameplay I cannot imagine to jump in-out everytime I want to press a switch or something. Everthing needs to be mapped to HOTAS and some easy accessible pointer solution for switches must be in place for "blind" operation.

Rift vs HTC Vive If HTC decides to ship what they have now (the latest Vive Pre). After several reviews I went through then the Rift will have a slight edge when it comes to screen and overall viewing quality. Some people say that Vive has better FOV which is not true. It has more vertical (more round) while Rift has more horizontal FOV due to optics design in both headsets. The price of the Rift will most probably be lower than the Vive due to not including Touch controllers, unless HTC decides to ship some eco version to compete but it's highly unlikely as from the beginning the advertise as room scale experience. So the bottom line I think Rift will be the weapon of choice for the simmers both driving/flying cockpit users who couldn’t care less about motion controllers or room scale tracking. The lower price and the option to sale included Xbox controller to lower the cost of the headset even more is also additional benefit. EDIT: typo vertical>horizontal

Well people are complayning that the set is overpriced. I'm sure shortly after the release we'll see some detailed teardown with each complonent's value. Palmer is claiming that there ia a lot of custom hardware inside the deal is a steal. Time will tell... Overinflated shipping/taxes (Hello Australians) is another story.

Thrustmaster hotas warthog Slew Mod

You shouldn't experience any brittleness, at least my prints were very strong. I had to file one piece due to tight fit and was positively surprised with how strong the resin is. My small advice before you go anodised aluminum. Do some testing with the 3d printed parts first. They will cost you maybe £10 (I paid £16 for the set of two incase I mess up one). The reason is that you may not be happy with the outcome. I had to revert to original nipple. See my small feedback here and here -

Yes UK, but I would call them printing company. It's more like middle man site, connecting you with local printing businesses or even small private 3d printer owners who are willing to help you with your projects. All payments are done through the site so it's pretty safe. The printing guy I found was 5 minutes’ walk from the place I work, so super convenient. -

I did mine in black resin 25 micron. Really cheap, just use one of your local www.3dhubs.com. It's really strong and look decent. Some pics cheers -
I have butkicker gamer 2 and it work great with DCS (thanks to Sound Module by Andre) but for ideal operation you'll need drive it with software like Simshaker, Simvibe(second one not cheap) using additional $2 USB sound card instead of default sound as input.

2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?
wasyl00 replied to steve2112's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Don't worry, it's not a big problem I will change it in DCS. So far I was trying to avoid that since I use almost unmodified settings in DCS but I can live with it :) -
2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?
wasyl00 replied to steve2112's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I tried yesterday .004. It's so better to use scan codes in my case! Thanks. Just one more question. I'm having problem to bind S-Pause combination for active pause. It seems that Pause button cannot be simulated. Is that the case? thanks -
2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?

Thanks for instant reply! I'll test it later when I get home. Also for some reason I had problems with the program reading the config file when I skipped descrition field and went : Num1 F1 Num2 F2 Not all buttons were working. But everything was fine when I added anything as description like: Num1 F1 function_1 Num2 F2 function_2 Not complaining just reporting possible bug. Anyway this program is great I think this should be sticked or something. It's the only method I know that allows mapping several keyboards for DCS. And I tried a lot, even HIDmacros and Luamacros, I know, are not working. And I believe this should work for any HID device. Edit: check the picture of my numberpad it has Backspace and even Clear, not sure how to call these in the Interception :) Edit2: Well Clear is Delete and it works but Backspace and Enter doesn't.
