Palmer Luckey confirmed in response to some reddit questions: "CV1 will meet or exceed the quality of Valve's demo." source: EDIT: one more comment from Palmer: Mentioned this in my talk at Steam Dev Days, hopefully it gets posted online soon. I want to note that the Rift will not be designed for experiences that allow you to walk around a room like the SDD tech demo, but the specifications and quality will be above the baseline level Michael Abrash outlined in his talk. Valve's prototype hardware and software are very well integrated and calibrated, more so than the Crystal Cove demos we got together for CES, but the actual components are not all that different. Since ED confirmed official support for the VR devices we should get VR Sub forum instead of just stickie with 1200+ posts. I don't think anyone new to this forum will go over all these pages (yes I did! but I'm hardcore reader/not poster:) to find some news/progress reports, implementation...etc. What do MODs think about this idea?

OMG that is so cool!!! I wish to be one of those luckiest guys on the planet and check Valves prototype. I know it will probably never surface as consumer version, but it shows what is possible with the current state of technology and if the money is not a problem. I love the way they refer to it as not VR or immersion but rather "presence" where your mind is completely tricked that you are there.

Well.. future is not that far as you think. The rift's community rummor mill churns at full speed. Samsung is expected to announce Samsung S5 with the incredible 2560x1440 AMOLED screen in 5-5.2" package. ^^Agree…but. I hope people will not dismiss this technology because of initial shortcomings e.g resolution. As with every new technology time is required to people to accept this type of gaming and learn how to use it properly. As well time is necessary for developers to improve it in every aspect in next versions. Look at TRACKIR’s specs and how they improved over time with another release. I’m sure at one point Rift will be good enough for DCS. Well maybe not consumer kit ver. 1.0 but maybe 2nd iteration (4K screen-who knows) with much polished edges will be something to invest in. After reading comments from CES 14 where Oculus demoed latest prototype I have that impression that this technology will stay for good.

So to sum up: New Rift prototype codename : Cristal Cove - 6DOF positional tracking - 1080P resolution AMOLED with low persistence- (eliminates smearing) - lower latenency (around 30 milliseconds ) Did I missed something ? EDIT: Oculus had nothing to announce at this time so 2014 is uncertain for consumer version. Apparently still everything (including so much needed for us resolution) is still subject to change. ANOTHER EDIT: There is even a tracking dot on the back of the head for full 180 degree tracking- think now what happens when you turn you head slightly out of TRACKIR view:) Wow! the waiting for the consumer version is becoming unbearable :) I'm even gonna wait with my PC upgrade:)

probably there is a lot of radio communication involved in RL, unlike DCS.. I know, I know there is Ts, tars, to help organize these things but sometimes I wish there should be multiplayer voice com build in DCS..

Just one quick question for the pro sim gurus. I have this problem when I'm approaching occupied tanker. I'm a bit confused which side of the tanker is used when awaiting refueling and which after refueling. a10 manual states that pre refueling side is on the right behind and left after. But original RAF manual states opposite. I attached extracted pages below. Can anyone can share some knowledge? What do you do in case when you are approaching tanker and there are some planes behind?

I'm doing little research to find out how much would cost a small production run in UK. I already created drawings for my project and looking for someone to make it. Probably a guy with lathe. My main objectives to make it as one piece of metal threaded extension in reasonable quality and price. If I manage to complete my project I will decently share it here.

Bought Huey, Mi8 and Ka-50. Cheers for ED!!! Time to learn some chopper skills!! What a wonderful time.
