Tutorials for working with Jester AA & BVR
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thanks Karon, the guide in your sig is pretty amazing, ( just found it!) a LOT of information in there..... -
Into the power supply as suggested above. Trust me, I upgraded from a G2 to the Pro and it was soooo much better - comfort, image quality and performance wise. I was contemplating upgrading my 3090 to run my next VR headset when I had the G2, as the performance was OK with a lot of tweaks and some compromises. However, I could never get frame rates over 60 reliably and tended to run it 30 with Motion reprojection and it was very smooth. Different story with the Quest Pro....I did have a bit of a time getting it working as it should but now it is, its amazing.....the sheer comfort of not having something clamped on your face is hard to beat, plus DCS looks amazing, and I run at 36 FPS with ASW forced on and the graphics and performance are awesome.....with no need to upgrade my card.. My suggestion is to persevere, you will be glad you did

Not sure what you are doing, but I use the same cable and mine never goes under 65% no matter how long I use DCS, generally, its around 80% after a 1.5 or 2 hour session. Using the link cable that came with the Pro, the headset would be flat in that time.

Is there any immersive way to interact with the cockpit?

markturner1960 replied to dlder's topic in Virtual Reality
My solution is using a trackball, which I mount on my right thigh on a pilots kneeboard mount. I do have point control as well, but tend to use the trackball most, its just really easy and right next to my stick. To the OP, I would not advise complicating it with those things you mentioned, most dont work great either. Of course, most controls are on my HOTAS and othe rsim pit hardware, which I can easily access with muscle memory or an easy peek under my Quest pro. -
Not sure how you have yours et up, but I never need to use teh controllers with mine now. I switch on Oculus, use hand tracking to turn on Quest link from within the Oculus cliff room, then simply launch DCS etc from my desktop, using the mouse as normal......

Dont use the Quest link cable. I had many similar issues and process when I got mine as well.....but now, its working perfect, comfort and performance is excellent, DCS NEVER looked so good and I have gone over to using VR full time now.... This is what you need: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Compatible-Accessories-Charging-Playing-Without/dp/B0BM93GWF1/ref=sr_1_2?crid=23GVFTPXALC1J&keywords=JSAUX+Link+Cable+5m%2C&qid=1694031738&sprefix=jsaux+link+cable+5m+%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-2

Tutorials for working with Jester AA & BVR
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thanks, looks like I need to dive into the RIO aspect of things to better understand the process. But yeah, I was looking for some kind of guide on using Jester in this scenario as max said. I did find some Grim Reapers videos after I posted, which I usually discount as there are generally much better tutorials, and they do actually deal with fairly well. By the way, does anyone know where best to look for a summarised description of the functionality of the radar and how to operate it? Found a good Jabbers video and started taking notes, then it occured to me that maybe this had already been done.....? -
So up until now, I have been concentrating on basic airmanship in the F14, but am now starting to look at Air to Air. There are not any specific training missions and a You tube search has not turned up much. I found a Deephack one here: which is good for what it covers, but I would like to know about how best to use Jester in the BVR area, what he can and cant do, how best to interact, etc. As it seems its kind of assumed that as Pilot, you dont touch the radar. And the training missions assume you are the RIO...... Thanks

AV8BNA Cockpit Mod retexture
markturner1960 replied to O_Wolfpac's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
Any chance to get this released, even without IC compatibility? Thanks! -
Hi, my usually very stable DCS crashed today about 1.5 hours into a multiplayer session....no crash log, just the DCS log, but at the end I found this: 2023-08-31 08:22:17.471 ERROR VISUALIZER (Main): OpenXR xrWaitFrame failed with error: XR_ERROR_SESSION_LOST 2023-08-31 08:22:17.490 ERROR VISUALIZER (8792): xrEndFrame failed with error: XR_ERROR_CALL_ORDER_INVALID 2023-08-31 08:22:17.491 ERROR VISUALIZER (8792): xrBeginFrame 47511.584951 failed with error: XR_ERROR_CALL_ORDER_INVALID 2023-08-31 08:22:17.502 WARNING LOG (5576): 1 duplicate message(s) skipped. 2023-08-31 08:22:17.502 INFO VISUALIZER (Main): OpenXR: request restart 2023-08-31 08:22:17.502 INFO VISUALIZER (Main): OpenXR: request exit 2023-08-31 08:22:17.514 ERROR VISUALIZER (8792): xrBeginFrame 47511.584951 failed with error: XR_ERROR_CALL_ORDER_INVALID 2023-08-31 08:22:17.515 INFO Dispatcher (Main): Stop Anyone got any pointers? Thanks! Am using DFR by the way

Out of interest, is this thread relevant to the current situation with the QP? I am assuming not as nothing along these lines has been mentioned in this thread or any other Quest Pro specific ones, but.....one or two QP users in that thread reported better performance. There was the point that using OTT is different to setting the mirror resolution within DCS...although, no idea why this should be?

Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer
markturner1960 replied to Bankler's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hi, I notice in the F10 options, there is a "Case 3" option....does this work? As I waited until dark and selected it, flew 40 miles out, but did not case 3 comms from the boat? How is it supposed to work? ( if it does!) And if it does not work, can I make a request for it to be added? Would be awesome to be able to train and get the grades as per case 1...... -
Crosswind takoff / landing - disabling NWS completely?
markturner1960 replied to gulredrel's topic in DCS: Mirage F1
I think its a DCS thing......ground handling of all the modules I own is terrible once you get above taxying speed and there is ANY wind involved........It's like trying to steer a supermarket trolley with a broken wheel and I simply cannot believe that it is that difficult IRL....in fact I know so, as I fly at Shadowlands online school, led by an ex RAF fast jet trainer, Tim Davies, and he says what I say..... Trouble is, I dont really know how best to address it within the sim.....nor it seems does anyone else....... -
Thank you for the helpful advice ! I have many hundreds of traps using the Hornet and can nail a good groove pretty well in that. I have only recently, in the last 6 months started learning to fly the F14 in earnest and its a whole different pot of halibut.......and thats just in clear ideal conditions. So I do realise that it needs a lot more "flying" and many many hours to get as good results as flying the Hornet. I have only 50 or so carrier landings under my belt with the Tomcat by comparison......On top of that, of course, adding in the complication of challenging conditions, probably way too early in my Tomcat learning process, is the root cause here. I honestly feel that I simply dont have the in depth skill of landing and flying the F14 yet in place, to enable me to take that step to being able to cope in more difficult situations. Plus, when I posted, that was after only 2 attempts, so maybe I was a bit hasty .....Thanks again!
-
Thanks all, very helpful.....@spiceman, yes, I am mixing up my air & groundspeed! Sorry for the confusion! I do have a small issue with trying the ACLS as suggested, as I use an FFB stick and at handover point, ( and this is a Heatblur bug I understand thats not yet been addressed...) the jet will nosedive into the sea...... I will keep trying! Thanks again!

Advice on best product for bass shaker installation

Excellent, thanks! -
Another bump
-
I have made it fit, simply used some silicon blobs. The G2 is still for sale, make me an offer.....
-
Thanks will look at that. OK, I think I have figured it out...
-
Thanks, useful, but maybe I did no explain clear enough.....I can keep the AoA right, but this means more throttle as the 30 knots headwind is turning my 125 knots airspeed into 90 knots. This in turn cause the jet to go high, so although I am on speed or nearly on speed, the jet is rising relative to the glideslope. So far and bear in mind I have not had masses of time on this, the only way I am finding to get the jet down onto the glideslope is put the stick forwards, which then screws the AoA & increases speed etc etc........It works but its really messy and I just feel that its not correct.....
-
Lord knows why, but I have decided to try my hand at landing the tomcat in worse weather than the standard missions. I have plenty of improving to do in that situation anyway, but i guess I am a glutton for punishment. I am using 30 knots wind and the carrier ( Forrestal) at 20knots into the wind. I have discovered that this (obviously!!!) makes a huge difference to how you fly the approach. my biggest issue is that its almost impossible for so far to keep any semblance of being on speed, if I do, the jet just wants to fall out of the sky. If I increase the throttle to stop this, I go high..... Can any of you salty old Tomcat pilots help out with some tips?

HI Nealius, firstly thanks for this! Could I ask a favour. Have just a long time downloading all the required mods to go with this and there is a LOT of work involved with installing them all correctly....I hope I have done it right, but there are no instrcutions for many and its very confusing.... An example of my confusion: You list the S3 skins by USC taylor as required. when the downlaod is unpacked, its clear these are skins for the earlier linked VSN A6A mod, as in the file structure you get, it goes: New S3 Viking skins/mods/aircraft/VSN_A6A/liveries/VSN_A6A/ and then the individual livery folders. The S3 is a DCS root folder mod, as its skins for teh standard DCS S3 model in the main DCS folder, yes? So why is it installing to a VSN mod A6A which installs to the saved games folder? I am confused....... Can you also confirm, the VSN mods should be installed as follows: Saved games/ Mods/Aircraft/VSN A-6A (For example) . So then liveries for this mod should be installed as follows: Saved games/ Mods/Aircraft/VSN A-6A/Liveries/VSN_A6A/and then the individual livery folders. Correct? Could you post the correct file structure breakdown for the various mods / skins and where they should go? ? it would really help. Thank you so much!
