Help regarding TADS operation and sights / aquisition source
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I think I have it - there is another post here about an issue with shift modifiers. My Controller relys on a lot of those and it had become un modified....so I was pressing the correct buttons, but the commands were not registering........ Thanks for the suggestions as thery made me double check my bindings! thanks all -
Help regarding TADS operation and sights / aquisition source
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: AH-64D
@ Greeny - Thx, can you clarify? The IAT switch has 2 settings, IAT & OFC, I have both mapped and they are momentary, If I press either, nothing changes. @Admiki, defintely selecting TADS as sight , have it bound on my controller -
So doing some player as CPG practice as its been ages and found once I had switched to TADS that I could not slew the view using my bound microstick on the controller I use for the TEDAC. Nothing I did seemed to sort it out, what are the circumstances where this can happen and why? I tried slaving, everything. Its probably something stupid I have overlooked, as I say, its been a while since I tried player as CPG. I am thinking its maybe to do with the aquistion source, ( it was on FXD) but options in that did not have anything such as CPG TADS etc to choose.... Wathed some Youtube guides - I think I need to have TADS showing in the bottom left of the TADS screen, but nothing I do seems to make this happen..... Any tips?...Thanks

Quest Pro all the way. Fantastic quality lenses, eye tracking ( big deal as you can get a large performance bump from using QVFR) Super comfortable as it does NOT clamp on your face like a scuba mask and runs very well on less than top end rigs ( see my specs) My DCS runs butter smooth 90% of the time, at a very happy locked 36FPS with ASW, and the clarity is just incredible. You wont be dissapointed, trust me. I use this charging cable with no issues: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BDKJ8DSF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have a buddy who just upgraded and he is getting, Quote: " It will be a blast in 2D, VR sucks at the moment. Changed WMR setting from 150% to 100% which gave me an additional FPS up to 60 FPS and smooth gameplay, but only with DLSS + DLAA (5.2 sharpening). Cockpit is blurry and outside views mwah. With WMR set to 70% and MSAA 2x more or less the same result slightly better cockpit, not great outside views. It seems that DCS doesn’t use the right (3D) cores. Up to so far no solution found. Sorry not the best message and I’m pretty disappointed so far." Is there anything he should know regarding getting the best from this CPU for DCS and any other tips? He is running a G2 and as I said to him: " I simply cannot understand whats going on here. I used to run in VR with my G2 perfectly acceptably at around 60 FPS with great clarity, using 150% on my 5900/3090/64gb machine. I changed to using a Quest pro on same machine and it runs great, I use the G2 on my older PC, 9900/2080ti/32gb and it will manage a good 40 ish fps generally and still looks clear and OK. I know this is not much help, but I dont think the machine specs are the issue, something is not right somewhere......" Any help appreciated

Update: In this video and the comments after, Casmo discusses this. Basically, trim still needed to recentre the SAS. In the light of that, perhaps I should fine tune the question to the following: What sort of manouvres are going to need the SAS recentering and is there a need to be trimming all the time, as advocated on some guides, or to hold the trim while manouvering ? Bear in mind with a sprung joystick, yes you would neeed to trim as advised, due to it recentering itself - I am talking specifically about my situation with a springless joystick. I have tried to dig a little deeper into how the SAS works in the situation we are discussing and came up with this from Bradmick: "The helicopter SAS will “saturate” over time and run out of authority. The green plus signs will tell you where the SAS is with regards to its “authority”. You can’t just trim it and leave it permanently there. As the FMC commands the SAS to respond to exterior stimuli while trying to maintain a stable hover or a desired or commanded attitude, it will use the SAS authority it has available to it and eventually run out of it. To return full SAS authority you have to recenter the SAS servo. To recenter the SAS and return it’s authority to maximum, you have to press and hold the force trim release switch for 3 to 5 seconds to recenter the SAS. Based on your description you allowed the SAS to saturate and it can no longer help you maintain a stable position." So, in the light of that response, I guess in theory, the answer to my question would be that you would, rather than trimming all the time, simply re set the SAS servo when it requires, which would be indicated by the SAS saturated message? Incidentally, some intersting discussion inthe thread where I lifted Bradmicks answer from, here: Thanks all for input on this interesting subject.

All, thanks for the replies - I should add that I have indeed read many threads and watched many videos regarding this. I was asking as when I fly without using the trim button, I dont have any issues. Occasionally, I will get a SAS saturated, but it generally goes away. I have tried flying and trimming as you describe above, but I could not really notice any difference. Hence the post. Not disputing the necessity, or what you are all telling me - I guess the question then becomes I wonder why I am not noticing any degradation in the flight experience when not trimming .....? @Tepnox -can you detail what "fighting the SAS" might feel like and manifest as ? When I pick the aircraft up from a hover, I really have very little input - maybe a tiny bit of right pedal and back cyclic. What does trimming at this point do? And how does that manifest in what I feel? As without trimming I can happily sit there in a nice stable hover. If I trim, it seems to make no difference. I have all my controls mapped and when flying, trty and remember to trim, but often, it slips your mind.....in these situations, nothing bad happens......? I spent 30 minutes watching trim videos from Casmo, Bradmick & Redkite this morning, but confess I still dont feel how it relates to my flying experience. I will re watch! Who has the most current and relevant you tube vid? As I feel a lot has changed in various updates ...... And in the same vein, any good articles and reading on force trim and the SAS system? Both the Chucks guide and quick start don’t seem to cover it….or I have not been able to find it in them……

So I use a Virpil CM3 dry clutch joystick, set so the clutches hold the stick in whatever position I move it to. My rudder pedals are teh same, MFG crosswinds, with a damper and springs removed. I have both pedals and controls set to the "FFB No springs" option in the Special page. With this set up, I can operate the aircraft perfectly well without ever using the force trim release button. However, all the SME videos all say you should trim, trim, trim, all the time. Is this only because they are using centering sprung joysticks ? Or does the module require constant trimming , as in reality within DCS, because of teh way it is simulated? In my specific scenario, I question the point of using the force trim button as my controls hold themselves where I put them......Is this right or wrong and what benefit would I get from using the force trim ? I understand pressing it disconnects the SAS & SCAS, but generally, this would not be required, correct?

DCS Open Beta Server authentication Failed
markturner1960 replied to Spartan111sqn's topic in General Bugs
OK, using the .exe in the bin folder of the server install does not work. If I understand correctly, you are saying un install current version of DCS server and install the modular version? -
Hi, I have 2 PC's, one is my main PC, with my jets sim pit on it, the other is my old PC, which I have set up as my Helo sim pit PC. I installed DCS server on the older number 2 PC, initially to try running DCS liberation on it to offload work from the main PC. I have had DCS server installed and working on the number 2 PC alongside the normal DCS installation for several months. This just started happening after I updated to the last big update.

Hi Flappie, thx, tried, that, no joy. I downloaded and ran the updater clean up and repair batch files from your link from the main DCS server folder. Still have the same issue. attached requested log file. thank you autoupdate_log.txt

Hi, i recently updated my DCS server instal, had not used it in a while. I now have issues with it updating, or running the update checker and also starting if I simply go to the DCS.exe in bin folder. If I use the updater, it errors saying it cant find DCS.exe (2) If I click diretc on the DCS.exe, then it gets a sfar as the new "15 years of DCS" splashscreen, then after about 10 seconds stops, without generating an error message etc. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Are these exactly duplicated for front and rear seat? Talking about the cyclic and collective specifically, thanks If not, what are the differences please? I guess in reality, the CPG would be primarily using the TEDAC and cockpit panels and not touch the cyclic or collective unless he had to take control of the aircraft for whatever reason? So the TEDAC would contain some switches from the collective grip such as the sight select switch, so he does not have to touch the collective as well? What switches are double up on the TEDAC from the cyclic and collective grips? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Greeny - I had seen those, most involve home made 3D printed replicas, my query was specific to using existing available items, and the problems associated with connection and mounting these to make a viable unit. For example, anyone know where I could buy one of these?
-
I was thinking that it may not be too difficult to make one of these utilising readily available kit. Specifically, a left and right hand virpil alpha grip and a winwing screen and bezel for the display…….. The two main issues would be fabricating a mount for them. I imagine something 3D printed? And a tidy connection / mount for the grips. Any of you clever guys here got any ideas for how to do this?

Hi, this seems to have changed since I last flew the AH-64D, now seems tied to top and bottom of the IHAADS display, which is not great, especially the target list as this is difficult to see against the cockpit. Can this be changed?

Couple small issues with radios F1EE
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, but not only is the freq not displayed, it’s not set 0n the radio………so that’s a problem. Although I am mystified why the pre set freq cannot be shown in the modules? -
Hi, whats the folder name required to get kneeboards into this aircraft please?

A really really big plus point the quest pro has over all the others that no one has mentioned, is the fact it does not clamp on your face like a scuba mask, which all the others do. I have 2 rigs and 2 headsets - quest pro and a G2 and the pro is so much more enjoyable to use. Plus you can see out from under to use hardware and sim pit. I love my quest pro.

Hi trying to learn using templates. I have several static templates and have made a folder called this and placed it in my saved games folder, also in the mission editor folder in saved games. In the editor, when I go load the template, the GUI box that pops up is unpopulated, so I obviously dont have teh templates in the correct place. What is teh correct place please? I have just spent 30 minutes watching through various tutorials on youtube, none of which helped..... thanks

Hi, had first flight as a rear seater today and had some issues with controls which although properly bound, did not work. For example, canopy lock open / close and canopy open toggle. These work fine via the mapped buttons on my sim pit and HOTAS from the front seat, but not in the rear. Same with the various controls for the nose wheel steering. There may be others, I did not test exhaustively All of these work fine if you mouse them. Why is this?

Thanks guys, its clear now!!

Hi as title, Combat Flaps - We have 2 bindable controls, combat flap lever and combat flap button. Please can someone explain the difference, when and how to use them ( In combat I guess.......?) and why there are 2 different controls? I have looked in the manual but could find anything under flight controls, before anyone suggests I am being lazy..........
