Well to be brutally honest, You can use it to a degree at night time with NVG and altering the Shkval brightness and contrast you will be able to make out shapes at distance. Not enough to positively identify, but you can spot them. You won't get a lock, but if they are stationary you can keep your laser on them manually and get a kill. It takes a keen eye and a bit of a slight touch and some fiddle with the schkval, but it can be done. Its not a great option, and as everyone else said, its best to use illumination.

Compatibility Patch & Missing features of the Ka-50
bogusheadbox replied to STP Dragon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have always used step 3. But i can't remember if it works without it. I was sure you had to.... But to be honest not been in the shark for a bit now and i am starting to doubt myself. -
front wheels turn sideways on the shark
bogusheadbox replied to Reb's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I understand what you are trying to say panzer. but i am still not 100 percent convinced. I have flown a few different types of fixed wing aircraft with castering nosewheels. And rocking the aircraft does not move the nose wheel. Also i can use the same shopping trolly analogy - - i can get a shopping cart and whilst taking great care to ensure no forward or backward movement i can tip it sideways quite dramatically and the grounded wheel will not rotate whilst the one airborne will. Though any slight forward or backward movement will allow it to rotate significantly. I still beleive that the rear (main gear) whilst locked and not allowing forward, backward or rotational movement will prohibit the nosewheel from turning despite the "tipping" moment provided. -
front wheels turn sideways on the shark

Surely with brakes on at start up the main wheels locked will stop the rotation and hence the turning of the front wheel? -
Hello guys, After a long period away, i am back on again and its great to be back in the shark. Shook off a bit of rust last night in MP and great to see so many servers still running. So anything new in the BS world ?
-
Well lets hope that some of the omissions - bugs are dealt with at the same time as the compatability patch
-
Do we know if BS will get the graphical updates?

Ahhhh there is plenty of smoke from the first destroyed vehicle to make a good mark  I do agree that they are very good value. But call me strange, I have had a tendency to be a stalker lately and drop all rockets for inboard fuel tanks. She is heavy on take off, but the endurance is fantastic. Its such a pleasure to fly that i like to take my time and having the extra fuel has paid off for me on many occasions. Especially in the dynamic missions. -
Correct me if i am wrong, but going from my limited knowledge of concreting. Concreting has limitations when doing large sections. the reinforcement and setting times means that it is easier to concrete in small sections than one large section. (or it could be that i am just pants at concreting ;-) )

Best bit is to search on this in the forums. There are lots of topics on this and how to achieve it and loads of information. Basically for high flight you will need to keep a set forward speed. You may/will need ice protection systems on and watch your aircraft weight. A lot of the posts i mentioned will have speeds that have worked out for individuals and some go into great detail (its too late for me, sorry, so no long explanation.) Happy flying.

I think a school is a great idea. However i have a few suggestions. Instead of training on own server, conduct the training on a popular server (therefore server maps will have to have training slots for planes) The benefits of this are 1. Increased traffic at air bases making them feel alive (brinigng the community together) 2. When they learn to fly and taxi it will teach new players the respect for propper taxi technique (not taking off on taxi ways) and teach them to respect traffic flow and slot in to what can be a busy base. 3. A training flight can then follow an active flight and bug out early to taste a little of nav and radar awareness ( i beleive you have to have a level of threat here to make sure they respect the danger areas). 4. It will encourage team play and squad flight. I personally would love to fly back to a base and see co-ordinated flight between 2 ship and greater. Especially when black shark is merged, then that would be even better as the airport could also host training to helos, where those that are ready to mix it up could transfer to a helo at a farp. Just my idea

Saitek rudders here and i like them quite a lot. Had them for some time now and they have been faultless. Have good spacing between pedals too.

Wingman detected target - how to locate it?
bogusheadbox replied to yonyz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well lets hope that a A-10 compatability patch is not too far away. You should see a lot of servers popping up then. -
Wingman detected target - how to locate it?
bogusheadbox replied to yonyz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No problem. Datalink is a very useful tool. I only fly online so it comes into its own there. Just a few tips for use online (if you have the time). Make sure you ask if someone wants a datalink target. If only one person wants it, just ask them or confirm their datalink number and send info to only that number. That way people won't be spammed with loads of datalink. I do see people flying with datalink off for this reason. (which is a shame as it really is a useful tool and can help all players with situational awareness) Also i forgot to mention. Make sure you are on the correct frequency -

RAM HIM !!!!! ok maybe not. -
Attacking armored vehicles with the gun
bogusheadbox replied to yonyz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If i can also add. Agree don't use gun against tanks. Secondly your gun is accurate over 3klms. If in a pinch you can spam at long range (with a wide grouping of rounds) at 4 klms. For this engage manual fire. I find that 3.5 klms is about the max rage you are quite accurate at, after that the accuracy degrades quickly. -
Wingman detected target - how to locate it?
bogusheadbox replied to yonyz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
May be a couple of extra button pushes in here but its the way i do it IIRC First its a good idea to save target. Press mem Then i press schkval reset. If you are in a hover, ensure you have auto turn to target pressed. on the datalink panel ensure your target is chosen (if its a vehicle press vehicle button) ensure it shows up as a flashing icon on ABRIS Press uncage schvkal and it should put you on target or very close to target. Lock lase and shoot. There is a very good dev video diary that describes this as well for you to watch. -
@ Nate, I have trawled through the 7 pages of my post and listed confirmed bugs (wishlists and rants removed). Sent to you by PM. Hope that helps.
-
Nate, There have been many threads (including one i have started) that define a lot of bugs. Problem is that they can never be a concise list as people inevitably post wish lists instead of bugs. Here is a link to mine http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61696

We will get (if patched in line with dcs a-10) the forward air controller ability. The FAC options will do sort of what you are asking. Alternatively you could make a trigger that when your AI or any other objects gets within a certain distance of a target / area that a voice and written text will come up informing of a new target and co-ordinates. Then the lucky pilot can plug that into abris as a target point.

Well it may be 101, but no one said it and its pretty important to negate the problem the original poster was talking about Unless you are in a hurricane (exaggerated example) you Will get a firing authorisation every time if trimmed correctly. (unless target is out of range) Number 1, i said for me personally. So that is fine if you don't want to use it or recommend it. Number 2, with manual fire i am always certain of a hit. I know by memory at what ranges i can hit a target with a particular weapon. I know that with vihkers i can shoot out side the circle by a dfined amount and still get missile on target (good for a quick shot). I know that i can safely fire again before cool down cycle for a set period of seconds without causing damage (good for shoot and run tactics where cool down can be in effect whilst egressing) etc. etc. The only time i am not certain of a hit. Is when i am uncertain or know there is a threat in the target area that may negate the black sharks stand off capability. In manual mode i can squeeze that a few extra kilometers out for a good chance of a hit without endangering myself. I am glad you have over 1000 hours on the black shark. Perhaps a few thousand more and you will remember the limitations of your weapons :smilewink: (that was a friendly dig) So, like i said earlier. Its a preference. But knowing that i can extend the capabilities of the effectiveness of my weapons in manual fire has worked very well for me..... Personally.

Not sure if its modelled in game. However in real life, opening cross feed should only be done once you are sure you do not have a fuel leak. Otherwise you will loose your good fuel. A certain airliner did this and ended up gliding to the azores.
-
Well as no-one else has mentioned it.......... One of the reasons is that you are not trimmed accurately in the regime you are engaging target at (e.g. current forward velocity or hover). The autopilot then will be fighting against the yaw tendancy of the helo. If you are trimmed properly you will always get a good firing solution on target with auto-turn every time. Realistically though, a lot of times you will not have the opportunity (or perhaps a better word is LUXURY) to fine tune your hover or flight for that perfect trajectory, so yes the rudders is the quick and usefull option. That being said though, your grouping of rounds on target will be significantly widened the less stabilised you are when firing on target. Personally, i can only recommend that if you have time, ensure you are trimmed correctly. That way if you are scanning a large area, you know if you slew on a target the gun will be able to fire on it. Also personally, i always fly with manual fire on. You will find that most weapons operate quite effectively outside of the constraints given by the computer and its associated firing parameters (except cannon lateral deflection - that is a mechanical limitation). And i agree with others posted above. Aside from the Vihker, the cannon to me is the next most versitile and deadly weapon on the KA-50. I often dump rockets for fuel tanks. Though i have not used at all gun pods yet (not sure if there is a need with such a devasting gun)

Has anyone tried ramming them ? Would / should the tank survie a high speed collision

Now i didn't know that.
