PAYING for black shark 2 I can say that i am not 100 percent fully happy with this. In fact i am bordering on being freking p1ssed. I am all for supporting ED. But i don't want to pay for product x, then product y then pay again for patch z which is supposed to make x and y work together (as we were expecting this from the start. So what happens when the next flyable is released. DO we then have to pay to patch both BS and a:10. Add another flyable, do we then have PAY to patch BS, A:10, the not yet named new release to the latest release. I have to say, this pretty well sucks and does not make me want to buy every version of the game As more flayables are released we will just have an ever increasing exponential costs just to make them all work together. I may as well stop buying all the flyables and every 5 years buy the latest one and get the best out of it. Not to mention it will seriously divide the flying community.:cry_2::furious:

If someone made that mod, maybe people would stop asking for A2A missiles on the Black shark

It is, it so is....... but you know how much we would love to have it in game and throw a big finger up at the apache:thumbup:
-
I couldn't disagree more.
-
The mechanism for trimming may be different but what its trying to achieve is exactly the same.
-
Becuase i love single seat aircraft and i don't want to share with anyone else  Russians should have known what I want and adjusted their military to suit.:megalol:

Horses for courses, use the trimming method you are comfortable with. I don't use the hold trim button method. I use the same method in game as i do with a real aircraft. Select (desired attitude) Hold (desired attitude - only for a very short time to stop oscilations of craft) Trim (and trim constantly for any power, pitch or heading change) Works a treat for me. But that is me. ----------------------------- As something totally different, i know a few people when starting to learn the KA would trim intially for the hover and leave it at that. They would just work the stick for forward flight leaving the aircraft trimmed for hover when they needed to stop so there is no messing about with the trimmer. Worked great for them. I don't do it, but its just a point that you need to do what feels right for you and works for you.

Turning water down is the biggest thing for my modest rig as water is rendered under the terrain. I am looking forward to the new patch but also not looking forward to it as most likely the new patch will force me to upgrade :-( Feel my pain <tears>

Did you not hear. That is the next DCS flyable. The Black shark mark 2 !!!:helpsmilie:

OK, Just an update - to help prompt any helpful responses. Last night i was on one of my usual servers with ping under 100. Unfortunately i received the same server ping time out message after about 20 mins gameplay. I then switched to a server with a larger ping (104th IIRC) and no ping time outs whatsoever. I am a little confused. Any help would be appreciated as i do like playing on the other servers. Regards, Bogus.
-
I have been getting this pretty consistently lately usually after about 30 - 40 minutes of gameplay. And its quite upsetting to do a long ingress or doing well in game to be thrown out from multiplayer. The servers i join usually have pings under 200 and last night was a server with a ping under 100. I am pretty sure its my computer but any information you can give about it will help a lot. I know my computer is old and has a memory leak - (that i have not been able to rectify) Windows xp SP3, asus A8nSLI mobo, AMD 4000+cpu, Asus 6800ultra graphics card, and 3 gig ram. Internet is a good speed (unsure of actual speed - but streaming movies is no problem). Its a shared internet network with a business that is not there at night time (when i play) so unsure if there is scheduled load from their end that during the night that may cause this. Anyway, any information on server ping time out would be appreciated. Its not everytime, but its pretty common for me now. Regards, Bogus [edit] I did notice some stuttering in game before i got the message last night. Maybe its time for re-install ?

i beleive regardless of waiting, if you try to move or take off with comms still selected to "ground" you will get a grumpy voice over intercom.

Misquote is the magazine possibly? Anyway still impressive.

Just reading in August's edition of pilot a nice article on the F15 Of particular note it mentions air to air kill ratios throught the 15's lifespan. Here is the ballsy part...... An f15 strike eagle (not used for air to air) scored an air to air kill on an Iraqi Mi-8 (helicopter) using a laser guided bomb ! Now that's a ballsy decision by the pilot and possibly slight overkill on the amount of explosives needed to bring down the chopper. Does not mention if it was a direct hit or due to explosion radius.... So to keep this on toipic, anyone tried using laser bombs on slow moving aerial targets?

Well please define these red herrings. I am honestly interested at how often / needed are instrument approaches with helicopters.
-
Well maybe its time to mention trees again?

Thanks GG Any info yet on patch for BS? Cheers. -
Just wondering, as its been a while now - is there any planned developments for collidable trees ? The last time i played, some clever cloggs put a sam in the middle of a forest. not nice to see a missile (at close range) come burling through dense trees. Also, Bug with magnetic variation OAT temp guage Bug with engine start sound etc. Is there a list being built for the upcoming BS patch ? Regards,

How future DCS iterations should look like

does it have collideable trees~? that is something severely lacking in dcs. nothing worse than watching a sam come flying at you through dense forest. not ver realistic -
Ok, so in respect of keeping a minimum speed, needed for either engine failure or to keep from transitioning to hover where contolability issies may be in effect.... That i can understand. However, how common are instrument approaches flown by helicopters. To be brutally honest, with GPS with moving map, rad alt, auto pilot, flight director (and without emergencies dictating the necesity for forward flight) I can't really see the need to fly an instrument approach in DCS. Especially not when you think about cat 1 ops which give a decent altitude where you are expected to go visual anyway.
-
Agreed, steel beasts is the way to go if you want a tank simulator.

Instrument proceedures are based on categories and those categories are based on approach speeds. Yes you can do an instrument approach in a helo, but why would you need to. You know where the beacon is, you know the MSA you can go down to before go-around. If you are really in a pinch, you can fly directly to airport or beacon and hover down until MSA. We have instrument approaches for other aircraft as they can't hover so need a protected track to which they can safely approach the airfield in forward motion down to applicable minimas. Here is another example (showing my age here as i am taking this from my old PPL days so lets hope i get it right), lets take VFR flight for fixed wing and helicopters under 3,000 feet, class g airspace. For a fixed wing flying under 140 knots its a minimum of 1500m visability clear of cloud, in sight of surface. For a helo it was just clear of cloud in sight of surface. There is no need for a minimum distance to visability due to the reason that a helicopter can hover or move at such low speeds that all it needs is to be able to see the ground to operate safely. Ok, i hear you asking... You mentioned VFR, we are talking about instrument approches. I am not IFR rated helo, but the same would apply. You can fly at such a low speed that you can descend in a safe area to minimas (well until you can see the ground) then carry on in virtually 0 forward visability. I am IFR rated for fixed wing aircraft and i can't for the life of me see the need for wasting fuel on an insturment approach, be it vectored or proceedural in a helo when they can move at such low speeds and hover. Unless of course the airfield in question is so full of hazards, that a instrument approach is needed

1> Make sure you have the facilities available to repair/rearm at the base or farp you have landed at. 2> Switch comms to ground or open door 3> press # for comms menu 4> select f10 5> select load out. 6> return comms to 1 and 2 before take off (as ground guy will be pissed off when you take off)

My question to you is.... why would there be a need to DO an ILS in a helicpter?
-
Forgot to mention. If you are new to trackIR, bobbleheading is a normal occurance. You will in time naturally learn to keep your head still. (unless you are headbanging whilst shooting vihkers) Or have a twitch. Or in an earthquake Or being mugged
-
You know, i have owned and operated TrackIR for umpteen years and (even with trackIR5 software) I have not seen any settings for "dead zones". However there is one thing that can help you out. One of the function keys (E.g. f12 by default centralises your view) may be of some use, going by memory here so the Fkey may be wrong you will need to experiment. I think F9 pauses tracking. If you are looking in a certain direction you can press this to pause tracking so your head can bobble as much as you like and you keep looking stright ahead (or the direction you were looking in at the time). Then when you wish to look around, you press it again to unpause. Alternatively I think its f8 - is a button that slows and smooths the movement of trackir. If you bobble head is of small movements and you are not headbanging out while shooting vihkers, then this button may be of use as well. Give it a go and let me know if it helps. If this helps, you may be able to bind these function to your stick for quick operation.
