At least you HAVE flir. My TGP, DMT and Maverick are totally blank in 2.5.

I've gotten a lot of "mission kills," in which the Sidearm seems to knock out the radar
-
It's a known bug. Worse, it causes your plane to take on the weight of a seemingly endless supply of fuel, without actually being able to burn, dump, drop or otherwise get rid of it! XD I've got a video kicking around somewhere of me testing that issue out. I was at 95% throttle, pulling 14 degrees of AoA, just to keep up with and stay connected to the tanker.

[Video] Promo vid for VVMA-231
MustanGrande replied to MustanGrande's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks! -
I was recently approached to put together a promotional vid for our Harrier squadron. It's been through 5 or 6 iterations, but I'm finally happy enough with it to turn it loose.

I was the noob pilot! lol We decided to do some DACT training, and I got to be the adversary. Lessons were learned: Do not overshoot unless you see a wing come flying off. Made for a good highlight reel though.

Ever been shot down by a plane you've just shot down? :megalol:
-
And in the "Making it harder than it needs to be" category, we have...
-
You should also mind your Gs. Any high-lift/G-heavy maneuvers will cause your center of lift, (the spine of the plane) to try and pivot around your center of gravity. (Which will be offset towards the heavy wing.) Also, try to make any turns into the lighter wing if possible.

Very cool. Is that currently implemented in the sim? the only waypoint indication I've ever seen in the hud is the line on the heading tape.
-
What's the ring that appears on the end of the runway when the pilot is on approach? It almost looks similar to the indication of a Maverick in boresight mode, but it's clearly ground-stabilized.
-
If I had known this sooner, it would have saved me so much headache.

Have you tried aerial refueling in this particular mission? There is currently a bug in which trying to refuel drop tanks will result in "ghost weight" that isn't reflected on the fuel indicator, and can neither be burned nor dumped. That bug sent me into the drink a couple times before I recognized it.
-
Ah, yes. I think this is the same bug. Sorry for the duplicate thread.

I slapped some drop tanks on via the ground crew, and went up to attempt some AAR. For some reason, the fuel quantity climbed to 7700, and then just... stopped. I tanked and tanked and tanked and tanked, and got heavier and heavier until I could barely stay airborne, but the tanker did not realize I was full, and my indication would not increase. I eventually drank-up the KC-130s entire fuel load.

I'm also of the mind that it's probably a weight issue. That said, it's also been mentioned that extended time within the RPM or Jet Temperature danger zones can degrade engine performance and reduce its ability to maintain a hover. So, if you're spending a lot of time rocketing around while that "R" or "J" flashes in the bottom left corner of the hud, that could be a contributing factor.

I've recently begun fooling about with external tanks. However, they seem to have a bad tendency of spiraling the Harrier uncontrollably towards the ground at low speeds. Particularly after a long flight. The tendency is always a roll to the left that is trimmable at speed, but which quickly becomes impossible to correct as speed decreases. Full right stick and full right trim are not enough to counteract the condition. The only new variable in my loadout being the tanks, I'm assuming that I'm drawing from the right, but not the left. Is there some sort of selector/pump/crossfeed that I'm most likely missing? Is it a bug? Am I just crazy? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

For some reason, my pitch ladder, gun sights, CCIP pippers, TVV, boresight and all other "central" symbology from the hud have all gone AWOL. The LUA fixes in the stickied thread didn't fix the problem, and the DCS updater won't even let me roll back my version. :crash: In the meantime, is it possible to duct tape an aimpoint to my dash, to give me some sort of reference?

[RESOLVED]TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR MISSING LINES IN HUD
MustanGrande replied to Zeus67's topic in AV-8B N/A
Same here. Missing just about everything that actually matters on the hud, despite downloading and installing the fix. :no_sad: Gonna try the version roll back. -
The A-10C may have some complex systems, but it's a remarkably stable and forgiving plane to fly. Landing is particularly easy, as the various systems involved pretty much remove all of the guesswork. The TVV shows you exactly where your plane is going. The AOA indicator lets you know whether or not you're on-speed. Between the two, VFR becomes a breeze. As for the rest, just walk into them gradually. Tackle the various advanced topics one by one as you go.

In addition to the above resources, Bunyap Sims' "On the Range" playlist is full of useful tutorials on various topics. Also, the Basic, Advanced, and Tactical qualification videos by Recon Stewart can be very informative. The missions he's running are the Maple Flag campaigns of the same name.

Made my first attempt at AAR today...
MustanGrande replied to MustanGrande's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yeah. The biggest enemy seems to be Pilot-Induced Oscillations. Need to get that "buck fever" under control. :joystick: -
