I didn't get that impression. It is very clear to us (well me, at least) what you said. No one here expects to count blades, or see a fully black rotating propeller (no opacity). Please compare images from post #54 and with #28.

While I do agree with your post (crappy early prop animation mods for IL2'46 anyone?), I can not but wonder about its purpose since we have in several posts here already established that props in general look great in DCS, even on P-51. The solely problem being that side view, which really is hard to miss when looking at the external model. Now, having seen a P-51 taxi very close to me earlier this year, and knowing about this bug for a long time now, I have payed special attention how the prop looks like in real life. The camera and YT links here (again, not talking about propeller camera distortion from any other view that 90°) only back this up. In other words, if P-51 prop is correct, than all others are wrong since animation on the said prop is different than others when viewed from 90° side. If other two prop jobs aren't enough, take a look at the HUEY for instance. Even tail rotor shows clear variations in pitch when manipulating rudder.

In addition to pictures posted here in this thread, take a look at these videos (preset to start at the moment prop is visible from 90° side): http://youtu.be/-RPZ0aORvYw?t=33s Now compare all this with what we have in-game, already posted here and clearly visible in post #28. No matter the camera shutter speed or ISO settings, who ever saw a P-51 up close on an airshow can tell you the side 90° view the prop looks ridiculously thin. Even with a fine pitch, engine idling.

If you know of a better way of presenting evidence other than photographic way I am all ears. ;) Seriously though, even though I do not operate or fly a real Mustang I did see 4 of them taxiing past me in very close vicinity earlier this year at Duxford, and the prop looks nothing like we have in-game now. I am referring to the side / volumetric view. The rest is spot on.
-
Sure thing. Prop looks very realistic (i.e. perfect!) from pilots perspective - without reproducing how the camera captures it. Side / volumetric view, is a whole different matter though. No better than old '46 lol. Even more so when you take a look at how other props are visually modeled, from two other prop jobs to e.g. Huey.

Quoting myself here, to add a shot of idling animation with pitch lever fully forward in comparison with stopped engine:

@ ESA Maligno: the angle is off in your screens. A2A has a basic prop animation that works but is perhaps a bit exaggerated. This thread I started a while a go covers what is wrong with the prop animation in DCS P-51D: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=132185 Not to mention it also provides insight how the prop pitch system works with some interesting links people have posted there. High speed, low speed or altitude the prop pitch barely changes thickness. It does, but frankly its negligible. Especially in comparison with 190 and 190 animations.

The term is "assembly ship". Retired bombers were used in these roles.

By far the biggest difference for me, when TO with Dora, is not to continuously manipulate the throttle. Do not slowly and continuously keep advancing it throughout the TO. Instead, advance it in stages. Continuous power increase produces increasingly difficult to control p-factor and yaw effects when the tail lifts. Especially if you are new to the plane. Give it a burst to start rolling, then when you have it under control, advance it further and keep it there until the tail lifts. Directional control shouldn't be a problem. When the tail is up, give her the beans and lift off. Gradually after you learn how she handles, you can slam it forward from the get go and TO without a problem every time.
-
@ GT 5.0: Have you tried full sick forward when applying small throttle bursts? There is an in cockpit video of G4 Red 7 taxing after landing and the pilot uses full sick forward in combination with throttle bursts to turn (in combination with manual prop pitch set to 11:45). Presumably to help ease the pressure on the tail wheel since German AC were so tail heavy in comparison to the western AC...

Minor adjustments needed, perhaps. It is still in beta IIRC. But after watching this video: And this one: https://youtu.be/IbeRn1rgoIo?t=8m57s I am inclined to believe they got it more or less right.

Agreed. Simple confirmation that they may look into it again would suffice for the time being.

Sounds great. +1 for the elliptical wings. :)

Planes visibility and smooth online gameplay in DCS 2.0?
[DBS]TH0R replied to Kwiatek's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
What is interesting is that DCSW2 solution is in some ways similar to the old IL21946 one, and we will be even able to mess around with how effective it is. :) Not only that, it will work for ground units as well. I am eager to see what kind of improvements we will have when for instance the plane is facing toward you and has the ground in the background (currently the most difficult situation to spot nearby planes in DCSW1). Yup, anything else is speculation at this point. -
This report was already posted here. P-51 in it was in very rough shape and had engine problems. P-47 had its turbocharger removed, and exhaust lines re-routed. Not very representative.

HOLY SAITEK THROTTLE QUADRANT (TM Warthog mod)
[DBS]TH0R replied to Foka1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It didn't even occur to me to try that out. Thanks for sharing. :) Do you mean only two screws can be used? IIRC the holes on the quadrant are spaced apart like a rectangular. -
Yeah, I found that funny too. Perhaps he answered a question about 109 referring to never using full brakes, then talked about 190 and village landing. Eagerly waiting for part 2. :)

Very interesting indeed. Thank you for this. Of course, I now have to go and attempt the "Californian one"... :D

Feedback and General Questions for Video Updates
[DBS]TH0R replied to Groove's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
For that to happen IMHO someone should read and filter out valid questions, then forward them to the streamer to answer. Or be on the same stream with him. That being said, I am more than happy with current stream coupled with Q&A before start. -

No offense but what exactly did you expect? a) it was announced it will be more or less the same as the first (test) stream b) the main purpose was to showcase the new map and engine (was even the title of the stream) In addition, we got some questions answered as well. Job well done IMO. -
Q: Is huge performance (FPS) drop when firing 6 .50s in P-51D fixed in DCS World 2? +1
