Cannot maintain level flight with maximum nose down trim
[DBS]TH0R replied to dok_rp's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
You need the extension cable to bridge the connection when installing the extension itself (mini DIN 5 PIN male and female connectors). Quite easy to do if you have even basic soldering skills (hell I did it myself). Without the extension Warthog is heavy for a prolonged use, in particular if you are doing any heavy maneuvering and using it on a desk. First of all it sits too high, then the spring strength is almost twice as powerful as any other stick. To get most out of it you need to center mount and extend it. Rule of thumb is 7-10 cm for fixed wing and 10-20 cm for helicopters. -
Feedback and General Questions for Video Updates
[DBS]TH0R replied to Groove's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks for this, I watched it with my squad over TS. Everyone enjoyed it. For the next time, could you please hit a tree with a heli? :music_whistling: That, and I love the implementation of object size / spotting issues some of us are having. Could we have some more info about it or example how it works in the next one (e.g. difference between off / normal / enlarged)? -

Correct. -
+1

Seconded. Probably the most comfortable ergonomic mouse I've ever used. My G700S also serves as a remote since my TV is hooked to the PC. Not to mention not having a cable when you're sitting in a simpit also makes things easier.

First the Spit, then Thunderbolt. Now Spit is in the lead again it seems. :) Thank you for the update and good luck with crushing the remaining show stopping bugs. If possible and when it is ready, I'd like to see some info on that MP GUI mentioned here. Transferring controls etc.

Planes visibility and smooth online gameplay in DCS 2.0?
[DBS]TH0R replied to Kwiatek's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Great post Klem. Seconded. DCS in WWII is in its current form, at best, prof of concept IMHO. From spotting problems to lack of proper map just to begin with. -

That! -
Without entering the prohibited discussion about other sims, the "other" one if you look closely also models heavy nose down trim from the moment you enter (spawn into) the plane. While I certainly will not use one sim as a proof, you will have to provide more evidence from "I've read about it" to dispute FM modeling / conclusion two experienced development teams have reached. ;) Seconded, for both the TO method and question.

Excellent! :smartass:

Looks like we may get DCS World 2 this year. Good news! [emoji41]

Best rudder pedals in DCS?
[DBS]TH0R replied to Pineapple Pete's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There are two basic pedal designs, one with your feet on the pedals and one with your heels on the floor. The later is sometimes referred to as the "combat pedals". Milan has planned and is still planning on producing a different "combat" pedal footplates for his MFG set, similar to the shape found in F-16. I presume he didn't yet get around to building them since he has so many orders (even had to hire extra help to cover all the orders). Existing owners of MFG pedals will be able to purchase these and simply unscrew the old ones and screw in the "combat" footplates. New owners will be able to select which ones they want from the get go. Perhaps if I'm lucky I will be able to get an early testing sample and share my impressions with you gents. EDIT: Heels on the floor footplates for MFG pedals are visible in the latest newsletter on his website. -
I like to see tracks to compare with my style of flying. Thanks, will check when I get home from work.

Which speeds and what power settings? I find +1 nose trim more than sufficient for TO. Can't remember which setting I used for cruising but IIRC somewhere between +1 and +2 was enough for me. Track, if you will, please.

By far the best visual effects movie, in large due to the fact CGI was kept to the minimum. Great acting and overall attention to details, while on the other hand simple and straightforward not trying to "re-invent the wheel". How action movies should be done. I respectfully disagree: - character progression or development is there (Nux being most obvious) - true, but not different from the first three (well perhaps in the first one he was a leading role, I'll have to watch it again) - similar to the second one (which this one resembles the most) - none of the first three had much in common except Mad Max (in the second and third one the same actor plays a different character who operates a flying machine) - agreed, infinitesimal amount of his car shots I recommend watching RedLetterMedia's review, pretty much spot.

It is funny looking back when I first tried the P-51. Thought to myself, this can't be right. All of that was due to not understanding how the machine works / needs and having it easy in previous sims. Nowadays for me the P-51 is easiest to TO, even when powering up to 61" from the get go. Same applies to landings. That is probably the best suggestion as far as TO goes. Try TO at a steady power and suddenly it becomes much easier. Sudden power changes require sudden directional control adjustments. If you are unused to them, the end result is obvious.

The 30 mm mess up the poor mustangs...

+1 One out of two times I got shot down by AI was prop pitch damage. Word! :smartass:

Mising ammunition type in the ammuniton belt
[DBS]TH0R replied to Solty's topic in Bugs and Problems
There are also accounts on pilots not loading tracer rounds - helps if you miss when jumping the opponent. :) +1 for belt customizations, but like convergence thread a while back - on historical level. -
It took me a while to find it as well. Well hidden from a normal view, and for those without a TIR you need to use those custom views.
-
I know it is possible and I did it on purpose, but never by accident - so far. That was what I was trying to say.

+1 Excellent idea.

To completely understand why he made that post, you need to know he doesn't think there is an issue with spotting in this sim. That being said, I don't think there was any major OT. Speaking of, I need to try that 9./JG27 modpack that helps overcome the issue before venturing again onto their server.
-
I was speaking from my own experience. I used to do only two pointers in all other sims. Only after trying out ED I began doing 3 point landings. The thread I linked earlier shows just that, what was possible to do in one sim, isn't necessary possible in another. Ergo - bad habits and need to adapt.
-
The trick is to let go of the bad habits learned from other / older sims. Or in other words stop pulling back on the stick when you touch down. Instead you should do the opposite - center it. For 130 kts it may be a bit too much, but as you pointed touchdown at 140-150 kts definitely helps. With practice 130kts touch down on two wheels is a no brainier. If you do encounter ballooning, either go around immediately or again, center the stick and let the plane settle down on its own. The biggest problem for me was knowing where the ground is. Once I knew what to expect and got the feeling of the ground below me - even ham fisting it on the runway with two wheels is possible. :) A video I made some time ago: Sure enough, there is a whole thread about it here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130956 Has anyone tried two pointers with a TF-51D? They are a lot easier. ;)
