Don't be so sad. Reading manuals is not that boring as it might look like. Not all parts are mandatory at the beginning. There are some history parts which can be skipped at the moment if you are impatient. In fact, if you are impatient and you know basics about flying, you can read just Combat Employment (pg. 506 +), and maybe some other mandatory details first. so you can destroy things right away :). After that you can study one by one system and study it into more details ie. Communications, Navigation, Emergency proc... When you pass all systems, and finish few campaigns, missions than come back to the Qualification Campaigns. I recommend you to learn start-up procedure first. This will introduce you to almost all important plane systems of the plane so you will know at least what you have and where it is. Also, lot of servers are demanding start from the ramp if you are interested to fly online.

1.2.16 Open Beta & Stable Branch Discussion
marluk replied to cichlidfan's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Where is 1.2.16.39472 update? USSR_Rik 30.04.2015 has announced Open Beta update 1.2.16.39472 but it has never advanced into release. Usually updates are not that long in beta phase. Check out the last post of this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=140468 It is small update but I'm particularly interested in one bug fix - FPS loss when cluster bombs use - fixed. Does anybody knows what is going on here? -
Looks like something is broken. What joystick/hotas you use? Maybe clean install without any mods will help to detect where is the problem.
-
Yes. Delete all view command assignments defined for your other game devices (other than TIR). Assign zoom command to some unused HOTAS axis if you have it. This should help. I assume that your zoom axes was by default assigned to the some HOTAS axis which was fully extended at startup.

Are you sure about 1%? I've gain impression that about half of simers here use TM Warthog. I didn't found any information about TM Warthog production or their next high end joystick but I heard rumors that it might be HOTAS for F-18 with grip compatible with TM Warthog. Knowing that ED is developing F-18, that might be true.
-
Currently, I'm avoiding unrealistic threat flying high. But your procedure seems like more fun. I'll give a try your way next time.

What binary version of Win you are running? 32 or 64 bit? ED does not support 32 bit version any more. Also, check RAM. If you have 6GB or more you should be fine. Check memory usage in Windows Task manager while using DCS. Close other applications while using DCS. Search the forum for exact location of the log file. I think it is saved in DCS folder in My documents. Did you install some of the mods? If so, try to uninstall them. Try to run repair of DCS product.

You could try The Enemy Within campaign. Very good missions. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=139279

Should I get Rudder "Feet" Pedals?
marluk replied to sethshark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
MFG or Slew Device rudders are class higher than this one. If you are really serious about sim flying and you can afford yourself quality gear I say go for it. It will be paid out :smilewink: -
I haven't actually try that but why not? SPI is SPI no mater how is defined.
-
All right, I believe there are situations when HUD as SOI is best option. I'll give it a try. Maybe for deploying CBU's...
-
1. COOLIE in the direction of TGP screen (long press), usually right. 2. SLEW on target. 3. TMS up short if you want point mode 4. TMS up long to make it SPI

Yes! I've noticed the same behavior. I flew one mission few days ago and there was one vehicle and many infantry units in radius about 200m. I've destroyed that vehicle with AGM-65D and expected that I will have to clean infantry with guns. I've got report that I've successfully killed all enemies. I've took a look, there was no one alive there. RTB. On the other hand I have to be very precise when firing on infantry with GAU8. I've noticed that very short burst is more efficient then longer one. If the first bullet miss, the others will also.

TM Warthog is replica, so there is no rudder controls on HOTAS like in real plane. What rudders have you ordered? I'm using MFG Crosswind and I'm very happy with it. http://mfg.simundza.com/mfgcrosswind.php Also, I heard that Slaw Device rudders are good. https://www.facebook.com/slaw.device/posts/329458753919136 I'm talking about TM Warthog class devices. ...and welcome to the TM Warthog community! :joystick:.

Almost fully loaded with ordnance, I touch 20k feet in Hog with no problem. Ok top speed is low, but SAM sites and supporting elements were blown away with CBU-105 just like that. :pilotfly: Some leftovers were cleaned with Mavericks and guns.
-
Great! You didn't make mistake. I always recommend those missions. But as I said in my previous post those are maybe little too advanced to start with from beginning. Don't let 'Basic' in Basic Flight Training mislead you :) . If you find it little too complicated don't get intimidated, take a look videos, fly missions, etc. and get back when you feel ready.

Should I get Rudder "Feet" Pedals?
marluk replied to sethshark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hihi yes, agree. Similar story on my side. I'm using TM Warthog with extension for year or so. Many times I've unscrewed it in the heat of battle. Of course it is not impossible, but it is very hard to fly because in different regimes you have to apply different amount of twist. That combined with very sensitive heli axis creates juggling experience. -
A-10C is not SEAD pane, nor it is very fast, therefore very vulnerable on SAM attack. In real life, I believe army sends other SEAD capable units to clear the area of the SAM sites before A-10's are coming. If there is moderate probability the enemy have SAM, there are F-16 or F-18 with AGM-88 standby to deal with them. But with MANPAD is different. They are hidden waiting for you and can easily avoid SEAD attack. Yesterday I flew a mission and I run directly on one MANPAD flying on low altitude preparing for gun run. Suddenly I saw SAM launch, turn hard left, release CM, then I turn hard right and return back in the line for gun attack. I fired and killed MANPAD and maybe some more enemy units. Later I was looking Tacview record and saw that I actually avoided two SAM's and killed MANPAD in the same run. I was so proud of myself. This was pure luck. Many times in similar situations I ended up dead. I'm not sure what exact RL procedure for MANPAD is, but I think it is 'hide and seek' game. Who first gain clean shot, winner. Probably A-10 pilot relay of other units to deal with MANPAD's or to report their location.

I'm using TM Warthog stick and I don't have any sensitivity issues. This is maybe obvious, but have you tried to calibrate joystick? How it looks when you check raw data input in Windows Game controllers dialog?
-
I'm primary using TGP. Not sure if this is the best way but here is my procedure: I'm looking through the HUD. There is TGP mark. First I center marker (C key). Looking through the HUD flying the plane to get the mark in proximity of the target and then start slewing. Slewing ground stabilizes TGP marker. Looking through the HUD, I slew TGP mark as close as possible to the target. After that I'm using TGP monitor. Therefore I don't see the point of using HUD as SPI.

There were many SAMs down there. After being shot down few times, I've decided to climb high, (around 20000 feet) and kill SAM's with GBU-12s and Mavericks from above. Then I went lower to finish the task. Anyhow, at high altitude wingman refuses to attack although he had mavericks. The same weapon worked correctly for me in the same condition. When we get lower he had no problem to attack. This is off-topic, but I think that missions with many SAM's are not very realistic. A-10C is not SEAD pane, nor it is very fast, therefore very vulnerable on SAM attack. In real life, I believe army sends other SEAD capable units to clear the area of the SAMs before A-10's are coming. If there is moderate probability the enemy have SAM, there are F-16 or F-18 with AGM-88 standby to deal with them. So, my opinion is that in real life probability that A-10C pilot is forced to attack SAM site is very very low. I understand, there can be exceptions, but generally there is maybe 5% chance or less this will happen.

Should I get Rudder "Feet" Pedals?
marluk replied to sethshark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Definitely! Get the pedals you will not regret. Also, my recommendation for MFD Crosswind. I have one and it is very reliable and precise. Unlike other equipment, for rudder pedals avoid commercial product from big company. Get it from small workshop like MFD or similar. They are much better. Plane is possible to fly without rudder pedals but helicopter is impossible.
