OK.... what the heck am I doing wrong? (radio issues)
Gate-5 replied to JughedJones's topic in MiG-21Bis
I've been experiencing the same in multiplayer recently. On some servers it works, on some it doesn't. -
Try the open Beta 1.2.12 for MI-8MTV2
Gate-5 replied to jeffdude's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Is this part of 1.2.12? Im confused... in the controls Rctrl-Rshift-P is bound to GMC, Astrocompas Mode :helpsmilie: -
Indeed, I just updated my non-beta version to 1.2.12.34915.571 and was abble to install the BF109 module...

Ah, didnt know there was something wrong with that too, so then its definitely referring something else.

Just did some more testing and something still seems to be very strange with that. As soon as the bridge blows up (triggered explosion), the units that were standing on the now destroyed part of the bridge are placed below the surface at an altitude of 0 feet. The path gets deleted as soon as the bridge is blown up. If a new path is set, very strange things happen, as can be seen in the following screenshot (never seen a 2D vulcan before :D). Units are flickering all over the place, on the bridge, in the water and below the map at 0 altitude. BUT, even though the placement seems to be all messed up, the units somehow manage to get across and follow the new given path, so at leas they didn't get completely stuck. I don't know if this special case was supposed to be fixed too. Anyways this is a huge improvement since it is possible to cross bridges without getting completely stuck.

Tested with AI convoy and they come to a halt as soon as the bridge is blown up. Didn't test how one would move on from there as ground commander with the group split up by the river.

I just dropped some 38s on the ESL server and they were off by 1-2m but still killed T-90s. Targets were designated by markpoint with laser on at distances below 8Nm and from attack heading. I'd have expected that they would fall a bit short because of the measurement to the front side of the targets but they were also off to the side. Maybe wind makes the difference, I'll do some trials when I have time.
-
By default you have to hold down the nosewheel steering while making the TGP your SPI with TMS forward long. I usually change the laser to "toggle" in the TGP menu, so I don't have to hold the button down all the time. To get maximum accuracy it is best to mark the targets from the same direction as the attack is performed. @WildBillKelsoe: They cant be rippled but dropped in one run ;). Just put down some markpoints over your targets, make your HUD SPI and quickly cycle to the next markpoint after each drop.

I like your commitment during landing even if 2/3 of the runway length has already passed before first touch down :pilotfly::thumbup:. Even after owning this module for quite a while now the expense on new main gear parts is quite high for me :music_whistling:.

I was able to hold mach 0.92 with 100% thrust at 10km altitude, payload was two R-60 and Kh-66. Also the plane is less twitchy during TO and landing, two-point landings work quite well now.

Thanks for clarification, interesting read . I hope there will be some tweaking once the more important things have been addressed.
-
Yeah, really seems like some strange initial values that cause it to overshoot. It only dampens the pilots inputs, which is what it actually should do. There's an "attitude hold" control you can (only) activate when stabilize is on, which is probably doing what you're looking for.
-
When I engage or disengage stabilize mode the stick quickly jerks to the right and back before returning to the center position. Is this supped to be that way? Looks like a filter that has to settle first and I'm wondering how this system is done in the real thing.

Just had the same thing in MP too. After refueling and rearming at kobuleti with 3 400l tanks and JATO I almost couldnt make it into the air before the end of the runway. At an altitude of 6km the max speed I was able to reach without tanks was about mach 1.2 with full AB and when landing it went down like a rock at 360kmh. Duno if it has something to do with that, but I noticed the pylons for the outer tanks were completely black and there was a "dot" showing up on my plane at the F10 view. Also the canopy didnt open after rearm/refuel... EDIT: Just found this thread about the nosecone-> http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130893 that explaines a lot, but im not completely sure about the landing. The plane felt heavier... I will do some further testing about this.

:surrender: failure number 7.... flying the exact route and switching to daytime didnt help... There are some enemy planes showing up on my radar, but since I never know they'r height I loose them again, just to turn into a fireball 30sec later :disgust:
-
I use the ruler tool in the mission planer and write down what course I have to fly from one WP to the next. To be able to determine the exact location of a WP on my course I use RSBN and ARK radials.
-
@ruddy122 Thanks for your reply and track. I was kind of confused first but then realized that your track is not the same mission as the one I mentioned, its the 2U version and I was trying 2N . But anyways I will try it again, this time with the correct heights and timing for the WPs. I think the Mig23 went defensive and turned left and down so it was pointing directly at me. If I'd be higher I might be able to overfly the enemy and then approach from they'r 6.

I just started with the campaign and so far I failed miserably. I tried mission 2 (MIG21_EN_C_2N.miz) four times now and every time one of those sneaky Mig23's flanked on the left side and then got behind me (as shown in the tacview screenshot). Using the SPO and wingman calls I managed to dodge some radar guided missiles but everytime they got me with heat seekers afterwards (almost got a heart attack when hit while trying to get something on my radar screen :punch::D). In short I have no SA whatsoever. Did anyone manage to survive such kind of a mission? What would be the best tactic? So far I tried approaching the area at low altitude because the radar has no look down capability, but then I quickly run out of energy when merged. I got some lucky shots with heat seekers, but since its 5:00 in the morning its to dark to really see someting. Requesting bogey dope lulled me into a false sense of security since AWACS didn't see some enemies behind me and I was an easy target... any tips on what else to try?

There is a ruler tool in the mission planer that you could use. But its kind uf inconvinient to use since everything has to be written down on a piece of paper and some ARK stations are not shown. Would be nice if the map and kneeboard would already show direction and distance for each waypoint. Furthermore the ruler tool doesn't show magnetic heading, so you have to do some correction to get the correct values. Its kind of a guessing game, could never get my course to be spot on.

Happened to me too and was most probably related to the bug that was fixed in the patch today. The game loaded you into an AI aircraft of the red team on the russian side of the hills. After patching and resaving the mission it starts at kutaisi on the runway and matches the mission planing. But that mission is a challenge anyways, a ton of aircraft and very limited SA. When following the wps you run head on towards 4 strikers and 3 mig21s...

So far ground attack and flying around for fun was the only thing I tried in MP. I never felt like going against more modern jets with this kind of limitations, it wouldnt end well anyways. Maybe someone will come up with a MP mission with dedicated Mig21 A2A with Su25/A10/Helos for CAS, could be fun since its not as easy as with the modern jets.
-
Check this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130537 You have to open the mission in the editor and make a small change to it so it is resaved.

Wow, first release ever to get me by surprise . Just spent my first hour in the Mig, did a start-up, take-off and some landings (1 fatal, 3 successful :D) and I have to say, this thing is loads of fun and will be totally ruining my plans for the weekend :D. Duno why but my download was super fast, took me 10mins to update everything. Big thanks to Leatherneck :thumbup::thumbup:
