Finally, here comes Spectrum Holobyte's vision of The Electronic Battlefield. Only took 'em 20 years.

This is GREAT how things are going! This is what Arma should have been! A realistic world! It just never achieved it, nor does it look like they will ever aim for it. Many mod groups have done EXCELLENT jobs at trying to do it (i.e. ACE2 ), but just have not been able to get there because of engine limitations. I hope that DCS can become the New Arma, and do what BIS didn't. Its great how we now have 3rd party developers, which are kind of like the mod groups in Arma. I'll gladly buy their products. Now that we have 3 third party developers coming out with new jets, I hope we can attract some developers to make realistic ground vehicles and troops ( especially infantry and small arms). Also, developers who will work on realistic villages, towns, compounds, military bases, and outposts so we can attract the FPS players. I hope DCS will finally be the breakout from the single minded FPS only / Flight Sim only genre. The land right now is kind of at the UT1 / Arma 1 level on the ground, but thats ok. Infiltration was one of the greatest FPS mods ever made, and it used UT1. I can remember running for any cover I could find as F-16's rolled in with a CAS strike. Buildings and structures just need to be made better, with better textures.

I'm reading your post here again, and it seems your targeting something as specific as a window. So is this like an "area" lock, where the missile really is locking on to something? And if so, would the missile in FC have to have something digitally sharp enough to lock on to? In other words, can it or can it not lock on to something like a blurry house 20km away, cause it is in game with FC. In game, its seems to just lock on to anything, no matter how blurry or far away, ground, trees, radars, whatever.
-
Hmm, ok. So it looks like the mav's FM needs some major tweaking (Cause it was gonna make it to target at 20km!) Does FC "lock" on anything? It looks like it just tries to shoot like an arrow at a certain area, so is there really any range limit to the "lock" in FC? Does it eventually pick something to lock on to? In an emergency situation, an inaccurate hit with a larger mav (G or K) might do the job. It seems to me, the real problem here is the mav is traveling waaaayyyy farther than its supposed to be able to at certain speed and height.
-
So, is operational time limit a sim thing, or real life? And can it be changed? Because the missile did look like it was going to make it to the target. And can the missile actually go 23km MAX distance if launched from height in RL? i.e. 20,000 MSL. It may not be kosher to do this, but I'm wondering if this can actually be done in RL, as it would be effective against something delicate like a small search radar. And yeah, the mav usually won't track in normal mode till about 7km away. I'm just trying to take a wild arrow shot with a big bomb.
-
Hey guys, I was trying to shoot a mav on FC today, and I did it, but before the mav could reach the target, it exploded! It was around a 20km shot ( which is why I used FC from 20,000ft MSL to make it more like a bomb ) and was an AGM-65K. Is this realistic? Or a bug? Sucks, because the missle looked like it was going to make it and glide all the way in. Manual lists it as having a MAX range of 24k. About the only way you can deal with a HAWK and still avoid MANPADS.
-
Thanks for the info. Having problems with FC too. Sometimes I want to STRANGLE the engineers that make these planes!
-
Yep, after a lot of thought, were really comparing apples to oranges here.
-
Hmm, maybe its my computer then. I can be going along at a decent speed well below the 325 km/hr or so limit, straight and WHAM!, my blades suddenly clash. For no reason I can see! Sometimes, after doing hard manuevers, and then bringing the heli back to straight and level, it feels like something is binding the engines, like the heli never dumped its energy. Blade clash seems more likely at low speeds and manuevers later after these episodes too. I'm beginning to suspect that my computer may be dumping frames when there is hard calculations going on, because it can't keep up. That may be causing the problems. Nice to know someone isn't having problems, so that makes me wonder. I get episodes where it bucks like a wild bronco! And thinking about it now, this happens more after I've been playing a mission for a while, i.e. when the cpu has gotten hotter. I might just need a better computer.
-
Thanks, thats what it looked like but I wasn't sure.
-
Lol, great! Maybe you guys can help ED with it. Seems were missing some components. Especially the command trailer / vehicle / whatever.
-
After a few hundred hours in DCS, I'd have to say A-10. BS can be like riding a runaway bronco. Sometimes, after hard manuevers, even if you get it supposedly "steady", its like its got stored up energy pulling all kinds of ways for a great while afterwards. I would never ride the Ka-50 IRL. Blades seem to cross for no reason at times and waaayyyyy too easily. Really frustrating. I can see why the Russians canceled it. I would hope the Ka-52 has far greater survivability, but I will never fly in a co-axial aircraft IRL. That would be suicide IMO.
-
So, what does the smaller cross on the ones we use represent?
-
Thanks. Its hard to find information on the azimuth even on the internet. Looks like we only got the HIPIR and the PAR ingame. Hopefully, ED will give us the other parts as this is a pretty good mid range missile system IMO. I know its obsolete, but many countries still use it, I hear.

Hey guys, what is the max yaw (rotation) of the HAWK tracking radar unit? And if its not 360 degrees, do you need multiple units around a search radar? Also, where is the CP bunker or vehicle to control the radars? 2nd Question: Why do I not get a "spike" on the TWI? Its always solid, and the tracking radar and search radar seem to have the same range?
-
I wonder if he has a quick course for certain helicopters on suicide missions. <cough> Battle.miz <cough>!
-
Ya think? :music_whistling::D Yeah, I think there's a lot of crooked ( but smart! ) sellers on Ebay that manipulate things to their advantage. Nice way to get yourself out of a jam if the bidding is too low in the end. A nice trick to remember!

You guys should also be careful where you are downloading them. There should be a hash check on it. If its not the same number as the original ED file, its not the same file, no matter what its named. Spammers and hackers are notorious for altering files and then re-uping them. Just because its on a good torrent site, doesn't mean its the real file, even if the megabyte count looks about right. Be sure you get the torrent file from ED's site, and then look close at the web address it takes you to to make SURE its really ED's site. I've noticed a lot of phishing scams going on of late, that lead you to bogus sites that look like the real thing, but aren't. Always take a close look at the address in the address bar. There's a fake Pirate Bay one floating around for instance. Looks just like the real thing, till you see the address doesn't end in .se . I'm still not extremely comfortable with .torrents either as everyone is in to it, and we all know what that attracts. REALLY GOOOD HACKERS!

Upgrading some gear, could use your opinion
Wolfie replied to neroroxxx's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My problem with the CH is that I've never liked they're loose base. Other than that, I guess they're ok. -
Lol, you obviously don't know the "West". Most of here are pretty poor. Were in a another "Great Depression" brought on by the greedy rich selling all the workers out. I'm currently out of a job, and my future is looking bleak. I too won't be buying P-51. And for just the plane itself, I think $40 is too much. Especially for an old WW2 fighter. $20 sounds more realistic. I'm still waiting for the TM Warthog to come down to a "reasonable" price. $400+ for a hotas is INSANE. And on a personal thought, DCS could sell a lot more copies if it increased the ground graphics to the level of Arma II. It wouldn't have to be "everywhere" as we all know the DCS world is much larger than Arma. Just in a handful of major places so we can stick FPS into this sim. Fighting against human ground forces like in Arma 2 would boost sales of this sim ten fold.

Is there a way to identify targets with the Shkval?
Wolfie replied to Logan9773's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Probably same as shkval, except it looks like one is visual, and the other is FLIR. Ka-50N? -
Turn Afghanistan into a glowing ember - problem solved. There's nothing good there.
-
Yeah, those fighter / tank killer relations just never work out.
-
Its definitely interesting, but way too pricey.
-
Heh, thanks Viper. THAT looks good. In BS1, I can't lock them up no matter how far away or slow they are moving. @Bushmanni - Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I don't have a very good stick, so I usually do try to let them fly into the gates and then lock. Now I got to try locking up jets with the Maverick on A-10. I'm working on it. I can kill heli's, but haven't had good luck with jets so far. Just got to wait for them to slow down on an attack run so my mav can catch them. And if the AI cheat, then that needs to be fixed. Especially their damage models ( which are tinkertoy simple ). If people can afford $600 joysticks, and even pits, then they can afford to buy a faster computer. The problem is everyone wants to fly at maximum resolution with all the bells and whistles. I myself usually fly at 1024 x 768 at all low. Solves many problems, and is still pretty good.
