I don't really object to any lower level aircraft, because I know you want to populate your world, and make money, and thats good for everyone. I just want, as I said above, for there to eventually be one at the level of BS2 and Warthog. I think the majority of us could live with that, and it would be a good compromise that would see a vast influx of new players. Which again, is good for everyone. Yeah, I would LOVE to see a DCS: Viper :P
-
I don't have a huge problem with it, as long as we see the MAJOR aircraft (F-15, F-16, F-18, Mig-29, Su-27, etc.) at least done to DCS quality levels at a later date. The F-14 is kind of dated, and has been retired (at least to my knowledge). Though I probably would like to see a DCS: Tomcat one day.
-
Natsims - Harrier works for me. It shows that it is LESS than DCS standards.
-
I think the majority of us would be unhappy if the "DCS" tag were put on something that had less fidelity than Warthog and BS2. It should be named something else to reflect its lesser quality. Say, FC3: Harrier. Though, hopefully, it will have clickable cockpit and 6DOF.
-
I wouldn't mind it too much, if it had a clickable cockpit, and ( since its a major modern jet ) would made to DCS realism in the future. As I said above, I think what we are seeing is a quick populating of the DCS World, and company survival wise, I think thats understandable. I would love to see EVERYTHING at DCS levels, but I know short term, thats probably not realistic. Its going to take time and I HATE to admit it.

EXCELLENT!

niche = $ NO SALE $ :music_whistling: I would LOVE to see realism on the DCS scale with EVERY plane and vehicle. But its probably not going to happen. Just look at the former MSFS groups and take a wild guess. It think what we are seeing here is a quick populating of the DCS: World with planes / heli's that are a good bit better than FC but may not be as good as DCS. Most people are not going to be happy with just one plane and one helicopter. They want a more realistic ARMA / FPS with vehicles - planes. This has been coming for a long time. The FS "niche" cannot survive. Neither can FPS with no vehicles or planes. Crysis 2 for instance fell flat because they took out vehicles / planes and had tiny maps. People expected a lot more. If you really want to succeed, you've got to make a better ARMA. DCS is at the right time and has the right world to do this. If they do it right and realistic, they're going to make a killing and we are going to see the merge of FPS and FS. It's going to be awesome! So patience. I'm sure, probably just like the Su-25T in FC, we'll eventually see them redone to DCS quality in the future, possibly by DCS themselves. Especially the F-15, F-16, Mig-29, etc. For now, we'll just have to live with some third party addons ( some of which may be pretty fun! ) in order to gain customers and players. At least we finally might start getting people to play with! DCS has really been good to us. We would still be stuck with a 15? year old engine if it wasn't for them. Let them make their world and their money.

All of them being as good as BS2 and A-10 would be nice, but in the end, I doubt it. I don't see some of these companies being as good as DCS. However, I think anything marked with the "DCS" brand should be held to the same extreme standards as DCS: Warthog and DCS: BS2. Let the lesser fidelity ones be marked as something else, so we know what is what. Of course I hope in the end, everything WILL be as good as the current DCS titles and they should be! We want REALISM! Push it DCS! We'll buy the hardware to deal with it! And I totally agree - DCS:World is NOT just about aircraft. Its meant to be a WORLD. Waiting for armor and infantry!

Wonder How it will compare to Steel Beast Pro
Wolfie replied to h00t74's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Since its ALL the tanks, etc, I wouldn't expect more than Arma quality, but I'm hoping they'll put realistic targeting and ballistics in it. At least make the guns and targeting systems realistic. We can work on realistic engine, control panels, etc. later, in add on modules. DCS:M1A2 TUSK. -
Lol, I doubt if we will get Crysis quality. Though Arma 2 does a good job on their terrain and bushes, grass, etc.
-
DCS silence is a little disconcerting, but i think its a pretty educated guess that it will be the F-16 or F-18, seeing as they are the best modern American fighters everyone is wanting, and as we can see, the third party developers are intentionally ignoring them. 2+2.
-
Jets can fly high in Arma too, believe me. DCS can do what has been done in Arma, if they wish to. And especially if they allow modding.
-
Jesus. Someone actually did it.
-
I believe thats called COIN. ;)

I tried and immediately came back. I forgot how ANCIENT that sim is. Its time is done. I hope the BMS, etc. teams will change their minds and come over to DCS.

DCS Combined Arms; will there be logistics?

TRUTH! :D -
DCS Combined Arms; will there be logistics?
Wolfie replied to Cadmium77's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I think he means some of the harder things, like, "how long does it take to repair a tank"? And I'm trying to think back to F4's DC, how much time passes between missions, etc? If its real time, then tank's shouldn't be repaired, because their is no time. If long time periods pass between missions, then things might be able to be repaired. We'd have to leave it up to the computer to decide what happens repair, logistics, and movement wise then, at say 30 minutes / sec or so? Complex. -
DCS Combined Arms; will there be logistics?
Wolfie replied to Cadmium77's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
This is where the "Generals" and "High Command" will come in. Kind of a third type of player compared to FPS and Flight Simmer. They can plan and direct the battle. There's a lot of Risk, Chess, and Fortress America players out there, ya know. Some of them would love to direct a large battle and its logistics. Man, this sim is starting to really take off! -
Yeah, I've been waiting a "while" for this. :P As for the ACE team, they tried to make Arma 2 as realistic as possible ( and did a pretty good job!). Like DCS, they tried to make everything more "hands on". One of their best jobs IMO opinion was the 105mm artillery which you have to load and sight in yourself, with a complicated artillery computer and sight sticks. There are also MANY more mod teams for Arma as well, covering some of the things ACE didn't get to. Thats what I love about Arma, it has so many mod teams, who really tried to get a living, breathing world going. However, the arma engine has its limits. Its pretty old. I'm hoping DCS' new "world" will be able to overcome these limits, and we can finally get a "realistic, breathing world" of both FPS and Flight sim, with realistic player controlled ground troops and vehicles going up against realistic aircraft. With the way third parties are starting to jump on, I hope some will want to do vehicles and infantry, as well as more realistic terrain, towns, military compounds, etc, producing a far more realistic version of Arma. If anyone's interested in the better mods for arma 2, the best place to go is http://www.six-updater.net/ This is a program that lets you download and integrate mods into Arma 2.

No ones forcing DCS to do anything. They did it themselves. If the hard core FPS players and the hard core Flight Simmers who hate each other don't like it, let them stay with Crysis and BMS. I think most people ( like me ) want both. A realistic, breathing world. And it looks like we just might finally get it. This was Spectrum Holobytes vision when they came out with F3. They called it "The Electronic Battlefield". Everything in modules. Had they survived, you would have seen modules like M1A1 and T72 as well. Some people will hate it, but I think in the end, it will increase sales, and thus survivability, for DCS. You don't have to buy "every" module, just the ones you want (don't get me started on how some FPS "pilots" fly :music_whistling:). And no, Arma is FAAAARRR from realistic. Though the ACE2 team did do WONDERS with it.

LOL, you know your a gamer when you move to another country, just so you can join more populated servers!

As a flight simmer of old, I'll say it. DCS is gonna rule in the end. People will grudgingly see the light and come over. F4, Open Falcon, Red Viper, BMS have all had their day, and it was GREAT. But the F4 engine is ANCIENT! Its had its day. Eventually things like DC and turbulence, etc. will be incorporated into DCS World, and that will be that.
