  1. ding ding ding!! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131142 This could be your target, bookmark it, research it, own it
  2. So what you're saying is that sometimes they're prophetic.... Hrmmmmm Thanks MrProphet ...lol He's right though.... they're wrong enough times though that I view their page as entertainment
  3. I know, I should!! Others will borrow my rationalizations! ok... im going to go dig my ass out of this 15inch snow fall so the FedEx Express guy can make it to the door lol
  4. Yeh... Recall though, this chipset was in development before the merger... and in terms of OEM builds, ATI will still want native graphics solutions regardless of CPU maker... that means intel... Someone please tell me that that still holds? lol AMD/ATI is not a lost cause... Even with zero successes, I give them 3 more quarters till they have to do some "save this ship" measures.
  5. I would seriously have to kill you.... lol
  6. People like to say this, I even have... but on a core level it's just not true. We not to long ago got off a nearly 2 year period where it was AMD with S939-NF4-DDR1 .... Now the holy trinity is Intel, Socket 775-965 or 975-and DDR2. That last one arrived 4 months ago and will continue for quite awhile... Yeh things come out all the time, but not so much as to make things completely wonky...
  7. Very true, but that was known with the 640mb too... if one was viewing 1920x1200 or greater it would have to be Gtx or < ... That gets into insane spending... and Cali... my situation, it makes it a tinge less moronic when you sell your old stuff while it still has value, that, and im just getting mobo, cpu, and ram. Hey, we've kind of hijacked this thread... to the OP... These pictures just wont die, they were first called fakes but they're persisting... If the card is 12in long then that's amazing... people are going too need to take a rotary tool to their cases or buy full towers to fit it... The size is an issue, but not as much as price to performance comparison...
  8. Jeeeeeez >>> http://www.legitreviews.com/article/459/1/ Shouldn't be surprised... it was all about clock speed between the 640mb and the 768mb ... but still, 320mb (300$) getting near GTX speeds ... thats truely worth looking at. Todays release puts the greatest amount of pressure on ATI, more so than the 640mb GTS or the GTX release. I'm about to go from AMD and build an intel machine, one till penryn or such gets here and prices drop... AMD/ATI has to get closer to the releases of Intel and Nvidia... They simply must
  9. I hope and do think the R600 will be a good response to the 8800
  10. Can I have one? Cali... you know no one would notice...
  11. Well he didnt mention overclocking and he clearly buys new each time so I dont think he needs that one, Dell im sure has one that meets the spec, although i wouldn't bet much further. While we're on the topic of PSU's, research for specific units aside, this is a great place to start... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1596104&postcount=1
  12. Well... assuming that you have correctly troubleshot everything, I have two things to say ... 965p or 975x
  13. Happens to me sometimes as well.... never looked into it... will be gald to hear some responses
  14. It's not significant in terms of performance i think, for your building it will be, DDR1 will not work in the DDR2 motherboard you'll be buying... here's a little reading on the subject... http://www.archmemory.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=76
  15. Ok copy that... 1000$ Here's one issue, keep educating yourself, but if you're not going to buy for another few months then put this conversation on a bit of a hold until then. Use these months to hash out the technology and select parts right when you need them... Yeh, your mission is to find a nice motherboard with a good chipset and two 2 EIDE ports. Although... good hard drives are extremely cheap these days. Looking at the board you have is fine, but DO verify that there is no BTX/ATX conflict.... as it stands... you can get a new case for 50$ that will give you much better cooling. The more 120mm fans the better! One more thing... In these three months, learn how to overclock. Yes the adage "If you cant afford it, dont break it" stands, but its nearly impossible to break stuff given some simple knowledge. Cheers ~ Fudd
  16. Some things... - Is your budget actually 1300$ or is it 700$? - Absolutely that power supply will not be enough, go for the HX520w from corsair - That Dell has a good chance of being a BTX style case, which means the ATX motherboards you've selected will not fit into the case. BTX motherboard afaik arent common and may lack features, best to buy a new ATX case. - Why not buy 2x1gig Ram in a matched set? Doing so could save money and uncomplicate potential issues with the motherboard. - If you can, wait a month or so for the 8600 or 8300 from Nvidia, they will be Dx10 capable cards, something that MAY come into the play over the life of this computer - The white thingy and blue thingy..... The white on the card is a DVI port, the Blue on the back of your monitor is an analog jack... an adapter (usually comes with a video card) can let the vid card interface with the monitor,) but be aware that your signal will be analog... should not be an issue (research that though) since im guessing you're using a CRT monitor and not a LCD. - This board you have selected (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131046) is a micro-atx board, and will only fit into a case that supports micro-atx Aero... get back to us with your actual "I can not go higher than this" budget and we'll go from there.... Researching this stuff can royally suck, but i happen to enjoy it greatly... use our knowledge  Edit... One sticking point as we try to get this hashed out is the lack of two EIDE ports on the 965p chipset (a desirable chipset)... may mean we trash old hard drive and pickup a new Seagate Perpendicular drive for 70$... And Blaze.... you lied... you said you'd get back to us with Max FSB for that Commando you bought.... lol
  17. F-14 too old? possibly.... But as Mustang once said when i was a uber noob.... "It's not you so much that I was worried about in the engadgement, its your missles"
  18. Hrmmm lets see real quick, these are lightly researched suggestions Motherboard - Gigabyte DS3 - 132$ CPU - Intel E4300 - 170$ Ram - pc5300 2x1gig - 220$ GPU - Wait on Nvidia Dx10 8300 or 8600 - 180$ Hard Drive - You already have one and difference b/w EIDE and Sata arent great at all - 0$ Power Supply - Corsair HX520w - 100$ Monitor - You already have one - 0$ Operating System - 130$ Firewire card - 30$ Case - 80$ Small tube of artic silver 5 - 6$ Shipping for all of these components from Newegg.com - 60$ You're golden, and have 200$ to spare... build away my friend and watch it blow that Dell out of the water! Edit: When i said lightly researched i meant this, upon further review the Ds3 has only one IDE socket, no big deal though, just pick one that has two (one for HD and one for optical drive.)
  19. Welcome Paul.... yeh good start.... Get all ther basics down and then reserve some questions for some willing ears, there will be things that conceptually you think you're doing right but they never work... ask someone in person... grab teamspeak and hit up an experienced Lomac'er... You're ahead of the curve though if you're a pilot
  20. All these men are liars.... there never has and never will be any aussies flying Lomac... I dont know what it is about it, they just dont seem to like it... :bounce:
  21. Here you are phil http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r198/Battle_Rattle/ScreenShot_003.jpg
  22. Ummmmm i know that Pilotasso... what im talking about is the time frame for penryn release, i didnt see them mention it, maybe i missed it though.
  23. Yeh hitman.... bump your original post about that... you're still scaring me talking about buying DDRI PC4000 ram and socket AM2.... those two formats dont even fit each other... Grab this setup, on my honor this is the best price/performance you can get, im no fanboy and I follow this stuff constantly. Mobo - 965p motherboard CPU - Intel e6300 or e4300 Ram - 2x 1gig of DRR2 667 or go for DDR2 800 (preferably with Micron D9 modules) GPU - an Nvidia 7xxx or ATI x19xx series card (could wait for the Dx10 midrange from Nvidia to come out, ge8300 and ge8600) PSU - Corsair HX620w Hard Drive - 400gb Seagate 7200.10 Sata drive
  24. Yep, sounds like penryn will be the point at which LOMAC will truly be a "normal" playing game. Some things about your exuberance though pilotasso, yes penryn has booted everything but are you sure when it's coming out? The articles are saying the Nehalem will come out in the second half of 2008... there's alot of leeway there... I only mention it because "the waiting game" is an illogical game at times... and remember pilotasso... top of the line processors nearly always debut with slower brothers with lower prices, which can usually be overclocked to the top of the line. Who knows though, penryn binning may be really tight.
