I would think MSAA, DLSS and resolution settings are GPU related and have less to do with whatever CPU you are using.

Very cool. But how many players have a setup like that which would make such a game feature worthwhile? Even triple screen setups are so rare it seems ED doesn’t feel like supporting that is worthwhile. And the A-10 does have blister canopy with an all-around view. The ability to see your 6:00 must have been considered worthwhile.
-
That makes sense for something like an airliner but in a combat sim you need to be able to look all the way to your 6:00 Your entire view needs to move in a sim like this. In this case the HMD being locked to the center of your screen is replicating how it would work IRL. A fighter plane simpit with a fixed screen like that would need to have a dome projector. I suspect those aren’t too common outside of pro simulators.

That was on my runner up list too. It seems very good. I’m still considering Virpil for everything. They have a 12 week wait for stuff though If I move to another vendor, for me it’s like an all-in proposition. I think Moza’s FFB line also looks appealing. That’s what I’m keeping a lookout for. In the meantime I don’t have to bother remapping everything CH still wins the $/button contest

My puppy ate my 15 year old Pro Throttle’s USB cable . Of course I contemplate getting something more boutique but after evaluating all of them just got another CH. Bottom line is it just has more buttons. And the expensive throttles all try to replicate specific aircraft and include lots of switches particular to just an A-10 or F-18 that are mostly just used to start the plane Few of them have the one feature I’d pay for which is a slider for the zoom view since real aircraft don’t have these Runners up for me are Virpil CDT-VMAX and maybe Moza if their future lineup includes a generic style and not the F-18 replica. CH still has the best price and quality IMO

Yeah I realize that. Honestly it seems just frustrating to me and not worthwhile. A basic joystick is quite inexpensive. The essential problem is that flying has an inverted Y-axis vs pointing with the mouse like you do in the clickable cockpit or for aiming.

It’s amazing that some people can tolerate an inverted Y-axis. Seems like torture to me. Why I bought my first flight stick long ago.

It just happens at random to me. I’ve found just Alt Tabbing out to GHUB and switching the DPI back and forth fixes it. 125 is way too clunky to tolerate.

Right but they don’t look nearly good enough for what people expect here today. A civy sim global map is meant to be seen from high altitude. Combat games have action going on right at the ground. It’s going to just look really dull compared to the custom maps and to me those are preferable in a combat game. Battles take place in theaters. Not across the globe. DCS already has maps large enough for flights longer than most players are probably willing to do. The reason civy sims have global maps is variety, so you can fly to or from anywhere. But to me there isn’t a need to have battles in San Diego or Miami. The trade off in quality won’t be worth it for most people I imagine. My guess is players would rather see something like the Germany map up close vs being able to just fly for hours or stage action in odd places around the world. My vote is a global map is dead last compared to all the other things DCS could have. Maybe that’s the goal? Spherical maps but not global?
-
This whole idea seems farfetched. ED doesn’t have the resources for a map like this nor is it necessary or suitable for a combat sim IMO especially one with historical eras. They’ve stated they can’t afford streaming technology either which is the only way a map of this size could work. If this has to fit on a local drive it will just be a bland auto-gen map without cities or airports like flight sims had 15-20 years ago.

Please Address Game Bloat from CoreMods & Excessive Liveries
SharpeXB replied to celestHawk's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sure, that doesn’t sound like an option here. Yet. It’s probably the future though. All other media has moved from packaged to downloaded to streamed. Games likely will too. We’re just at stage 2 for now. I don’t see how a global earth model ED is considering would be feasible unless it were streamed.- 69 replies

It’s a flight simulator. The liveries are just about the chief artwork in the game.- 69 replies

This is how DCS works already. But in many cases that default livery is bright metal. So it’s a bit of an exploit online being able to remove your opponents camouflage if they had selected that.- 69 replies

Works very well for me personally but I guess it’s not an option here. Hard drives will just have to get bigger and cheaper and they are…- 69 replies

SharpeXB replied to celestHawk's topic in DCS Core Wish List
If you try that other sim that streams the content it actually doesn’t need that much bandwidth. The recommended is just 50mbps. It seems like the only solution for games with such large content. Like when or if DCS ends up with a global map just putting it on a drive will become unmanageable.- 69 replies

Perhaps at some point DCS just goes for streaming all the content vs storing it locally.- 69 replies

The 1:1 profile isn’t right for a game like this where you need to look at your 6:00. I doubt anyone uses that in DCS. I can’t tell what that’s about. It seems like it’s about the HMD not displaying on the side screens in triple setups. I use a single screen and don’t experience this.
-
That’s because it’s moving with your view which is moving with your head tracking. Not sure how you think that would work differently. The whole purpose of head tracking is to move your view. By definition the HMD will always be where you’re looking.
-
These things use low-intensity LEDs which are unlikely to cause damage. Plus you aren’t looking directly into it. TrackIR is certainly the best option. Unless you’re in a country with exorbitant prices this is the way to go. I haven’t ever used other devices but from what I read they require too much fiddling. TrackIR works right out of the box. The face or eye tracking devices like Tobii aren’t supported in DCS and need workarounds. No harm in trying these out though if there’s a return policy.
-
I wouldn’t expect this for free in DCS as it’s a paid subscription model in those other add-ons. But it’s cool.

Stuff like BeyondATC is very cool indeed. You’ll notice they are paid add-ons though or even require subscriptions. I don’t think the user base in DCS is sufficient to fund something like this. We can dream though.

DCS WWII 1944 Kickstarter: A Tragedy in 3 Acts
SharpeXB replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Chit-Chat
A cautionary tale to be sure. Honestly the Kickstarter video explains the history and reality of making these games today very well. More people should watch that before judging sims today as not having enough content or taking too long to finish. Comparing them to games of the past that were exponentially less expensive to create.
