MFG Crosswind - Review
dabomb replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can add me to the list, slicker. Ordered Dec. 19. Should see them in February/March. -
I feel your pain. Now, if I know my post is going to be more than a few sentences, I select all of it and copy it to my clipboard before clicking the "Post Quick Reply" button. That way, if it times out while I was typing, I can just log back in, paste it back in the post box and post it. It still sucks, but it's better than losing your whole post.

How to allow other view (F2, F3...ect) in replays ?
dabomb replied to Theskyline35's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm not positive, but I believe you can rename the .trk file to .miz, then open it up in the mission editor and enable the other views. Then save it in the mission editor and finally rename it back to a .trk and try replaying it. I would recommend making a copy of the original .trk file as a backup before attempting this, just in case. -

1.5.2 today, 2.0 tomorrow. Read back a few pages, it's been mentioned several times.

I also remember a post (by Wags?) months ago saying the 70% off sales were going to be discontinued. In the past few sales, the discounts have ranged from 10 to 40%. Still a good deal.

You should copy only the Scripts folder into C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta or \DCS.openalpha, NOT the entire DCS-SLmod-develop folder. Then run multiplayer and it should create the Slmod folder.

Acquiring JSGME WITHOUT acquiring a virus? (please read everything)
dabomb replied to a tame pilot's topic in DCS Modding
gamefront.com is a legit site and has been around since 2001. Chrome's virus and malware protection can be overly paranoid at times. -
DCS Nevada 2.0 TTR MAP Graphics

Many thanks for putting in the effort. Much, much appreciated.

This is correct. Roll throttle all the way open, then roll back to idle. Press and hold the starter switch until the Gas Producer gauge shows 40 RPM, then release the starter switch. Gas Producer will increase to about 70-72 RPM. Once this occurs, roll throttle all the way back up. No hot start, no flames.

mi-8 VERY jerky/jumpy on takeoff in 2.0
dabomb replied to nigelmcelwee's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
They finally added vibration when translating into/ out of hover. This was added in a recent update, maybe 2 weeks ago? -
Aaaand on behalf of all of us helicopter pilots, please disregard everything he just said and keep up the good work on the detailed cities, buildings, etc.

I believe there is an incorrect directory name specified in the install.bat file. Within the MOOSE directory, there is no Script_DCS subdirectory. It should probably either not include a path at all (since the MissionScripting.lua is already in the root of MOOSE, or it should specify the MissionScripting subdirectory, as there's a copy of the MissionScripting.lua in there as well.

We have a couple of dedicated servers and would like to use the "Pause on load" option for a few of our missions. I feel dumb asking, but how does one un-pause the server to start the mission in 1.5? I've tried the Pause key, ScrollLock, and variants of those two with Alt, Shift and Ctrl but nothing seems to work. (I've tried from both the server console itself and from my PC as a player) I feel like I can't be the only one that's run across this in 1.5. If this question has been asked and answered already, my apologies. (but please post a link and send me on my way in shame) :) Thanks

Thanks Frenchy.

The rotor blade noise in the sim is actually pretty accurate now in 1.5. Taken from a thread on the airtalk.org forums:
-
Our dedicated server leaks badly in 1.5. DCS.exe will eat all of the available RAM (16GB total) in about 4 hours or so with 4-8 users on and off during that time. All aircraft are set to "client". Never had this issue in 1.2.
-
Have you updated your beta since it first came out? I know there's been one update to it that fixed the "special characters in usernames" issue and I believe there may have another small update too (?) but don't quote me on that.
-
No worries. Thanks for the reply, Grimes.

Any PC that can run DCS can conceivably run a dedicated server. Now, how well that server will run depends on CPU, RAM and network bandwidth. The biggest limiting factor (and pain in the butt) with DCS is the GPU. Even if you're running a headless, dedicated server, it will still need a GPU capable of running DCS (a DX9 capable GPU for DCS 1.2.x or a DX11 capable GPU for running the 1.5 open beta). Can a Mac Mini run DCS?
-
Has anyone hosting a dedicated server have Slmod up and running on the 1.5 open beta? If so, what needs to be tweaked? I had it running well on our 1.2 server, but it's been a no-go on 1.5. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Are you launching the DCS World Open Beta Multiplayer icon? If so, don't. Use the regular DCS World Open Beta icon instead, and then go into multiplayer from there.

First-world problems. :)
