It's been a while since I posted anything here, but I have been lost to race sims the past years. Last weekend there was a release of a, for us racedrivers with buttkickers (tactile transducers), very interesting software called SimVibe. This software is used with a buttkicker to create tactile effects like engine rpm, bumps, road texture, gearshifts from the data output instead of the actual sound from the sim. This means that the effects can be felt very clearly without any distortion from other sounds and you can yourself tweak the settings to suit your simrig. I must say I'm blown away by this software and the ease to work with it. The software is used by their high end race sim rigs, but suited to use the soundcard as output instead of driving actuators. This means that you can use an ordinary amplifier and buy some rather cheap transducers and hook up to 8... of them to your rig and have bi-directional effects. The games/sims that is supported right now is mostly race sims, but there is one exception.... X-planes 10. Now I know there are quite a few flight guys that might be interested of this. The feeling of the kicker loosing it's umph due to that you are looking sideways , thus the sound frequency changing, is well known. The problem I had to get any effect on the GAU-8 on FC was just irritating as the sound was located just wrong. With this software you can set what you want to be felt and the data output will provide it. I have high hope that if enough people would request the support for the DCS series we might get it. I'm releasing a review on SimHQ mid next week. Please look at Simxperience site if you are interested. http://www.simxperience.com/Products/SimVibe/SimVibeSoftware.aspx

I wonder if they will use Saitek hotas on the production unit too :smilewink:

LOL, the amount of labour people go through for a day like this .....

About the price of an 24" monitor today. These might be something to check out. ViewSonic PJ759 InFocus IN2104EP A bit higher price, but short throw and portable if you want to use it for something else. LG HX300G

Why not use a projector and backlight the whole area? That way you will not have any problems with the size of the monitors. There are cheap LED projectors that will do the job nicely as it does not need that long throw. Just place a sheet of acryllic, painted with "Screengoo" behind the metal bezel. Only thing you need to think of is to keep any wires and stuff out of the areas that you want the screen to cover. Shadows from inside won't be that nice looking ;) Just a thought.

iControl DCS V2 Development Update
CoNa replied to boarder2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Looking god!! Waiting for the v2 to be released. Really clever solutions to manage those dials and switches. After a10 is done, will you have go at BS too? -
Have you changed the monitor settings in DCS a10 to "iControl" instead of "1 Monitor"?
-
You must save the the settings to the iControlDCS.lua. That is done with the "Update Script" button under tools. Make sure you have set the correct location of DCS first though. I made that misstake and of course it did not save my changes.

TH warthog 15degrees offset with T.A.R.G.E.T
CoNa posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have finally taken the step to make a center mount for my TM Harthog stick. Howver to get it ergonomic there is the need to set the axis offset by 15 degrees as you know. I have found this for fixing it by a script, but to be honest I don't know how to use it. Is there a way to set this in T.A.R.G.E.T ? Im first looking into fixing this for FC2, BS, and IL-2 as I understand there might be some issue with DCS-a10 The full script is: MapAxis(&Joystick, JOYX, DX_X_AXIS); MapAxis(&Joystick, JOYY, DX_Y_AXIS); SetSCurve(&Joystick, JOYX, 0,0,0,0, 0.6); SetSCurve(&Joystick, JOYY, 0,0,0,0, 0.6); RotateDXAxis(DX_X_AXIS, DX_Y_AXIS, -15); -
Why not try the Antec h2o 620. Cheaper than the h50 but still more effective. http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/antec_kuhler_h2o_620_review

Fix Your Graphics Card By Baking In Oven
CoNa replied to zakobi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It works very well, I actually fixed an old GT7900 just a couple of weeks ago. It went dead over a year ago. Found it in my old "PC dustbin" and thought... what the heck, lets test it. I only removed the heatsink, nothing else, then put it in the oven for 10 min. Tested it in an old pc...and it worked well again. Won't use it as I have newer things now, but it's good if I needs an cheap upgrade on a server or so. -
For a free CAD software, try Google Sketchup which is free and quite easy to use. There is a lot of "how to" on youtube and other sites. Also, there is a huge library of 3d object to download. So no need to draw everything . I used it to make my simpit.

Please note that these recommendations are for "working at a desktop", not flying/driving a sim. "To minimize neck bending and twisting, try the following: * Position the top of the screen near eye level (see detail 6)." As most of us use trackir, we are constantly moving our position of the neck anyhow. So it does not apply really. However don't take the position in the pic as a best one. I'm 1.90 and the dummy is not more than 1.75. I did this pic to get a notion of what size I would have to build to fit the room. The touch screen and a FMS is what dictated my height possibilities. In the end I scrapped it and built this instead.

Hi, has anyone a working networked (2 pcs) Touchbuddy setup that uses TEWS andloadout from LUA export? I have tried to setup one , but as I never used this feature (Only local before) I can't get it to run properly . Th etouchbuddy buttons work , but not TEWS and loadout. Tried disabeling FW/AV but no joy. Using the Exter profile but it just say: MCP offline. No counting that the server has been unavailable. This is what I have done: copied touchbuddy-export.lua from touchbuddy folder into the "C:\Spel\Lock On\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Config\export" folder added the line "dofile("./Config/export/touchbuddy-export.lua")" to "C:\Spel\Lock On\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Config\export\export.lua" Verified that the "C:\Spel\Lock On\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Config\export\config.lua" has the line "EnableExportScript = true" Set theline "lomac_data_file = C:\Spel\Lock On\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\touchbuddy-export.dat" in the "C:\Spel\touchbuddy\touchbuddy.cfg" on the server PC I think this should be all, but apparently I have missed out on something. I have installed FC2 in a subfolder just under Lockon 1.12 So..do I need to change any settings on the client PC TB? Would be greatful for some help with this.

Yes, and I cannot see where it explains my problem....please advise if I missed it. I have looked at the keyboard setup as well as the joystick setup and found that both has been corrupted (while in flight)...that is the actual bug I report. On the joystick setup I also miss several options. For instance I cannot set ripple on a button on my BU086xx device. I could initially, but not that row is now missing. However it's available on other devices, and then again missing on the keybord. A quick fix is to paste new keyboard and joystick settings for these. Can anyone please send me these for the A10?

I set my joystick and rudder axises in the gui and some buttons. I have configured most keys on my X52. Somehow, while in flight with an A-10, all commands suddenly stopped working but flight controll still worked. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get out. I now find that ALL keycammands are lost in the setup for the A10 only. It's still available in the other planes tabs. OK..I set them back to default. But when I was ready I got a message that I had 106 keys that had an Issue!!!! Seems like a bug... How do I get back to the default setup again. Also, I have got several notification to re-activate again. I press OK and I get message that's it allready activated. press yes to fly without reactivation. What's this all about?

Since the last delays and cost increases it seems like Denmark is rethinking the F-35 and concidering the F-18 super hornet instead. Military prefer it over the Gripen apparently.
-
Did a quick check on one of the pits models to show you the size it has. As you can see, it's easy to get an idea of what it would look like and then correct things when working with cad.

I think it's very individual on how you prefer to sit. Some people want to sit low like in a F1 racer, and some (like me) a bit more upright. Might be the age that gets me from sitting low :megalol: For my last project I did try to find a good seating position, but also had the need to fit it a a tight space. First I was planning for a really dedicated pit, but I had to lower my visions a bit. One suggestion is to do an quick and easy cad drawing to estimate what you feel as your best individual position. Use googles SketchUp, sketchup.google.com as it is free and you can download a lot of ready made things like joysticks, seats, monitors which makes it much fatest to work with. This is some of my initial ideas. Let me know If you want the cad files and you can work from those. Then use some wood to build a rough version that you can alter, or just put your seat on something that can give you an idea of what you want. One tip is that, If you increase B and D, then you can decrease A and C.
-
Can you give some more feedback why you think it's not good for IL2?
-
That is probably the best way to go, making a generic pit that works for most sims as there is allways a new one comming around the corner. A tip is to do review and write down what features you want and what you can be without, and then possibly build in stages. This way you won't be stuck in a half built pit (usually due to time, money and kids&wife) untill all is finished but can quickly "get up in the air". I have rebuilt my pit 3 times, from a very small one, to ..well... a bigger ...and bigger one. After every build I have said. Enough, this will satisfy my needs! But I'm pretty satisfied now (just waiting for the kids to move out so I can use an entire room:music_whistling: ) 1.st version 2:nd ..and current (won't say last:music_whistling:)
-
Have been modifying my pit once again. Now using a 27" monitor as main and a 12" touchscreen with TB. Have now moved the Subwoofer up on the table. It gives nice vibrations in the hotas and then the buttkicker does the chair.

TrackIR (effects on performance)
CoNa replied to Prophet4no1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can be calm, you won't loose any performance... only gain immersion -
Seems Gripen has a chanse after all. http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4443442&c=AME&s=AIR Brazil's government will decide which company is awarded a $7 billion contract for 36 high-tech fighter jets, a minister said Jan. 6, after the Brazilian Air Force backed a different supplier. "The final decision is still political," Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said in Geneva. "Obviously we will study [and] take into account what is in the [technical] reports" but "it's for the minister of defense and the president of the republic [Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva] to decide," he told journalists. "It's not an exclusively military decision," he added. A Jan. 5 newspaper report said the Brazilian Air Force's first choice was the NG Gripen by Sweden's Saab, and not the government's pick, the French Rafale. It reported that the French jet was not even the Air Force's second choice. The runner-up was the F/A-18 Super Hornet by Boeing. The Rafale, a multirole fighter made by Dassault, has been considered the frontrunner since the Brazilian president and French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy announced jointly in September that Brazil was negotiating to buy the delta-winged aircraft. If that intent to purchase was confirmed, it would be the first export sale of the Rafale, possibly making it more attractive to other potential buyers Switzerland and India. But Saab and Boeing are fighting fiercely to land the Brazilian contract, reportedly slashing prices to do so.
