  1. correct again....both those pics came from pages that the very next pic was of a protester holding a picket sign saying "Ban Cluster Munitions".....many think of it as being unsportsmen like...much like the gas attacks of the first world war.....the retreating Iraq solders in the first US/Iraq war got annihilated by the then new CBU87 and the next morning the world got to see how powerful cluster munitions really are...miles and miles of destroyed vehicles and men....so now we boycott them....we want to kill you...but not that quickly....one at a time, helps us sleep better at night....
  2. very correct. ..especially when referring to house or forests fires...the ash fallout is indescribable....thats what Darkwolf meant when saying " No game engine or computer can render that volume of particle at the moment." smoke would almost be the easy part .....the ash fallout would need its own rendering to look like grey/glowing red snow....and the smoke would need to be...well...smoke...then you need a fog like smoke effect in addition to the smoke column .definitely not like clouds. but would be beyond cool if ever accomplished even semi realistic
  3. Best if dropped in pairs
  4. this is a picture of a CBU going off....look at how much smoke is in the city from the previous attacks....gives real meaning to the saying, Fog of war... visibility is very low at this point.... and since this is a CA 1.5 thread I'll say this....any troops on the ground are facing the biggest impact from all the smoke.... edit....technically its a phosphorus bomb of some sort...not a cluster bomb for use against armor
  5. on the subject of smoke....I dont know how many of you have ever see what 30 vehicles burning looks like...or a forest or town on fire...but the pillar of smoke does not dissipate at 200ft....its not just a DCS problem...no game really simulate smoke correctly....a single vehicle that has burn for 1 hour should leave a pillar of smoke that is visible for miles, and some one at an increased elevation (like in an airplane), should be able to see it for a very far distance....30 combat vehicals destroyed (like a battlefront) should leave a smoke field that streaches from the ground all the way to the heavens...like the curtains to a stage....large battlefields and massive destruction can be seen for 50 to 100 miles in some cases... ....like I said..not just a DCS problem....its a pc and game code limitation we currently live with....but may one day.....
  6. No stingers on the wingtips???....where'd my copy of Gunship2000 go????....let me show them what its suppose to look like....
  7. if I were you...instead of coping a TM product...why not copy what they copied...the A-10 controls.....you may even find a real set for sale to be able to make your hotas with....and you may even find a better set from a different airframe that fits your purpose better....dismanteled military hardware is a "dime a dozen" in many places....cant afford a TM warthog hotas set, get a real set.... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/gripspistolstick.html or http://www.boneyard2u.com/boneyard2u.html good luck on your adventure

  9. in an emergency situation the survival of the pilot is first priority...the survival of the plane, 2nd...completion of the mission and objective, 3rd....the returning of the drop tanks back into inventory, 30245th..... ...I'm sure if any pilot is just dropping them to have fun or to be a smart ass will find out they are not military quality after too long....those that educated and trained for many, many year to be able to fly military aircraft normally do not risk such an opportunity over disposable drop tanks and/or the improper use of them..... ....but in the game you can chuck those f**kers where ever you wish....I wont tell if you dont....
  10. I imagine building something by using another companies blueprints or by directly coping it would not be appreciated by the original manufacturer or their legal department...admittedly you are not doing this to make a profit (I hope)....i just dont see them liking the fact that you want 3d dimensions so you can make one instead of purchasing a proper one from them....not how many companies do business..

because bad naval ops is not a new thing for 1.2.7...therefor not needed to be metioned in the beta forums
  12. for the vickrs in the Ka-50 the laser has to be on first...then you lock a target....if you lockthe target first then turn on the laser, it doent know you are trying to fire...its waiting for you to lock a target before it will "range" it.... ...leaving the laser off works for the su-25....but try it one time by turning the laser on, then locking a target, then firing......not lock target, laser on, fire.... once again...I dont fly the FC planes...but the Ka-50 works like that...laser on, lock target, fire vickrs....if you lock the target first, then turn on the laser, it wont fire because you didnt actually "Laze" anything yet...you only locked a target with the shkval.....
  13. the pages in the manual show what the OP is referring to
  14. Ace Combat has it modeled just as well as there other aircraft....with missiles (Aim120c x 200, Aim9x x 100) *runs*
  15. Yeah...but if COOL could win a war...this thing would be the best tool for the job.....
  16. all the things I've asked for except one has been confirmed so far... 1. a better engine...we are getting it...EDGE 2. an American attack helo.....here comes the cobra (I can shoot down a blackshark in this...dare me) 3. a multi role fighter...Bang..the F-18...we have known about this for a while now... 4. Ground unit control.....Combined Arms...which also has an upgrade coming one day 5. I want it all NOW!!!!! I guess in the overall scheme of things, 4 out of 5 aint bad....and the one goal they didnt reach isnt very realistic either....when I get mad about that one, I go play clod(TF4) or arma3....why...because realistically this is the only thing I can do... and you know what....one day I will look up....and #5 on my list will have a check mark next to it...till then...FLAME WARS 2014...here we go...(I wish my warning lvl on these forums got reset every year...like my taxes...)
  17. use flares as a preemptive tool...not a reactive tool...meaning use alot of them when running in on a target....or while in a target area.....I'm not sure about how the su25 is...but in the Ka-50 your wingman is always just randomly poppin flares and ppl always ask, "what is he doing? does he see something?"....the answer is no he does not see something...but what he is doing is he knows he is in a area where stingers might be hiding and continually popping a flare every 5 seconds just to make sure he doesn't get hit by something he doesn't see.... proactive...not reactive...flares work best like this because you never see the stinger that gets you....
  18. rockets are fun...and with the upgraded models by Bezel they are certainly one of coolest looking weapons in the game....mad props to those who can employ them effectively.... ...another tactic I like is instead of doing a "run in"...using the rangefinder to get the correct ballistics and lofting whole salvos from afar and having it rain down like artillery.....great for softening up a cluster of enemy or a convoy ....but once again getting any solid hits on armor is rare and normally only 2-5 soft targets get hit in a 40 rocket salvo.....rockets can be used more effectively....but I get hit by small arms and dont consider myself qualified in that situation.....
  19. if trimmed in flight and you move the stick forward to a new position and tap the trimmer, it will add 20% more pitch then you hoped for.... Now...if trimmed in flight and you hold the trimmer then move the stick forward to a new position, then release the trimmer, it trims perfectly... the trimmer only has 20% authority, so in the first example, when you move the stick forward, you are pushing it 20% further then you would in the second example to get the same pitch.....at this point in the first example you click the trimmer...the trimmer releases 20% authority....the game thinks you are 20% further...then the trimer kicks back in...all in a micro second (the click of the trimmer)...this leads to you seeing this as a "Out of no where rock forward too far".....but its not out of no where...its out of the trimmer system...and it can be up to a 20% difference (if not pushing the stick far one way you are not fighting the full power of the trimmer), short throws equal a small jump....big changes equal a big jump.....change to the "Hold trimmer, maneuver, release trimmer" method for a better gaming experience So like stated above...real Ka-50 pilots dont have this effect when using the "Clicky, clicky" trimmer method....so in the game the "Hold, maneuver, release " method is a better way...
  20. didnt say I couldn't do it...I said it was stupid....I got plenty of kills with rockets....but its a stupid tactic for such a vulnerable airframe...the cannon is a better weapon and I can kill things faster with the cannon and the shkval then you can with rockets....and I can do it without "running in" and looking back...I counted that I used the word "I" 12 times and nowhere did I use the word "you", or "others" or "couldnt".....this is my personal opinion and not up for debate... ....."Rocket runs are stupid and foolish when other means are available....so are "gun runs" for that matter....but I dont do gun runs wtih the Ka-50....I snipe with it....cover and concealment.....its about being clever...not ballsy. " besides this is off topic....we should be arguing about their effectiveness...so here goes..."They are NOT effective when compared to other weapon systems available." ok...your turn....
  21. I'm certainly not going to get in the middle of all this...but I will say one thing....when I fly the Blackshark I hate rockets.....I mean...they are nice and everything....but....when I run out of vickrs I RTB for more...I dont say , "Hey, I got 40 rockets, lets go kill something."...why...because I'm the one that gets killed... I honestly feel the 30mm cannon on the Blackshark is a better choose then rockets...I can use up all my vickrs and get a couple more with the cannon....but rockets are a no no for me.... but...to each their own....I personally dont like doing a 10 min start up just to get hit on a stupid rocket run...it shows impatience and inexperience....not good for a chopper pilot
  22. If I recall correctly, the only M1 tank lost in battle during the Iraq war was to another M1 (friendly fire). They are considered one of the best on the planet (I have weird feelings about how in DCS the T-72 can kill whole columns of Abrams with no loses).....the Brits did very well in developing the new armor for the modern western vehicles.....they should be able to withstand alot...... ...T-72 have been proven to burn very easily in real life do to the placement of the fuel cell in the rear...the Western world feared these things for years (late cold war)...till we got a hold of one and saw the major design flaws....comparable to the Japanese fighters of WWII...the T-72 are know as "Zippos" where I come from.....because the are guaranteed to light on the first strike.... ....I do not suggest a change for DCS, these are just my very bias opinions given to me by the western propaganda machine (cable tv).
  23. without a bubble system (so we can build full maps) or a persistent save system (so unit and supplies can be moved from one mission to the next), this is a dead thread. with a persistent save system we could build a dynamic campaign like the old IL-2 with the DCG addon by Lowergen (http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php) if we had a bubble system we could build a dynamic campaign like F4 or even arma3 with the Alive addon (http://alivemod.com/) BUT....a bubble system probably is not going to happen....DCS was made so you could count bullets, not just yours, but every unit is recorded shot by shot....a bubble system would eliminate this and a 2D combat system would have to be created (i recommend the 1d20 system) the next idea is a "save system" so we can carry over destroyed units and supply lvls from one map to the next....I think this is the only realistic way for DCS...so trying to compare DCS with Falcon4 is a bad way to think of things....think more IL-2...where you move from one mission to the next....the map reloads....units kills are recorded...blah blah blah
  24. its been stated that CA is getting some shining here one day.....so only time will tell...
  25. I guess Oculus Rift is going to be given to everyone for free when it comes out ....or mabey they will create a full size pit that just magically poofs around you in a cloud of fairy dust every time you start up a flight simulator.... the freeware and facetracking stuff are not going to push Trackir into extinction, they simply dont work as good...and as of right now....full HD projection screens 20 foot tall and Virtual Reality stuff are just to expensive to be consider a realistic trackir replacement for normal working ppl maybe in 3-4 flight sim weeks....
