  1. I know about the discount, but here's a twist: Pre-order discount is 20%. As long as that applies you cannot use your bonus points. However, if you wait until the discount goes away, you can use your bonus point's to get a 30% discount, so there's really no point in pre-ordering ;) Edit: Unless you desperately want to support the developers. That's a legit reason for pre-ordering :)
  2. I don't think that was ever their intention. It was probably just a linguistic error from their side. Why pre-order though? It doesn't get you the product any faster. Why not just wait for it? Pre-ordering digital downloads is just plain.... Okay I won't go there, that would be rude.
  3. No matter which one you choose, I think DCS 2.0 will be out of reach and you will have to stay with 1.2.16. Have you considered looking for second hand components? I don't know where you live or anything, but where I live it's pretty easy to get decent second hand components for almost half the price of a new component. Maybe if you considered that, then you could afford to upgrade motherboard, cpu, ram and graphics card?
  4. I'm sorry, but it's probably not worth swapping components in such an old system. It will just end up horribly unbalanced and the new component won't be utilized very well. You should consider an entirely new system.
  5. That's what I've been thinking all along. Not sure why people expected it last weekend. There was not a single sign pointing towards that. Just wishful thinking I guess.
  6. ECM modelling in the sim is a bit simplistic compared to real life, but it can be useful in BVR. What it does is to flood the enemy radar with noise, and as long as the noise is louder than the radar echo, the enemy won't be able to see exactly where you are. They will still know your bearing (because they can see the noise) but they won't be able to identify you, range you or make a proper lock on you. AMRAAM's have a home on jam mode where they lock on to the noise from your ECM, but it's inaccurate and it's difficult to know when to fire the AMRAAM since they don't know the exact range. As you close in on the target, the radar echos will get stronger and at a certain point it will be able to overpower the noise. It's important for you to know approximately where that is so that you can turn off your ECM when you get into this range, otherwise it's going to do you more harm than good. ECM in the game has no use within visual range as far as I know, but it might help you to quickly get from BVR to WVR which is important if you are in the Su-27 and the enemy have AMRAAMS. Is it worth trading two R-73's for ECM? You decide.
  7. I have 16gb but DCS only seem to use 4-6gb most of the time, so I think 8gb would be fine as long as your not running something in the background at the same time.
  8. I'm pretty sure you need oculus runtime 0.8.0.0. beta to make it work in DCS2.0.

  10. Could be a vram bandwidth bottleneck. Nvidia made some kind of strange design decision on the GTX 970 which causes the vram bandwidth to plummet when vram usage goes over 3,5gb. See this article for more information: http://www.pcgamer.com/why-nvidias-gtx-970-slows-down-using-more-than-35gb-vram/

I think what Zeus meant to say was that the doppler shift is then the same as it is for the ground clutter, which makes the contact disappear in the clutter.
  12. Reminds me of the Norwegian tender a few years ago where F-35 was competing against Gripen. Norway and their defence industry was involved with development of the F-35 beforehand and there's no doubt this had provided many job opportunities for Norwegian citizens. Also, they have close political relations to the US which they want to keep. In the end, the F-35 won obviously. Many people believe it was decided beforehand, and the only reason Gripen was invited to compete was so that they could get a better deal on the F-35's.

  14. DrDetroit did a good job. I will just add that they plan to merge everything into the 2.0 version in a few months. All this confusion is just temporary. If you don't want to participate in testing, then just wait until the others are released as stable. Your 1.2.16 will update to 1.5.2 sometime in december I think, then it will update again to 2.0 when that is finished.
  15. I can't say either as I'm running a 290X, but what I can say is that the 370 is nowhere close to the 290 series in performance, and I personally think the 370 might be slightly too weak for DCS 2.0 even at lower resolutions. Let me cite part of the recommended system specs for DCS 2.0: "GeForce GTX780 / ATI R9 290" (ED, please change ATI -> AMD, it's been almost ten years since they stopped using the name ATI :) ) Both of those cards are way faster than a 370 will ever be.
  16. Copyright is just a small part of intellectual property law. The issues are larger than just copyright.
  17. I think they are being a bit loose with the terminology and only called it an open alpha to distinguish it from the already existing open beta. If we didn't already have an open beta, they would probably have called 2.0 an open beta at release.
  18. Thrust vector control helps the missile turn at a very high angle of attack which helps point the nose of the missile so that the seeker can stay on target. It's the sum of the gimbal limit and the angle of attack that matters, not just the gimbal limit on it's own.
  19. Они сказали, что они загружены Cy-27 только с P-73, потому что это тяжело решать ее с полным снаряжения. Сy-27 является более опасным, и каждый знает, что. And by the way, this is the English part of the forums :)
  20. No. It will update automatically next time you launch the sim (1.5.1 open beta).
  21. No words from any devs. I wonder if they left the office thinking that they had uploaded the update, but forgot to do so? :)
  22. Single engine fighters usually have higher reliability requirements on the engines which is taken into consideration both when constructing the engine and when maintaining it. It's not uncommon to see zero mishap rates for single engine fighter these days.
  23. Not a bug. The update is not live yet. There's already another thread on this subject.
  24. It's convenient that they share anti ship missiles with the Viggen :)
