  1. Totally forgot, thanks for the mod Peter.
  2. I've managed to narrow it down some more. Large amounts tend to give a proportional FPS hit. However, it's true, smoking kills... FPS! Smoke and lightning cause huge drops, the more, the larger, the persistent, the worse the FPS. What can be done about this? GPU is already at 100% performance when it has to render the northern test zone with only my a/c in it.
  3. Is this perhaps possible, iPod style: mwheel up/down: browse mwheel click: activate radio menu, when radio menu is active: activate selected option right mouse: 'browser back', instantly go back a level on the menu
  4. Clipping, or seeing through objects, is an issue on systems with Intel IGP + Nvidia GPUs. You will need to set DCS.exe to use the Nvidia GPU (SkateZilla's comment) but this is not enough. In graphics.lua under low/medium/high are the clipping settings for near, mid, far. Set the near one to 0. By default it is set to 0.2 or 0.4. This also gives you on average +10FPS as the clipping reduces performance. PS: If you don't have an Intel IGP + Nvidia GPU, then the cause of the problem is something else and I can not guarantee this fix to work.
  5. With regards to updates, you still need to manually check the mods to see if they are still compatible. So Imho placing them in a folder to use regardless of updates will probably cause you to apply mods which -due to the update- aren't applicable anymore, at least in their current state.
  6. Ofcourse, you're right, I'm not basing it solely on supported RAM speed (though I'm fairly sure it's 2133) but I'm very interested in what an i7 4770k or 4820k has to offer an FX8350 doesn't. Since it's 130 bucks extra. So yes, I'd be glad to see your results!
  7. I will but I would also like some control material to verify my tests.
  8. Looks good! However, what does it do to FPS compared to vanilla textures? I know Toby himself said no influence but I'd like to know some results from different users/machines.
  9. What are opinions on the FX8350? 170 bucks vs 300 bucks for an i7. On top of that, FX8350 mobos range from 90 to 150 where i7 mobos range from 200 to 300. Finally, FX8350 + decent mobo supports 2133 RAM. i7 support 1800 RAM IIRC. I know Skatezilla runs one and his rig looks like he's still prepped for a Soviet tank invasion after all these years..
  10. I recall back in the 1.1.1.1 days I manually copy/paste commands inside the LUA file. It allows for two functions to be bound to 1 key press event. However, I don't recall which LUA file it was, you'd have to find that out yourself. Also, be aware of the syntax and don't change binds in the ingame menu or it'll totally override your hand made changes. Good luck.
  11. Dagger17, it does work for sure. I did it as well. Install a full 1.2.6 DCSW + modules. Then run DCS_updater.exe with the -update 1.2.5 parameter. You can either make a shortcut and put the parameter in the path, or just Win+R and type in the path. Path should look like: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Bin\DCS_updater.exe" -update 1.2.5 Unless you've changed it, obviously.Note, you need to place the closing quotation mark " directly after the file extension, prior to the space and dash of the parameter.
  12. Regarding the opening post, I did a full evening of testing and came up with the following results: Baseline, clean northern area: 46FPS 32x SA-6 radar or 32x Abrams northern area: 46FPS here come the hitters: MSAA 4x + AF 4x: -7FPS Navigation light strips ON: -10FPS > annoying Clouds with rain and lightning storms: -20FPS > unplayable Clean Batumi airport with no units around except those 'units' rendered as buildings: -6FPS > playable together with MSAA + AF NOE dives for gun runs: -15FPS during the dive > difficult to maintain control TGP on: -5FPS Zoomed-in explosion on TGP screen: -10FPS > annoying Dumping 1 flare: no change Dumping 10 flares: -5FPS So what's the issue here? CPU GPU? At no time do I have a fully loaded thread in taskmgr so I'd say graphics card but I'm not sure whether knowing a thread is never fully loaded is enough to deduct it being the GPU.
  13. Loading times prior to a sortie or loading stutters during flight? I'd say loading times prior to a sortie are irrelevant anyway.
  14. If that is the case, anybody not coping with a RAM shortage would want the highest possible pre load radius...
  15. What does pre-loading do technically, does it render objects in advance and cache them in the VRAM? If so, I'd argue to set it to something like 10,000 metres to have as much of the VRAM available for on-the-fly processing of new/unforeseen objects, which are probably the majority vs. pre-rendered object. Anybody wanna help me out?
  16. Verified. If you want to get 1.2.5 back for now, run: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update 1.2.5Given that you did not alter default paths. It'll re-download 1.2.5 files if it doesn't find them locally. Downloaded a rough 1.5Gb and I'm back to 1.2.5. No more FPS drops so far.
  17. Do you have a link for the 1.2.5 World + A10C module installation source?
  18. Obviously, setting related changes might have become obsolete. However, I assume the FX files are still usable, aren't they?
  19. As much as I appreciate the intention to help, a 3R is not going to help with FPS/instability if a conflict exists between the installed software and the hardware it has to run on.
  20. To ED, I think I speak for all of us when I say I'd would like to see a solution as soon as possible. Up untill then, would you provide us with a mirror or torrent for the latest 1.2.5.xxx World installer and A-10C installer? Again, this also grants all of us the possibility to double check and even to help rule out possible factors reducing FPS and/or creating crashes.
  21. I think this deserves a general topic.. I too am having these issues. Especially when effects like lightning and smoke come in, at points where I didn't have any FPS drops in 1.2.5. Seeing as more people suffer from this, I think it'd be fair if ED could give a reaction. Also, can we download the full 1.2.5 install until this is fixed? This gives us the possibility to double check whether it is the update to 1.2.6 or not as well.
  22. 1.2.5 + update to 1.2.6: FPS drop Clean reinstall of 1.2.6: same FPS drop I'm deliberately making "yet another topic" about it as one consolidated topic has a fair chance of ending up on page 3 within 72 hours. I find it very odd that I, among others who reported it as well, all of a sudden have an FPS drop after 1.2.6 hence I'm blaming 1.2.6 for now. Would be nice if we'd recieve a reaction from ED about it. Mostly FPS drops when smoke or light effects have to be rendered, if that is useful information. PS: Obviously I did not start changing settings to rule that out as a factor.
  23. Hover taxiing can be accomplished in two ways, either with the cyclic or the nacelles. There is no magic number differentiating when to use one over the other, but its much more efficient to use the nacelles if moving more than just a couple of aircraft lengths. Probably where you got your intel from as well:http://www.verticalmag.com/features/features_article/20112-flying-the-v-22.html#.UisGcT9wjIU I think this answers how forward flight is achieved in helicopter mode. Although "no magical number" exists, I'm sure the military have their procedures and guidelines for this.
  24. I knew the first two paragraphs, but thanks for repeating. Especially the Israeli pilot's comments are useful. Where did you get the retired pilot interview from? I think it indeed proves the blade pitch is the main channel to alter thrust, in both airplane and helicopter mode, and in between. However, as far as I understand, in airplane mode the normal operation rpm is 84% so I assume it is around 100% in helicopter mode to provide more overall power.
