Tiger Cruise 2018 (CVN-70, lots of images)
Apache600 replied to Apache600's topic in Military and Aviation
Some more cat launch stuff Everybody coming together At the end of the first airshow (there were 2) we went to the fan tail to watch the arrivals. it was pretty damn awesome Day two of the airshows started off with a picturesque view Ok ... now LAUNCH 'EM!!! A busy flight deck Mid-air refueling demo Here we stayed up on Vulture's row for the recoveries. 3 wire! Dumping fuel to make landing weight Another recovery The Skipper later poked fun at himself for driving the boat into the only rainstorm on the horizon (during recoveries no less) This made an aircraft switch from Case 1 to Case 3. Making things more difficult was that this plane was low on fuel, and the tanker already dumped his ... so if he missed, they would have had to scramble up a tanker F-18 to refuel him. He made it on without issue though thankfully. Boat coming abeam for the sea demo. During the sea power demonstration, the 3 escort ships all came along side and showed us some of their shooty thingies. It was really cool to see the shells hitting the water way in the distance. -
A friend of mine from the community, and someone who I fly with regularly, invited me along on something called a Tiger Cruise. He's a member of the Navy, so once every blue moon they get an opportunity to invite family or friends along on the boat that they're serving on. And they do this after a deployment on it's trip home. (This particular trip was from Honolulu to San Diego) As he described to me what this "cruise" entailed, my jaw hit the desk, and my envy for going on such a trip went through the roof. If only I could convince the wife to letting me out of the house for a week. Just a quick background on myself, and why this meant so much to me ... as a child, I was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 7. Some people say they have "asthma" ... and they might. But then some unfortunate souls REALLY have "ASTHMA". And I was one of those. This disease nearly killed me on 5 separate occasions. As a kid, I couldn't go anywhere without my inhaler. If I even went to the grocery store, and forgot my inhaler, a panic attack would ensue, as would an asthma attack shortly afterwards. In high school, I suffered from it more than ever. I couldn't make it half way down a soccer field without keeling over. This really hit hard because I had played for 7 years before that, and was quite good at it. And it got to the point where if I went from a cold classroom to a hot classroom, that would do it. A week before turning 13, I intercepted a letter from the air force addressed to my older brother. "screw him" I thought "I'm the one that wants the air force more than anyone else". So I opened it, and can clearly remember half way down, third paragraph, second bullet, it said " - automatic disqualification includes anyone over the age of 13, with a history of asthma." Needless to say ... I was crushed. My grades in high school slipped, because why did I care? The idiot in the back of biology class, who can't tie his shoes correctly, was going to the Army after high school. But I, who could basically list every weapon, tank, aircraft, ship, and associated stats, can't go anywhere I wanted to. No one in my family, and no one I knew, was a pilot or knew of a pilot; so it seemed that the military was the only way to get into any flying program. Long story short, I pulled my grades together because figured I needed to make a living doing something. And later, just before graduating college, I found out I could fly commercially with no restrictions (also ... asthma is still in my life, but no where near what it used to be. I can run a 5k without any problems now.) So today I get to do what I've always dreamed of.... minus the afterburner. These 5 days on the USS Carl Vinson was a brief view into a life that I always wanted to live, but never could. Without further ado, here's some photo's from the trip: Heads up, I don't have any action shots on the camera (save for a couple things), I did most all the airshow/seashow bomb and gun demonstrations on my camcorder. The flight into Hawaii was on a United 777. It was actually booked to 100%, so because of the perks of my job, I still got on, but had to take a seat in the cockpit jumpseat. Boats, boats, and more boats! A picture from the first time we went up on the deck (in port) Here I am with my friend on the flight deck. All the gouges from the tail-hooks striking the deck Me trying to do an artistic angle shot of the cat (and all it's glorious red grease) No words for this (Arizona memorial with the Battleship Missouri beyond. The beginning and the end of WWII for the US, and we're sailing past it on one of the most powerful ships the world has ever seen) Getting pulled out of the dock via multiple tugs I'll take "what is the most expensive collection of hardware in one frame, for $400, Alex" A view down a "p-way" at night. I got lost many a time on this ship. It wasn't until day 4 that I started feeling comfortable making my way around. Even then though, it was horribly inefficient, as I would go out of my way to stay on known paths. Our 4-star sleeping quarters. We actually had it good as there were only 3 bunks in this cubicle. The one Fumes had was the standard 6. Here's my best friend from childhood that I got to bring along. Never been out of sight of land before. This was an incredible sight The first of many FOD walk-downs. Alright, let's start launching this s***! The escort wanted to come by and watch too YES YES YES Oh lord it was amazing AGAIN!

Well that's pretty dang cool! Thanks for pointing that out saburo.

Hello there, Today a buddy of mine and I were flying the 190, and noticed that in order for the landing gear to have power, the Instrument Lighting CB had to be pushed in. Also, the gun sight seemed to only work with that same CB in. Both of us experienced this, and both tried raising and lowering the gear with the Instrument Lighting CB both in and out (LDG CB was always in) We both encountered this same issue. Negative. You can kind of do it with helicopters, using the "land" feature in advanced way point actions. The only way you could mimic touch and go's with a fixed wing is to have the landing aircraft deactivate after it slows to a certain speed on the runway, and then spawn an exact copy of it from "takeoff from runway" from the same airport.

Hey Splash, here are some comments that have been left by other users: Animaal: TaxManTom: And here's a really nice review written up by TheDoctorB: Even though some of these folks mention that they fly the F-86 version of the campaign, the two campaigns are basically identical. Hope this helps you out! - Apache600

I've been having an issue with the ENR mode, once you go into RTN or LNDG, it never cycles back to ENR mode. Happened twice now, both times in MP. I've tried going into different A-A modes, and A-G, and then back to NAV, but to no avail. ENR works fine, just as long as I don't accidentally cycle away from that mode.

Trim until you can't possibly trim anymore. ... then trim some more.

Museum Relic Mig 15 campaign finished.
Apache600 replied to Sydy's topic in The Museum Relic Campaign
Campaign stories are no different. Just replace MiG-15 with F-86. If you flew the F-86 version, all your allies were NATO and enemies were Russian. In the MiG-15 campaign it is the other way around. -
That sounds about right Mango, haha. But yeah ... those guys should be good and parked at Sukhumi well before then. Regardless though, this engagement can be a bit tricky, and A.I. personalities will change with version updates. I would recommend getting down to the deck and flying treetop level on the way back.

Good to hear. with the engagement afterwards, you don't have to stay for that fight. It's probably best you don't actually :) -

Prison Break Download Link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3300529/ Larger Briefing images here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xWlO1D3OP9ZrQ53i58W-D8YtRHrJDe9P A mission requiring coordinated effort among players in order to be successful. This mission requires at least 2 players to complete. One player has to have 1 of 2 modules. 1) Combined Arms module, and occupy the “Tactical Commander” slot, then select a ground vehicle. 2) UH-1 or Mi-8, which can be occupied after Jean Airport has been taken back. The other player can select whichever aircraft platform they desire. This mission should be played in an order of specified objectives laid out in the briefing. Good luck and have fun! -- Briefing Gentlemen, as we’re all aware now, a dire situation unfolded in the city of Las Vegas a few days ago. The enemy conducted a surprise attack and poured into the city fr om the west, taking control of the entire area. During the ambush, we lost a number of our peace keeping forces there, and the rest were forced to retreat from the city as we were severely understaffed and outnumbered. However, we’ve just learned that the only captured soldier of ours, a Lieutenant Dan, is now slated for execution later tonight. We’ve pinpointed his location in a prison just west of the Bellagio casino, and have devised a plan to extract him. Thankfully, we have had a little break in all this bad luck. There are two possible routes to take for an extraction. 1) A couple of our men were able to hide out, with their vehicles, near the Circus Circus Casino and have completely avoided detection. We’ve made contact with them and they are more than willing to help us out with our plan. 2) At the Jean airport, the pilots to the UH-1 and Mi-8 were off base at the time the airport was taken. They are in a few M818 Transport trucks hiding in a warehouse in the city. Once they hear that the threats at the airport have been neutralized, they'll head back and recrew thier helo's. Now, let’s discuss the plan. Ground Units: Our men in the ground vehicles will need to be careful, the enemy is scattered throughout the city. Our recon notes show that the safest path is actually straight down the Vegas Strip Boulevard. There is one caveat though, there’s a dedicated enemy “Strip Lookout” group stationed just south of the Circus Circus Casino, on the Boulevard. They will need to be dealt with before anything else. Make sure you destroy their Comm vehicle first, as that is what they would use to relay any attack in the vicinity. Next, they will continue down the Boulevard until they see the wreckage site between the Mirage and the Bellagio hotel. At that same intersection, they’ll head west towards the Prison, which is located just on the other side of the freeway and west frontage road. It may be wisest to stay at a distance from the prison, remain hidden, and lase the enemy vehicles for our air units to hit. Once the prison area is secure, they’ll drive to the prison and make contact with Lieutenant Dan, plant C4 at the walls, and extract him. Afterwards, they’ll coordinate with an orbiting C-130 and arrange a pickup at McCarran International Airport. They’ll then head back to the strip and proceed southbound along the Boulevard. To the east of the Mandalay Bay hotel, they’ll break through the airports perimeter fence, and make their way to the east side of the airport wh ere they will meet up with the C-130. All the while though, they’ll have to be on the lookout. The enemy is sure to know about this rescue operation after the prison is attacked. Air Units: You’ve got 2 jobs to do today. One: secure air superiority over the city; this will be helped by an orbiting AWACs. And two: provide cover/recon for the ground or helo rescue units as they extract the prisoner and then head to McCarran for an awaiting transport aircraft, or to our Solar Base if it was a helo rescue. The enemy has had a few days to set up now, so expect some sort of AAA/SAM resistance. The departure airbases are unfortunately quite a distance away, so rearming could take a considerable amount of time away from providing the much needed close air support for our ground boys. Luckily, we have a few units that fled the Jean airport before it was overrun, and they’re positioned to get it up and running again once all the enemy units there are neutralized. After that, you’ll be able to rearm and refuel and use the Jean airport as a forward operating base. The helo's stationed there will also be recrewed at this time. Helo Units: The route into Vegas is heavily defended from all sides. Be on a constant lookout for enemy units as you head towards the prison. Once you extract the LT. the flight to the Solar Base won't be any easier. The interstate leading towards the city of Boulder is also expected to be well defended. - End of Briefing - Update Log: v2.0: Added 2 F1-CE’s v1.9: All Blue flights coalition changed to Blue Task Force Added 2 AH-64's Radio's set for Spawn airport and Ch.2 set to AWACs v1.8: Added 2 MI-24's v1.7: Updated atmospheric conditions for new cloud system. v1.6: Replaced one A-10A with an A-10C II v1.5: Removed AAR probes from JF-17 v1.4: Added 3 F-16’s. F-86F, mission 14, P-51D not attacking power plant
Apache600 replied to pawel's topic in The Museum Relic Campaign
Hello there pawel, I think the issue might be due to problems with AI Task Push triggers. I hope that the next open beta update addresses this. If not, deeper digging will certainly ensue. I'm glad that you're enjoying the campaign so far. I too hope that these issues will be resolved soon! - Apache600 -
Thanks for the reports. I'll take a look soon, unfortunately I'll be away from my computer that can run these for the next few days. Since you're running the Open Beta, I am wondering if some of these issues may be the same that Baltic Dragon mentioned in a different post.

Updated missions: Krasnodar Variable, Las Vegas Variable, and Under the Fuzz. @Zarma, correct, that was my hope ... to preload those aircraft into the memory. But I'm not sure how effective it really is as there is still some heavy lag hits when a client spawns into a previously unused aircraft. You'd have to do it manually, as I have them set as static objects, and you can't group static objects together. -
Haha, we're a little slow sometimes :P

Thanks for explaing Baltic Dragon. @ Rolds, thanks for the report! please let me know if you're playing on the 2.5.1 beta, or the 2.5 stable.

Mell, thanks for the feedback! I just looked at the mission, and saw the particular "very hard" scenario you were talking about. I'm guessing that after your first attack run, some of the units probably dispersed ... and into the sea they went. I can't control the direction in which they run, or the distance, only if they do so or not. I do want them to disperse as they are rather clumped up initially. So I moved them a little further inland, hoping that they won't run off and become submarines. That version will be v1.1 and will be out in the future. The whole group does have to be destroyed. There may only a few missions (can't remember if in Krasnodar or a different mission) where I have a % required. They are usually only used when there are infantry units involved, as they can be very difficult to see. And about various missions running at the same time, the way I have the triggers set for mission selection ... it would take a revamp of the triggers to make that work, and I'm sorry, but I don't think I really want to do that. It would take a very long time, and with other projects in the works, I probably won't be doing that. Sorry about that! If you find any other issues, please let me know! Thanks again - Apache600 -

Zurma, there are Harrier's in the Krasnodar mission, 4 of the. Look under "AV-8B" in the slot selection. They should be "ground start" locations, as I just placed them on an unused ramp at Krasnodar instead of a specified parking spot. And for the Vegas mission, I don't have that, or the sling load mission running. In the briefing, and the description, it says this: "Mission Still Under Construction: - Helo Missions: Stratosphere Sling, Mountain Rescue" I'll get to it one of these days :) When I was first working on the Mountain Rescue site, I didn't like the area I was wanting to use, because the AI would clip through a river bed. So I moved on to other mission areas, and haven't yet gotten back to that one. - Apache600
