How much ram do you have. This used to happen to me a lot until I got 24Gb of RAM. There are still server lags but it’s not nearly as regular is it used to be

Rift s $70 off boxing day deal. Would you buy it?
ricktoberfest replied to Gogojuice's topic in Virtual Reality
I bought one on Boxing Day and having a blast. So far just single player getting used to it. Of course there are more expensive headsets out there but the rift S is more than enough to start with. I don’t even mind the sound out of the headset either. It’s not as bad as I imagined after hearing so much about it. -
Hornet doesn't have proper controls..???
ricktoberfest replied to Pitufo's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I think he wanted an axis -
The only thing extending the wheel does is shorten the takeoff roll so no need to do it unless needed for a shorter takeoff. Never while your doing a touch and go

Sometimes a week, usually a month or so (unless there’s no bugs or a popular module was released)

will this rig run dcs in vr well?
ricktoberfest replied to ambision's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I’m using a i5 3570k and it’s ok, but what you’re showing there is only 1 generation newer and is not worth $1000 Also you’re showing DDR3 ram which may or may not work with that motherboard, I’m pretty sure most 4th gen Intel use DDR4 ram If you want cheap, go with an I5 6600k or maybe a Ryzen 3600k The only way I’d go with a 4th gen I5 is of it was super cheap (I.e. almost free). Cause it sure won’t be worth anything if you try and sell it later when it doesn’t meet your expectations. -
Unfortunately the Vega is likely here to stay as I just bought it a few months ago for a steal of a deal and an Nvidia card to match it would cost as much as I’d spend on the rest of the new computer. Thanks though

Calibrated airspeed (HUD) vs Air/Ground speed (HSI)
ricktoberfest replied to lascaris's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The F18 hud shows indicated air speed, which generally gets lower the higher up you are as there’s less air pressure. -
So a question for those who have had lower end systems. I’ve got the chance this holiday season to either get a Rift S as is, or upgrade my system and get a Rift S another 6 months down the line. My system runs DCS just fine right now although in multiplayer heavy servers it slows down a bit at the airports when there’s a lot of traffic, but goes back up as soon as I’m away from there. So should I get a new computer first, or get the Rift and run it on a lower end system for 6 months and then upgrade? Current system: I5 3570K @ 4.5 GHz 24 Gb of DDR3 RAM @ 1800Mhz Vega 64 @ stock or slightly undervolted setting New system: AMD 3600X (probably with an overclock) 32 Gb RAM (somewhere around 3200Mhz) Vega 64 still Low FPS doesn’t bother me as long as it’s not choppy, and my family would use the Rift for other games that I’m sure would run just fine as is, but we all know how demanding DCS is I’ve been patiently waiting for VR for years now and it’s finally at the point where it makes sense to me (clarity and computer power)

Good to know. I’ve never tested all that before. I usually just use the steerpoint as my CCRP start point and engage the LSS about 15 miles away as I’m coming in. It usually picks up the target within a minute or so
-
Did you aim your targeting pod in the general direction? That’s what I do. The main issue I have had is that there’s no hud indicator of what the TGP sees.
-
Try turning off the datalink and see if that helps. I’m not on VR but datalink on the f16 kills my FPS by 10-20
-
left-Control and Shift and Esc a couple times
-
We’re you flying the f16? I noticed when I turned on my Nav system and all the contacts appeared on my HSD I dropped from mid 40s down to less than 10 FPS. I think there’s some optimizing that needs to happen there. Turning my nav back to align immediately restored the FPS

We have AI Wingmen - Why not AI Flight Leads??
ricktoberfest replied to Notso's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Because in real life they communicate with either radio or hand signals their intention to change course or speed. I’m not talking about in a dogfight of course, just flying to and from the target. If the AI could be programmed to radio course and speed calls it would make it somewhat usable. -
We have AI Wingmen - Why not AI Flight Leads??
ricktoberfest replied to Notso's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
You actually can set yourself up as the wingman right now, but it’s not really helpful. So much of what makes a good wingman relies on communication with the lead and right now the AI doesn’t do that. Just trying to follow in formation becomes very difficult when you have no idea when or how the lead will maneuver, let alone what speed they will maintain and targets they will attack. It’s more like follow the leader than being a real wingman. -
Thanks. I thought something was going on. Good to know about a work around too. I didn’t experiment, just started using TOO mode instead
-
Anybody actually have SP mode pick the highest threat though? It always seems to target some far off search radar for me when I’m being engaged by an sa15
-
With TOO more you can filter out types of radar and kinda see where it is in relation to your aircraft

Look at the update from just a little while ago. There was a problem that should have been fixed -
Multiple actions bound to one button
ricktoberfest replied to Madfish's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In my case, I use my pinky button as a modifier button, and a first stage of my trigger for e F5 gun flaps and the A10C PAC mode. Also have a button that’s the master arm with a short press, and master lights with a long press. It’s just a good way of using the keyboard less. -
Multiple actions bound to one button
ricktoberfest replied to Madfish's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use joystick gremlin which creates a virtual joystick. I can then assign a button like normal, and also a virtual button, and even a long press virtual button. So 3 possible presses on one button easily. And it’s free
