  1. Landing the Hog actually is easy. The approach speed is quite slow, it offers good visibility in all regimes of flight and the gear is pretty wide and sturdy. So yeah, getting her down is not all that hard, making it look good at the same time requires some practice though. And then there are those times when you limp home with half your wing missing, the tail pretty much gone and running on only one engine. That´s when landings do become interesting. :D As for the ATC, it is broken in pretty much every way you can think of. To be honest, I myself just ignore it. I am sure it will be fixed eventually, but it´s probably not at the top of the priority list over at ED. Zooming in: Just moving your head forward won´t make the text get any bigger, you need to zoom in for that. I use the TM Warthog HOTAS and have put the zoom on the right hand side friction slider. Maybe there is something similar on your stick/throttle that you can assign the zoom to.
  2. I served in the army, and when it was about time to get out I was actually offered to be trained to be an attack helicopter pilot (you could list three favorite assignments when you joined up, and I put "helicopter pilot" on top of my list. Needless to say the entire list was ignored and they made me a grunt. Yay.). The type wasn´t clear yet, but in hindsight it probably would have been the Tiger. The only drawback was that I would have had to sign up for an additional 12 years, and that was at a time when I was seriously sick and tired of all the BS that comes with army life. I was thinking about it long and hard, but in the end I decided to decline the offer and get out. Back in the civilian life I studied rescue engineering and then went on to become a firefigher. Training was hard but worth it. Haven´t looked back ever since, best job in the world by far.
  3. Such are the dangers of our profession. RIP to the fallen brothers. :(
  4. Or wait till the first time you sit in a movie theater and frantically move your head around because you wanna see the thing that is juuuuuuust a touch to the left of the screen. Just pray your friends don´t notice... you´ll never hear the end of it. :D
  5. Whoopsie... :music_whistling: In my defense, english is not my first language (not even my second one for that matter), so I need to make stupid mistakes like that every now and then to keep myself in check. ;) As for Mr. Badger, he can´t be from the US of A. If he were his handle would most probably be "GrayBadger". :smartass:
  6. I like how at 0:20 the chopper makes a Stuka sound when going down... :D
  7. Don´t have anything to add (except another voice saying "setting up TrackIR is easy, don´t worry about it"), but just wanted to say that I love your humor, Badger. I´m gonna go out on a limp here and assume you are from the UK, right? ;)
  8. Thx, I consulted your signature before making the post... :D
  9. The following is what I think, I will not sugarcoat it in any way, shape or form. Deal with it. If you believe in political correctness you may wanna skip this posting altogether. alphacharlieecho, I am glad you dislike this sim and hope you will turn your back on it as soon as possible. People like you are exactly the kind of people I do not want to have to deal with, and you do nothing to improve the community. Please go back to the FPS community or whatever mainstream gaming place you came from, where you will fit right in with your whining, short attention span, hardware bragging and unwillingness to obtain information on your own. Obviously simming is not for you, because if it were you would have realized that the DCS series - despite all its shortcomings - is the best goddamned thing that has happened to the simming community ever since the days of Falcon 4.0. So yeah, kthxbye, and don´t let the door hit you on your way out.
  10. Just asked another friend, who also just so happens to be a weapons troop at Luke AFB, and this is his answer:
  11. Awesome clip... You could tell his wife was thinking "as soon as the cameras are off you are SO gonna pay for this". :D
  12. A friend of mine is an F-16 weapons troop at Luke AFB, and I called him earlier today to ask. He said you are spot on, Sierra99. Also he yelled at me for calling him in the middle of the night for a question like that. Forgot about the time difference. Ooops... :D
  13. Just FYI, he is not an A-10 pilot, but a weapons troop.
  14. Check out the link below, makes it a bit easier to understand. Don´t worry about it though, it eventually becomes muscle memory and you don´t even think about it any more. Click me gently, I am a picture.
  15. True, but I sure as hell aint gonna drill a hole through that one too... :D
  16. Tired of newbies? Hell no, the more the merrier. Fetch a beer, sit down and relax with the rest of us. Oh, and do want a steak or a burger? As for tips... have you received the TM Warthog already? In case you haven´t, make sure to videotape yourself when you unbox that thing. I for one couldn´t stop giggling like a little girl for ten minutes straight when I wrapped my hands around it for the first time.
  17. I would say there is no such thing as "overpowered" when it comes to combat aircraft. :D
  18. Hate to be the spoilsport here, but IMHO that entire "Harlem Shake" phenomenon was somewhat funny the first 2000 times I´ve seen it. By now it just annoys me...
  19. Oh, they are being replaced with the new "Nothing Mk.1". Yep, seriously. I remember when they were shooting at towed targets, they were very often precise enough to be able to actually shoot off the cable the target was being towed with, making it fall into the sea. Good times...
  20. Saw them live many times on the range at Putlos when I served. Awesome machine, and incredibly precise. No need to spray and pray, that thing hits smack in the middle! Too bad they have all been decommissioned by now, would have been the perfect weapon for Afghanistan. Punches through everything without being the overkill of a MBT.
  21. Thx for the pics. I guess removing the primer like in your pic would be an even better way to demonstrate it´s not a live round. Btw, you should make another picture with the rounds next to the TM Warthog so we can better appreciate their size. :)
  22. Yup, that´s what they told me as well. In that case I´ll just have a friend of mine (from the US) order it and then ship it to me. I already contacted the local customs office, and they were surprisingly relaxed about it. The guy I talked to even knew the A-10 and the GAU-8, and he said all they want to see is that there is no propellant in the shell (and of course no explosives either). He told me it´s a good idea to drill a little hole into the side of the shell and also to maybe put two or three little metal balls (like those in spraycans) inside it, so anyone can shake it and see there is no propellant in there. Other than that they have no problems with it, it´s totally legal and all. I really didn´t expect that, considering the strict weapon laws over here. So yeah... the next step will be to try to order the GAU-8 itself, I guess... :D
  23. Thanks for the addy, I´ll drop them a line. Now the next question would be: Even if they do ship to Germany, how big a fit will they throw at customs...? :D
