  1. I'm really interested in how that Mamba handles. Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever buy another joystick with a non-metal cast handle now that I own a Thrustmaster HOTAS...
  2. Haven't learned the A-10C yet because I'm enjoying the SU-25T a little too much. That said, the biggest advice I can give to you is get ready to spend a few hours going through all of the controls and deleting anything not relevant to the actual aircraft. This may sound a little bit odd, but I spent way too much time using the key controls "as-is" instead of finding an optimal solution and stock DCS has a lot of stuff you don't actually need hardwired to the keyboard. I am not sure what you are using but since I have a HOTAS, pedals and TrackIR I was able to eliminate almost 30% of the key settings(including all camera control/padlock control keys.) Once you get rid of what you don't need and understand the rest of the basic keys for operating DCS itself, then you can actually begin to focus on learning the individual aircraft better. I am not sure when I will begin learning the warthog myself, but I know once I've got DCS itself down that learning the HOG will be much more enjoyable.
  3. Have the AI pilots lost their ability to spot enemy units recently? I swear when I played the first SU-25T campaign mission last year that my AI wingman was spotting units 50km away and now he's lucky if he sees something at 15km. As it sits, personally I would like to see a way to play the game without using labels or the F10 map to see enemy units but at the same time have something like a pen/paper(maybe on the kneeboard) for the pilot to automatically say "killed 3 here, have 3 more reported here." That would probably be an utter pain for the developers to implement, but at the same time, it seems unlikely that they will implement ground units calling out airstrikes to the pilot... For me, using F2-F12 feels like cheating, as does labels, but at the same time, there needs to be a compromise for the sake of the user because there is an obvious lack of communication that would be present in real life. Just another side question: at what actual distance can real pilots spot things like tank formations? In the simulator it seems like in the SU-25T, anything over 5km would be almost impossible to see and yet constantly scanning terrain with the SHKVL would be somewhat, if not totally impractical.
  4. I have to go back and admit I actually played the first 7 missions without knowing anything about the IR Jammer, not that it seems to make that big of a difference versus MANPADS for me but I turn it on every time now. As for that night mission you mentioned, it's necessary to turn off the external aircraft lighting isn't it?
  5. You can use a program called joy2key to cause your rudder axis to generate a keypress. I am using it with the Su-25T. Just set the program to the number of joysticks you have (3 if HOTAS + Pedals), find the correct axis, set to W (I think) and then test it in notepad before you launch. http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm

    Recommendations?

I think a more relevant question is what do you want to fly and what kind of role do you want to play? If anything, picking up flaming cliffs will give you a huge variety of aircraft to play with and is probably not a bad idea... (Ironically, I don't own it myself, waiting for the next sale...)
  7. I'm still waiting for either: 1. A drone-only aircraft carrier. 2. Drone-carrying submarine. The day those come out...well...yeah...
  8. Second this, I'd like to know how to do this as well but I don't think it's possible. It's all or nothing at the moment.
  9. Also be sure to check out the Slaw Device from Poland / slawdevice@gmail.com I just got mine in a week ago and they are absolutely amazing in every aspect. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=115807&highlight=slaw
  10. Run my own English school in a small town in Japan. Originally from central Wisconsin, USA.
  11. SU-25T - Georgian Oil War Campaign I just wanted to see a quick show of how many people have either: 1. Played the campaign to its end completely. A. With no invulnerability / Re-spawning (But not excluding plane repairs on the runway.) B. Cheating (Invulnerability / Plane Re-spawning) 2. Played it partially. 3. Skipped it entirely.
  12. Hate to ask again but what cables are you actually using to power that TV? (Displayport or HDMI?) 3840x2160 @ 30hz( assuming max 30fps?)
  13. I'll say this, after wearing through a Saitek X-52 and countless other joysticks the warthog is a godsend. It's nice to have a joystick that doesn't feel like a cheap piece of plastic in your hands. If its still sliding around on you, maybe try some of that non-slip rubber covering that's normally for use in cupboards and on shelving. You should be able to cut it to size and get it fitting perfectly. Just remember a good joystick is like a good woman. If she ain't making you work for success, you ain't really tryin...
  14. AlphaOneSix, can you clarify what you mean by having feet on the floor and on the pedals? I've never heard an actual pilot mention anything like this and I remember keeping both feet on the pedals when I had a training flight in a Cesna years ago.
  15. I guess the only thing to do is put in a feature request for separate on/blinking/off options. Thanks for the information about cockpit lights. That will solve at least one problem.
  16. So this isn't possible and won't be possible any time soon?
  17. May I ask what the overall weight of the MFG pedals is? I'm very curious versus the Slaw Device... Also, can the MFG's be bolted to the floor of a cockpit?
  18. So if I buy FC3 am I still obligated to buy 1 or 2?
  19. I just got my Slaw Device pedals in from Poland two days ago. I intentionally passed up any pedals by CH products or Saitek because I knew they would just be cheap plastic. The Slaw Device pedals, from the moment I took them out of the box, have been nothing but a dream. They worked the instant I plugged them in without any drivers. They are of an all solid steel construction and can easily be serviced even by a non-technical fan(not that any should be needed for any length of time. Sitting next to my Warthog HOTAS they look and fit right in. The price is about the same as the MFG. I didn't know those existed until today actually. Looking at MFG's video, his pedals look physically lighter than the Slaw Device which weighs in at 7kg. I would appreciate if someone could confirm the overall weight. Video of MFG: Photos of the Slaw Device from another thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1910482
  20. Why am I getting deja vu from this thread?
  21. Hello, I've been doing night missions in the SU-25T recently and I'd like to be able to map the following separately instead of having them as "toggles" if possible. These keys all cycle between either 2 or 3 modes which doesn't work with the toggle switches on my HOTAS Cougar. As a result I can't verify the settings without viewing the aircraft from the outside or flipping the switches again and again to see the result. Any advice? 22. Wouldn't worry about that. Heaven is a place where even pilotless drones have 6DOF cockpits. :)
  23. I did intentionally say "not to be facetious." Obviously, you've been on this forum for a long time. Have you stopped to taken the time to consider that new users to THIS forum are: 1. Unaware of who the actual forum leaders are or who the ED testing people are, aside from the rank underneath their names and are only formally introduced after either making an incorrect assumption about the game or about ED? 2. Looking for information that is buried in thousands of posts over timelines that are years long? 3. Frustrated, more than anything, with the fact that they spend more time trying to get accurate and correct information through an outdated BBS style system of communication than playing the game? I am not making a personal attack on you in any way. This is, definitely and most unmistakably, an attack on forum systems altogether. I honestly believe that if 3rd party mods(not the modules) were correctly bundled and easily install-able, along with add-on's like SweetFX being included with the game itself, that ED could save people a lot of time and frustration. Isn't that the real goal of these forums? To make the gaming experience better by facilitating communication? (Too long, didn't read) DCS is pretty good. It can be made better with mods but finding and installing them is a horrendously time consuming and frustrating process.
  24. Not to be facetious but do they even speak English? And just as a side note, this conversation is going nowhere and isn't being even remotely productive. If you really want to do something useful, why don't you gather and assemble all of the current mods into one nice big "make DCS better" package so that way new DCS users can find it and download it easy. Spend your time actually making something that will help people...
  25. If anyone has a broken track clip that still sends signals but won't stand on it's own I'll take it. I'd love to have a spare to try to mold onto my headphones... (Sorry, I hope begging isn't against the rules...)
