1. This is actually a legitimate question by the way. I wasn't expecting it to be derailed on the first response. I've never heard you should only use your lips when drinking from a straw. Living in Japan has shown me this culture likes to leave nothing to chance.
2. Ok, to make a very long story short: My wife and I and are expecting a baby and in Japan it is a requirement for parents to attend several classes on proper parenting. During the class today we were given a lesson on proper drinking straw usage for babies (and adults). The idea being that you aren't supposed to touch the straw with your tongue or teeth, but only grip and suck the tip of the straw with your lips, pulling any liquid between your teeth and into your mouth. I'm American and my wife is Japanese and neither of us have heard of any studies, medical or otherwise to back this claim up. I spent a while looking on Google and couldn't find anything specific to the location of the straw in the mouth, only that using or not using straws may have health benefits. And now I'd like to ask my fellow pilots who have straw-usage experience: Teeth and Tongue? Or Lips only? Which way do you use a straw while flying? What was the combat scenario you were involved in and were their any casualties, cavities or otherwise in your experience?
3. Private message him and email it directly. Sorry to hear you had problems with the update. On my computer everything went smooth.
4. Sure, this is off the top of my head: Mode Selection: Nav Mode Air to Air Air to Ground Targetting Rectical Optical Systems On/Off Night Vision On/Off Laser On/Off SHKVL Targeting(left/right,up/down) SHKVL ZOOM (in/out) SHKVL Target Size(Smaller/Larger) Lock Target Weapon Selection Cannon Selection Fire(Main Trigger) Flares Chaff IRJamming Alarm Silence Cockpit Lights Electrical Systems On/Off Engine Left/Right Start/Stop Gear Parachute Brakes AirBrakes Flaps (maybe Cockpit Open/Close) There are a number of firing/spread buttons I have mapped, but to be honest, I find I don't use them very often and instead I rely heavily on the KH-29T/L and Vikhr's to get the work done so really, SHKVL control/Laser/Weapons Selection/Firing are most important. I still need the keyboard for miscellaneous tasks/radio/camera control.
5. Actually since I am going to be a father maybe now would be a good time to put together a coloring book using this plugin...
6. I was just about to ask if there was a way to revert DCS to a simple flat-shaded polygon-only mode when I remembered I just posted this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=120798 SweetFX->Gaussian Blur->Sketch Mode Oddly, Is there a polygon mode available?
7. Definitely, might be a good idea to majorly bump up the noise plugin too so every frame looks different. Will try it when I get home. What is a good way for capturing video?
8. I activated this by accident and was not only surprised by the speed of the plugin but also the results. Set this in your SweetFX Config file: #define GaussEffect 3 //[0|1|2|3] 0 = Blur, 1 = Unsharpmask (expensive), 2 = Bloom, 3 = Sketchy. Default is 2 Time for A-ha - Take On Me perhaps? (Edit: Cropped the external display from the pictures.)
9. Now that screens are getting fairly large (users reporting 55" tv's and above) I was wondering if it's possible to display a ruler in the cockpit so I can set the zoom to the correct perspective for my display. Either that or does someone have a diagram of the SU-25T cockpit so I know how wide the instrument panels are supposed to be?
10. Yeah, I've seen those screenshots but looking at screenshots on a different resolution monitor really doesn't show you the real thing. As for Blackbelters comment. I run 1920x1080 on a 55" LG and I think it looks just fine. I mean, it is...after all a computer game. Oh, and I saw Sony's Personal 3d viewer today and was anything but impressed. I was expecting to put on the glasses and see an 80" screen, instead I found myself straining to make out the menu's of the ps3 that was plugged into it. It just looked like a regular medium size tv in a dark room.
11. It's there but it flies overhead so fast you don't even notice it... (j/k)
12. I just upgraded to a 55" LG @ 1920x1080 from a 37" Aquos @ 1280x768 and the difference is stunning. I can't imagine what DCS would look like on a 4K but I can wait a few years for the price to drop. If you imagine your TV as a window into your aircraft world, having a larger window, even with low resolution, means your perspective will be correct. I think for most computers and TV's out now, HDMI isn't a problem. On my 37" aquos it was only 720p so HDMI was terrible with the computer display.
13. Well if you are rooting for the good ole days nothing beats DOSBOX and a few abandon-ware sites. I recently got Jet Fighter II again to show my wife/students what flight sims were like 20 years ago. She laughed but then realized a lot is the same. The cockpit, instruments, shooting down the bad guys. Some of those old sims are still fun to play around with. The main problem with new games(fortunately DCS doesn't suffer from this) is un-death syndrom. You know, that part where you take 4-5 bullets and are ready to die unless you...somehow pull through...everytime. I miss the old days when games like doom and quake just let you die... DCS is one of the few titles out there that still lets you do that at the expense of having to take off/fly back to the combat area again...
14. Seriously, the simple fact that you put everyone's terrain mods together so we can compare them easily is an accomplishment in and of itself, but your towns and villages mod also removes those "texture level gaps" that keep towns from looking like normal terrain. Well done sir.
15. Found an "error" with ATO-A-P5.2mis The starting position is set as "turning point" not "take off from runway" as the other missions are set. Prefer oatmeal-raisin cookies. Thank you.
16. I can see where the original poster is coming from in this. The idea of a non-linear campaign based on repeated success(because nobody wants to have to fly the same mission twice) isn't very popular. Even in games like Doom, you always had cheats where you could skip to any mission in the game. They didn't stop you from playing the game at all, they just let you do more of what you want. I hate to suggest this, because I know it's going to be taken the wrong way, but maybe DCS should take a page from Angry Birds: 1. Have a huge list of missions that are unlocked based on previous mission success. 2. Allow users to fly any mission they want that they have already unlocked. (And dare I say it...) 3. Give the users a star rating so they have a reason to fly missions again and again to get better scores. I don't think DCS's campaign style is necessarily bad...but it definitely isn't good for people who have limited time to play and can't afford to redo missions again and again. P.S. Definitely want to see the piggies on enemy tanks...
17. Well the point I was trying to make is that things change slowly if you are looking at them through a microscope...
18. Sorry, after reading your latest posting it appears this isn't the problem at all. SweetFX is visible from the main menu of DCS as well as from in the cockpit. Try turning on Film Grain/Noise on and everything else off to confirm it is working.
19. There may be an additional setting you would have to do for this. I'm using two different width displays without problems(sometimes when adjusting settings the big one extends onto the little one...) Gui = { x = screen.width / 3; y = 0; width = screen.width / 3; height = screen.height; } UIMainView = Gui Try reading: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84270 for more information.
20. Oh, hold on. I had this problem too. Sweet FX gets annoyed when you "double define" the keys for controlling SweetFX. Just scroll down in your config file and comment out: /*-----------------------------------------------------------. / Key settings / '-----------------------------------------------------------*/ // This is the section where you can define your own key mapping // See the following URL to find out what keycode a key has: // http://www.cambiaresearch.com/articles/15/javascript-char-codes-key-codes // key_toggle_sweetfx = 145 // key_screenshot = 44 // key_reload_sweetfx = 19 To see if that helps resolve the crash problem. I think the problem is that these keys are defined elsewhere, so this causes a conflict with DCS(and or SweetFX itself.)
21. Dear ED, Please allow for the creation of a viewport for the F10 map. While there is some joy to seeing the F10 map go from a 55" display down to a 20" monitor next to it, the novelty is quickly wearing off. Jonathan P.S. Radio menu, too!
22. Is it possible to have the MFD's draw twice? I have them small due to the Thrustmaster MFD's but if I could have an extra copy drawn twice as large(plenty of space for it) that would be nice...
23. Born in Wisconsin. 35, married, child on the way. Saved up money one summer when I was 12 to go flying but for $100 for 1 hour in a Cesna was way too expensive. Switched to motorcycles. Now I have a Harley and run my own English school in Japan. As for flight sims, started with the C64 and was a huge space simmer until recently. Dumped the entire genre because I don't like the mentality of people producing those games anymore. Looking back now...I did what I had to do to get here and I'll do what I have to to stay...
24. I just had this happen in the training mission where you fly from Georgia to Russia, but not in other missions. Does turning off audible warnings silence all of them or only the currently active ones?
25. 1. Is your windows desktop extended to the 2nd monitor with the screen located to the right of the first? 2. Is your in-game resolution set to cover BOTH monitors? 3. Are you loading a plane with active MFDs? (The SHKVL shows nothing until it's turned on.) 4. Can you extend your original viewport to the 2nd display without trouble?
