  1. So, obviously there is a huge gain by being able to lock onto a target within the pilot's field of view vs the airrcraft, but what I'm wondering now is what is the actual ability to launch a missile . I mean, you'd still have to be somewhat pointed in the direction of your enemy right? Or is it completely possible to launch with the target at 90 degrees off the nose?
  2. No, I'd be flying CAS in a SU-25T. I don't own either of the helicopter modules and there's no way I could learn them before this weekend even if I did purchase them. So flying air escort part way...like in a stealth ops mission, would be interesting...
  3. Any welcomes for other aircraft? Or is this an MI-8 event only?
  4. I get the same thing too on my second monitor for MFDs. Monitor is fine while running as extended desktop. Load DCS and it goes to a slightly odd pink color.
  5. Two fan version would be quieter than a single fan version. My 550 TI sounds like a jet engine when the GPU gets over 70C... After reading everyone's comments I think I will go with the 770 after all. It's a lot more expensive but the reality is it's just not worth upgrading to a 750 TI with only a small performance gain.
  6. Okay, I'll have to think about it a little more. I'm upgrading from a 550 TI but the 770 is expensive and my motherboard is only PCI Express 2.0, not 3.0. I'm just not sure I can justify a card that costs 2.5 times more at this point...
  7. Thanks. I probably won't rush out and buy a soundcard then but i'll think about it if I see something cheap on sale I'll think about it. Although really a better graphics card gets priority then....
  8. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using the new nVidia 750 TI cards. While spec wise the 770 4GB is a monster, so is the pricetag at $500 USD. (My price here in Japan.) Where as the 750 TI 2GB comes in at $180 USD, half the power at 2/5ths the price. Running a single main 1920x1080 display with an extra 1280x1024 for MFCD's only. No plans to add additional monitors in the future. No plans to upgrade to 4K for at least 4-5 years. Has anyone used a 750TI? What kind of framerates do you get?
  9. I was going to ask the exact same thing. I use my nVidia 550 TI to drive my 55" LG via HDMI. Not using sound cables of any kind and since the signal is 100% digital and theoretically noise-free then buying a soundcard should technically...be a downgrade...due to the inherent noise inside the PC case... Comments? I honestly can't justify buying a soundcard after that...
  10. Another slightly offtopic question but I noticed when you switch to 3rd person mode and zoom out at a reasonably fast rate, you can see the clouds "twitching" which is they turn/move slightly in one direction then snap back, based on how fast you are zooming. Is this due to low-resolution clouds or is there a camera math error involved? (Push F2, look straight down at plane, zoom out continuously at a regular rate to experience this...)
  11. Title says it all. It seems like every time I take off on the SU-25T my aircraft veers to the left or the right but never goes straight down the runway. I end up using the rudders and sliding down at hard angles sometimes the darting up into the air just before take off. Is it possible this is a controller issue where one engine isn't at 100% thrust? Or should I not be annoyed by my computerized wingman who does it perfect every time...
  12. I realize this is a longshot because the SU-25T is an integral(free) part of DCS World as a whole but I think there should be a dedicated forum just for this aircraft instead of mixing it with general DCS World information. Especially now that there is a trainer P-50 Mustang available, we need to keep aircraft specific questions separate from the engine itself. Comments? Criticism?
  13. Or hit the ' (") key to see your score in real time. Then it will show your success rate... Anything over 51 is considered a win.
  14. Odd question but is there any way to adjust the ocean waves to simulate blasts of wind across the surface? It seems like now the wave height/length settings for all water is uniform for all missions when realistically it should be different for strong winds/rough seas and no wind/calm seas... P.S. Willing to purchase additional 3-4 computers to have the CPU power to do this...
  15. Just my 2 cents: I have an intel i5 2500k with 16gb DDR3 1600mhz that *isn't* overclocked. Running DCS I was surprised to see that even though my video card is maxed out (which needs upgrading, a GTX 550 ti) the CPU was humming along with 1 core at 30% and 3 cores at idle... So the main process uses about 2gb of ram, and the system uses maybe 4 total leaving 12 completely untouched... So, I'm gonna say something probably unbelievable, but unless you are also planning on doing video editing/movie converting/rendering, any CPU you choose today, as long as it's half decent, will probably last you 3-5 years. The most important thing is to make sure your base system is stable and well cooled, and then get a reasonably decent video card, but plan on upgrading it once or twice over the life of the system. 640k is plenty of memory.
  16. Go crazy. Get yerself a set of Slaw Device pedals from Poland. The price will kill you, but they'll still be around and working even after USB no longer exists...
  17. Hello, At least a decent number of games contain some form of an FPS test or benchmark map. I'd like to see one (or two) maps or ideally even a replay that would show the same high intensity scenes over and over so people having problems and/or benchmarking between versions can compare results. Does something like this already exist? If not, is anyone interested in making a decent replay with a reasonably high amount of action for system testing? Doesn't need to be anything official, in my opinion, but it would be nice to have everyone on the same page for testing purposes... Especially if the map included all models just as a system stress test...
  18. Try the scroll lock key to see if you can disable SweetFX (should work in the main menu). If it disappears, then go into DCS World/bin/ folder and edit SweetFX_settings.txt there. Maybe you installed SweetFX first, and then added it again via JSGME?
  19. Ditto Griffin's negativity: 1. If it's in the news, the cat is already out of the bag. 2. Do you actually know anyone in the company who is giving you a special deal? Nope. 3. Very few people live long enough to actually cash out on their investments. If you'd bought Apple stock, would you actually sell it now? Or wait for it to split a few more times... If you want to make money, incorporate, get other people to invest in you, have a nice party, then declare bankruptcy. That's the way to do it these days.
  20. Not to derail but I'd definitely love to see DCS: Gripen... Something about that plane seems, well, it's like a scooter: Sure it's not as cool as a Hornet but they sure are fun to ride...
  21. *BUMP* What model of LCD are you using?
  22. Just a really odd question on this: Would running a standard 15-pin VGA monitor, as opposed to something DVI/HDMI for a second display cause the card to overheat? I was just using an old 20" @ 1280x1024 for my SHKVL/Thrustmaster because I honestly didn't think it would put any additional load on the card(that is, aside from the normal load of running a second display...)
  23. I think I might have figured it out: nVidia released a bit of code that causes graphics cards to run/overclock based on temperature instead of just initial settings. I rolled my drivers back to 314.22, because I think I remember updating my drivers just before installing 1.2.8, kinda fuzzy there. Anyway, maybe the latest nVidia drivers/550ti's don't get along well... After rolling them back once I was able to finish the mission without it crashing. I will try it at least 3 more times this week(without modifying anything else on the system) to confirm this is the problem. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/nvidia-freezes.html ***UPDATE*** Sure enough, after watching the framerate carefully I noticed the screen would black out for maybe just a 10th of a second but after that my frame rate would drop by 1/3rd, then about a minute later it would bump back up again. With the older drivers, the computer would step down its framerate but keep moving. With the new drivers it'd just lock hard. I checked nVidia's sites and the 550 ti is a real powerhog using almost double the power of a 750ti. I guess upgrading would save me double hassle as my 650W psu would then be enough again. Thanks to everyone who wrote in. And no, my swap drive is still disabled. :)
  24. Definitely a big monitor, 55"+ with a TrackIR. You'll feel at home when objects have a 1:1 ratio as they would to real life. Especially if you can get a 4K TV, the setup is far easier than running a triple monitor and dealing with Helios and other things that break with each version release. Next up is definitely a Thrustmaster Warthog, Cougar Displays and a decent set of rudder pedals. I highly recommend the Slaw Device from Poland. Solid steel construction that'll last you until USB no longer exists...
  25. Hasn't been a problem until now. I'll test that next. I had virtual memory disabled because I heard it wears out SSD's faster. Tried disabling USB 3.0 completely and reset everything to stock clocks. (Although I only overclocked it once yesterday, just to be sure.) Doesn't seem to affect temperature of the CPU or the graphics card. Played APO-B-3.3 (The Su-25T mission, I play the same one every time to make sure i'm not changing any factors) and I locked again this evening after about 30-45 minutes.
