  1. Slaw's pedals are absolutely amazing. They feel even more realistic than the Thrustmaster Warthog as far as quality and accuracy goes. The solid steel construction feels like you have something real under your feet. I can't promote them enough. Any serious simmer should definitely give the a shot.
  2. A message to the original poster, thanks for all of the information you provided. While I don't have the resources to go to a 4K tv yet(they are ridiculously expensive in Japan) and also upgrading my video card is just not possible at this time, I did upgrade to a 55" LG @ 1920x1080 resolution. While I am using a spare 20" for the MFD's, the 55" totally changed the game for me. Jets are now at their "correct sizes" when zoomed properly. It no longer feels like I'm looking at a computer screen even though my previous display was a 37" Aquos @ 1280x768. With the LG being 110% larger than the Aquos, even my wife said the difference is crystal clear.
  3. From what I read in the config files you need to define individual craft by hand. Mine looks like this (For MFD's): This way I my A-10 MFD's fit within the Thrustmaster MFD's but the SU-25T's MFD is fullscreen...
  4. Yeap, and don't forget you can create settings for individual aircraft. I have my A-10 settings for both MFD's on my "righty" but for all other planes (including the SU-25T) I simply have a fullscreen SHKVL on my spare 1280x1024 20" monitor...
  5. My current setup is as follows: 55 inch lg @ 1920x1080 20 inch monitor @ 1280x1024 I am putting the MFD's on the 20" but I don't see a need to put the rest of the cockpit down there as well. I am wondering if it's possible to configure a second viewport on that monitor that works at 100% zoom(i.e. binoculars). Any ideas on this one?
  6. Is it possible the settings for 1.2.6 are still alive and kicking somewhere else? It sounds like 1.2.7 didn't find your configuration files. I updated here without any problems. Sorry to hear about your loss.
  7. I have the TM Warthog after having had the X-52 for years. I will never buy anything Saitek without trying it first again so that rules out the X-65 for me. I think the big difference between the Warthog and "other" joysticks is that the Warthog feels like a real controller for a real plane, whereas the Saitek's are just "a glorified video game controller." I also have that really old Thrustmaster in a box, the 4 button+hat one. I used that one for a good 10 years, then tried the X-52 for about 2-3, then the TM. It's not about the name for me, it's about having an actual piece of steel instead of a piece of plastic in my hand...
  8. Edit SweetFX_Settings.txt and set #define USE_SPLITSCREEN 0 //[0 or 1] Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode. To Z-E-R-O.
  9. Just like Frostie said. The hardest thing to learn in this game is that nothing is spoon-fed to you. The waypoints are there to give you a general idea of where to go, but finding the enemy, that's YOUR job. In fact, that's the entire point of being a military pilot. Whatever gets you there, kills the bad guys, and gets you home in one piece...
  10. I really don't have much technical information to add, but a comment I remember from a test pilot who was involved said (and I'm slightly misquoting) "the Lockheed plane just looks like the next generation fighter..." I honestly think that even if the Boeing design was more capable than Lockheed's, Lockheed would have won anyway simply because delta wing aircraft just don't look like what a "modern" air force should. That's a highly opinionated statement but appearances definitely do matter. Even though the Thunderbolt was more capable than it's counterpart during testing, I can't really imagine a world where the other plane would have become the main choice for CAS missions.... For me, it's really amazing how even when you get past all of the technical specifications of an aircraft, there is still that overall feel/look to it that seems to carry just as much importance as everything else inside.
  11. It's too bad this topic has been derailed... To answer the OP's question: I think that a 7th generation fighter, if manned by a human, wouldn't be too different from the F-35 except that it would include some form of direct compatibility between human-drones. That is to say, a human fighter, surrounded by drones for additional defense. Sort of like what AWACS are for fighters now, except the next level(for air to air missions) would be increasing sheer numbers of drones per fighter to increase the chance of winning in a large scale first-contact scenario. Ironically, this brings back memories of that really ugly fat jet launched from the B-52's. I can't remember the name at the moment so maybe it'd be better to imagine the X series test planes as drones...

    Fantasy modules

Definitely the Mig from Firefox with Clint Eastwood. That thing was something else. Not really special, but just something else...
  13. Certainly. I'm always very careful to make sure I don't blame ED for something I broke. Sorry if I gave the impression that I would be breaking things and pointing fingers...
  14. I guess the only way to do for sure is to try it then. With 1.2.7 I want to give DCS a completely new install and make sure nothing bad is 'carried over.' I will of course, be modding, but that's like a 5-10 minute job with JGSME vs. redoing key settings which could take a few hours...
  15. If you are doing all of this without a TrackIR and a real HOTAS then my hat is off to you because you are flying, in a manner of speaking, that is way harder than it has to be... As for this simulation, the rule of thumb for learning isn't "does it work?" but "how...does it work?" May all your enemy MANPADS be blind...
  16. Just out of curiosity, is there an easy way to safely export and import keyboard/joysticks settings for aircraft? I have a lot of switches that are down=..., up=.... or otherwise on my HOTAS and I'd like to do a completely clean install for 1.2.7 but get my key settings back as fast as possible...
  17. ENO and Kaktus29 sum it up. I don't feel as if I'm learning something new when I play DCS. I feel like I'm keeping an important part of history alive...
  18. You sit 4.5 meters away from the TV? Wow. I'm running a 37" Sharp LCD and I can clearly make out the pixels at 1.5 meters in 1280x768 (720p, unfortunately it's not 1080p). I think my next tv is going to be the LG 55la6600 (or 55ea6600). Having literally twice the display size of my 37" for games will be hard to complain about. I'm not sure how using windows will be at that resolution though...
  19. Just out of curiousity, besides A. plugging something in and seeing it get fried or B. using a voltmeter to check levels, is there any other way to check if the USB 3.0 ports are safe for USB 2.0 stuff?
  20. Maybe I'm just stupid but I thought you couldn't connect USB 1 and 2 devices to USB 3 ports? Especially, I thought I read a warning that connecting the Warthog to USB3 would kill it...
  21. I had a lot of problems with T.A.R.G.E.T.'s installation but after that the software, while slightly confusing, works pretty good. I think it works better under Windows 7 than XP...
  22. This is honestly a really good question. I think a better question is what would it take to get the community to formally adopt JSGME as it's "standard" for mods, and get the board moderators to make a sticky about it under 2-3 of the topics related to mods... I installed JSGME and I've not had a single problem with updates since...
  23. Just out of curiosity how would a 55" HDTV 3D television + glasses + trackIR compare to an Occulus rift as it stands? It seems like the TV would have better resolution and no problems with seeing your own controls and the TrackIR should make up for head movement. Or is the rift just on a whole new level?
  24. Sorry, I have to withdraw my entry as I'm not using steam with DCS. (X) DCS Su-25 Flaming Cliffs (X) Love the T, want to try caffeine free...
  25. Yeah, like I said, I really enjoy have an all metal base and handle. When I saw they wanted 270 Euros for a piece of plastic... Well, I'll just be sticking with my Warthog...
