Heh, now I feel a lot better, I just broke my track clip pro last weekend when I set it and the attached headphones down. Fixed mine using a clip from the dollar store usually used to hold glued stuff in place. Has anyone taken a trackclip pro apart? is it easy to power the lights with a battery? Ironically I've got wireless headphones but the trackclip keeps me tied down...

iPad (mini) as touchscreen display
docfu replied to docfu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah. That's actually what I'm looking for. I have an ipad mini and I don't want to buy touchscreens. Of course, the SU-25 doesn't have a clickable cockpit, but eventually when I switch to the A-10 I thought it would be a good way to go instead of third party soft. Look+Zoom. -

Ahh, so using an app to remote view the main display wouldn't work... I guess that's the approach I was going for. Thanks. -

Aren't there Helios set ups with TrackIR tied to a touchscreen? -

Hello, I recently got an ipad mini and I'm looking to maybe add it into my rig. While I've seen iControl DCS and Touch IR, I was wondering if there anyone simply uses the iPad as a second display? What I would like to do is have the ipad mirror the middle most section of the screen on zoom, so that way, no matter where I look with my trackIR, the Ipad is looking there, too. Then I could simply touch the iPad to flip switches. The main reason I am posting a new thread is because the main craft I fly is the Su-25T, not the Warthog, so it would seem that iControl and Touch IR would be mostly worthless from what I've seen. Appreciate any comments. Thanks. Jonathan

First I would try turning everything off to find out what is blooming the sun. For me I thought Technicolor might be fun and it did make the clouds look fantastic but everything else became really hard to see.

Not sure if anyone will want it or not but this is my SweetFX profile: Just a few details: Film grain is turned on to give static textures a living feel. It doesn't look that great in the menus but while you are playing it gives a much better effect. Bloom and vibrance are used to give better lighting and glare effects to lights. Finally advanced CRT, with the CRT bend/barrel effect off and set to high res, gives you the feeling that you are looking through a camera's LCD while recording a video. These effects together totally changed the DCS World experience for me. (FYI: the color pattern from advanced CRT isn't that strong while I'm playing the game.) SweetFX_settings.txt

Don't want to make this a way back when forum, but anyone remember those two flight simulators on the C64? I just remember they had really cool black boxes...

Will the A-10A be the Jet for my Son and I?
docfu replied to kronovan's topic in A-10A for DCS World
You should be just fine with that. Your comp seriously outpaces mine and I don't have any trouble. The only thing to note is that stock DCSW isn't nearly as pretty as it could be. If you get serious about it be sure to download JSGME for mods (google search the boards for it) and SweetFX. You'll have a game that makes you feel like you are really in a movie then... -

That's 4 months to find a girl, plan a wedding, move in together, get good with her parents/family, get 100 people together for the wedding and have a honeymoon...all in a foreign language (I am an American living in Japan.) I'm back to DCSW now because I need a break and so does she! (That and her dad is into RC cars and helicopters, so I'm getting it ready to show him what kind of toys I play with...)

Wow...just wow... Seriously... I took 4 months off gaming to find a wife and get married and I come back to find the post processing package I was looking for works not only here but in all games... Wow...just wow...

Did you edit the shortcut to reflect the DCS World directory and create your own MODS directory for JSMGE to run in? -

Hey, What res/mods are you running with? Is that standard FC3?

I want the Duke Nukem 3D sound effect where he says "Ahh...much better..." on use. And +5 to health/repairs. That'll make it worthy...

When I was a kid, my parents never got angry at me for blowing up tie fighters because "the empire was bad." However, ironically, they had a lot of complaints about Doom at first because of the satanic symbols, never mind that you are the one KILLING the demons... Even then, they never had any problems when Tie Fighter came out...and I started shooting rebels instead. (What can I say? The empire had better dental care...) Lately, however, I have a similar feeling, but it's more or less that rather than playing a simulation and pretending, I should be doing something that actually makes a difference in the world. There are people risking their lives to help people in Africa or North Korea, and I just sit around playing a simulator pretending to blow stuff up. There's nothing wrong with playing a game where you simulate war. The fact that maybe simulations like these can help people develop a moral conscious in the long run makes them worth while. Sure we all start off as kids thinking "shoot the bad guys, win" but as we grow older we come to see the real colors of these situations, to truly understand, even if it is "just a video game" that real people matter and have value, a value that can't be replaced by a machine. I think the biggest moment I had that keeps me playing was when I tried to fly a SU-25 mission with NO LABELS and I realized...my god...it really is impossible for me to tell, even on a high res screen, if that's a friendly or enemy tank using just the SHKVAL. Yet there are pilots who fly with that equipment every day, fight wars with it, and live with the stress that every time they pull the trigger, they might be making the mistake that ends not only their career, but the lives of their fellow troops. That's not a stress I could live with, and I'm grateful that I was able to learn it from something that's "just a video game." And so I fly, and the more realistic these simulators get, the more colorful they become. ... And in the darkness I have lost my way....and gained a conscious as a result.

Was that a bump? I think that was a bump!
-
Can these be used to modify the SU-25's SHKVAL?

This is easily the way DCS/ED should be doing mods... It won't even cost them any money to say "Hey...use this..." Thank you, I'm gonna start modding my original install again and original modders should release their mods so they work with this from the start... -
I'll give the designer of this a lot of credit. I was slightly involved with the "Diaspora" project in terms of voice acting over at http://www.hard-light.net which is based on Battlestar Galactica. Most people doing space sims just want that intense feeling of combat and Freespace 2 was/is by far the best combat space sim ever. However, 10 years on...it feels like a toy. They still only use "shields/weapons/engines" for settings in ships but there is something even more important and that is that targeting/radar systems don't function even remotely realistically because they work perfectly all of the time(unless they are programmed not to, for a specific mission.) Even with Apollo 13 when the capsule ran into trouble they were able to completely rework the start-up sequence to save the crew. This system-by-system mentality is what makes simulators realistic instead of fantasy. I think the way the designer is tackling this is a much, much better way of handling space simulators and I think having lots of options in the cockpit makes a lot more sense than NOT having them.

Reworked Cockpit Views with proper Neck

The difference is just the true resolution: I'm running a Sharp 37" 720p @ 1280x768 resolution. For the most part, games look awesome and with a TrackIR everything is really smooth. A 1080p would get you 1920x1280 which is quite a jump in resolution, but really for 32 inches I'm not sure if it's worth a fuss... In your case though, you'll be stepping down. But do this: before you start a fight, set your 23" to 1024x768 and just play for an hour. If it drives you crazy, then you have your answer.
