Thank you for the fast response. I guess for all practical purposes we'll consider this thread dead until an option for auto-modding presents itself.

Is there any reason for keeping this list up to date? Or does the auto-updater automatically break mods? (Sorry, I've been gone for a few months...)

Improved water effects ? ? ? (how can we get back) v1.2.1.5970
docfu replied to Hamblue's topic in DCS Wishlist
Sorry, I missed something here. There was this nice new awesome water and now it's been removed in 1.2.2? I'm not seeing water like in the screenshots... -
Why am I *still* having problems clicking on the QUIT menu?

Upgrade X52Pro to Thustmaster HOTAS
docfu replied to Nybble's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had the X-52 and I upgraded to the Warthog and gave my x-52 to a friend. Don't regret a second of it. Was worth every penny... -
5.4 million dollars for going off the runway... Hell, just for that I loaded up DCS and hit the gear button while on the ground...just for giggles!

Just a note about ILS systems. I'm not sure about the ones in Georgia but the ones we had in Wisconsin that my dad used to maintain were analog vacuum tube based models that were constantly going out of sync. He would go out to the local airports every month or so and retune them so that people wouldn't crash during bad weather... Of course, the whole reason we knew they were out of sync in the first place is because the airport manager would call us after going out on a flight to let us know it was broken again. Just an FYI of reality versus games. P.S. I also remember the airports having these giant fog-buster lights for bad weather. I'm surprised those aren't in DCS, at least. I haven't seen anything like them.

I have this same problem with the pilot texture for the SU-25T upon eject. Doesn't matter if the A-10C is installed or not.

It's beautiful. I plugged it in the recommended upgrades post... Speaking of clouds, is there any way change the LOD on the rendering of individual clouds? I get lots of flipping on nearby clouds...

Dont know if this goes here, but here it is anyway

I think that belongs in the Wishlist section for graphics. :) -
Honestly I almost thought SupCom was a disappointment. I got sick of zooming in and out to see the action and it just wasn't as much fun as TA was with UTASP (+400 really crazy units). More than just having crazy variety though, I think Supreme Commander just tried to be too serious. Even in the new video the guy is like "yeah, nobody remembers WHY we are fighting anymore...HEY! ASTEROID BOMBS!" That sort of shallowness in games, like between Doom 1+2 and Doom 3, is really what makes the fun ones fun...

Sorry, I didn't realize we were talking two different comps here. For the notebook, buy an external HD case. Seriously. Fix your main comp, pull the notebook drive, plug it into the main computer and take a look before you start running data recovery software. It'll let you know exactly what got messed up and you should be able to poke around without destroying anything...

Before ordering everything new just keep in mind today's computers are pretty resilient. I once had a Radeon's fan go bad and when it went, it took the power supply with it (but not the motherboard/cpu/ram). Try to check those old components as much as possible if you are on a tight budget...

Naw, don't delete it, that would be wrong in so many ways... Just change it to read "More after this intermission..." (Or if you wanted to help...by say...taking care of recommended missions and individual module packs, that would be a plus...)

This should just be a linked list of user-recommended updates. It doesn't have to be the end-all repository for all information about them. That just means there is more stuff to sort through. I'll make sure if there are any additional add-on's they all fit in the first post.

I want to take a second and apologize to Viper publicly if he thinks my message was a personal attack at him. It wasn't. There's a point, however, where you have to value people's opinions in addition to statistics and logic. If you overly rely on the latter, you make people very angry because you discount their personal experience. Nobody likes being made less of a human. I really hate the zoom effect. Period. Never get between a man and something he hates. And to Viper or anyone else I offended. I apologize.

I disagree with your assessment completely. If something is annoying to users, that is enough of a reason to change it alone. The game exists to be our form of entertainment. Not for us to be annoyed with. ED exists here to serve us, and because it serves us mostly-well, we give it our hard earned money. We want to make ED more accessible to other people as well. That is why we offer our criticisms of their products with the hope they can understand our point of view and change their products to better serve us. Game companies don't complain when someone said "Hey, all of that flashing to white can cause people with epilepsy to have seizures." They put a warning notice at the beginning of the game or remove the effect all together so it doesn't become a problem. Removing the code that causes that annoying zoom effect is a 5 minute job. I'm not asking for a menu option to turn it off. I'm asking for it to be gone. It may only be 3 seconds at the beginning of a mission, but it's 3 seconds I REGRET after a loading screen, rather than 3 seconds I say "okay let's get busy." So, if you want a constructive and persuasive argument. Try this: I DON'T LIKE IT. PERIOD. Because my opinion as a customer should be good enough for ED to listen to. They don't need statistical reports, logical arguments or scientific studies to know that something ANNOYS their customers. They should listen to and correct bad design decisions BEFORE people start getting angry. That is common sense.

You know, when I started this thread I was in a slightly good mood until I opened DCS and I was like "Ugh, that damn zoom effect at the beginning of missions...again." To be honest, I totally blew off playing Final Fantasy 7 for the same reason. There was just NO GOOD REASON to have a stupid zoom-in-on-the-map effect EVERY time you went into a battle, which was all of like every 30 seconds in the game. Even more annoying in DCS, the game starts at the correct zoom level, then zooms OUT...then IN...then with the trackIR, actually finishes zoomed OUT more than I need it to be by default...not just once...but every time so I start each mission by fixing the trackIR settings and then the zoom settings. The simple fact is that zooming is a nauseous effect. Not just in this game, but in general. It's always annoying when someone takes control of the camera from you and starts playing with the zoom. Like right when you go to view something you want to see, except that the person controlling the camera zooms in too far and then you miss seeing the entire picture in favor of what THAT person thought was interesting... Really, if you need an effect at the start of missions, either do fade in from black, or fade in from white. Those two NEVER annoy me. They don't annoy me in TV commercials, they don't annoy me in movies, they don't annoy me in video games. Playing with the zoom, and I'm sorry, but saying you need to "play with the zoom to get the correct aspect ratio on various displays" is just BS. I'm sorry, but it's BS. No? Don't like that answer? Well, I'm sorry, but any and I mean ANY excuse or reason you come with...is...just BS. Get over yourself. Put down your keyboard. Stand up. Go to the nearest mirror, look into it and say "I have a problem because I believe the display needs to be zoomed in and out to make missions more interesting." There is absolutely NO reason that the zoom has to be zoomed out then in at the beginnning of every mission. None. Zilch. Zero. None-what-so-ever. No really. Don't hit reply. Don't write a response. Nobody wants to hear it. Nobody is going to come to your defense and say "Oh but he's right! Zoom at the beginning of the mission just makes me happy and I wanna go out and hug flowers and be everyone's friend!" Take your hands off my zoom control. Take them off, and put your hands back in your pockets. Don't give me any excuses. I don't want to hear them. Take your hands off my zoom control and keep them off. That's for me to use. Not you...me. Period. The End. Close this thread and give ED a kick in the ass for annoying it's customers.

Here here! Or is that Hear hear! Either way, let it be so ED.

Well, I added Real Sound but I've got some bad news, the post is now at it's maximum character limit size. So in order to keep adding additional entries, I'm going to reduce the size of the information in the spoiler sections to just screenshots and overviews. People should be getting information directly from the thread anyway. The spoiler boxes should just be a preview...

Well, not exactly. The thing is with that photo there is no blending between the grass and the terrain at the distance, it just ends... What I meant is that grass in the distance is rendered at say only 25% alpha, grass midway at 50%, etc so you can't see where the grass ends and the terrain starts... Of course, motion blur on the grass if the camera is moving would probably just solve the whole problem altogether...

Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. Anyone else?

Hi ED, I realize for non-track IR users the "zoom" effect during the mission start is probably a nice effect to get them into the cockpit, but for me as a TrackIR user it just means I have to wait 10 sections and then reset the Zoom on the cockpit. Is there any way to disable this? docfu

You should see the fights that occur in the bar afterwards between all the different AI trying to take credit for the kills.
