  1. Haha, sorry Jay! I was on the phone today for an hour with a friend named Jeff. just overflow error I guess. I agree 100%. I just want the stick to do the functions needed for the sim and don't care at all what it looks like. No issues whatsoever using a A10 stick for Spitfire, as long as it's smooth. My warthog stick is just frustrating me for refueling and close formation because it's hard not to over control with it. It's hard to "unstick" it without moving it more than desired.
  2. What is the current version of SRS? A day or two ago I was offered an update to version 1.9.0 and went ahead and installed it. Problem is none of the servers are running it and its incompatible. Did I somehow get a beta version that no one else is using?

    P38L

Another big problem was the early versions did not have hydraulic flight controls and at speed the roll rate suffered dramatically. A friend of mine has a L-P38 type rating and mentioned the dramatic difference with and without the hydraulics. Part of the type ride was flying with the hydraulics off, and you had to completely take your hands off the controls prior to turning them back on. Even the lightest stick pressure would cause it to snap roll when hydraulics were turned back on.
  4. Wow Jeff, that was an amazing review. Thanks for that. I bookmarked your page. I'm sold on VKB now, I just wish they had a F-16 style grip because I'm so used to it. Maybe I'll grab the F14 version, and add one of the other grips for the other sims... Just not sure which one would best substitute for the F-16 / A-10 style grip without losing functionality....
  5. That is certainly interesting. I have long thought DCS should model the world with all its airports and regions, but it seems that has not been the focus and the world is flat status quo may remain for some time. I'd rather start with a rudimentary base map of the world in a minimum level of detail to permit using it for flight between airports and to and from already defined theaters. Maybe at some point DCS should focus on a map of the whole world, and then going forward add and integrate existing and new theatres into it. Hopefully the continents won't drift too far before this happens. I also think there is a whole base of simmers from other genres that would appreciate the fidelity of DCS world if had a bigger selection of regions to fly in. If you consider the size of the world and all its potential areas of interest, and then multiply that by the # of various time periods for which unique details / theatres could be added, there is plenty of room for growth and products that appeal to a large audience.
  6. Given that this is something (short of putting us in a centrifuge) that is not possible to determine for us as individuals, it seems the best answer is to assume our simulated pilot's g tolerance is like the best of the best as far as g-loc is concerned. Sometimes it seems DCS models it like we are untrained civilians taking our first backseat ride in a Viper.
  7. I haven't used or changed at least intentionally the Microsoft Speech system other than the initial training it asked me to do when I first installed voice attack and VAICOM the other day. I'll try speaking it with a better gap. Ok, just retried again from the editor page without DCS running. It works fine if VoiceAttack is the window in focus, but this doesn't allow you to cursor through the list. If the window in focus is the VAICOM app which allows you to cursor through the terms, then it does one of two things, It either: 1. interprets "select" as "selecting", or 2. pops up an alternates panel that gives different choice, like "elect BDU' or "select EDU" or "collect BDU", etc. I'm not sure why the alternates panel comes up at all, but it doesn't if voice attack is in focus. When I am doing this, is it learning to better understand my voice or just train me to say the terms? Thanks for this awesome software. I should have started using it a long time ago!
  8. I assume this question is directed at me. I’m happy paying precisely the same amount I paid for DCS, DCS 1.5, 2, and 2.5. I suppose I paid for the development of each of these indirectly through purchasing many products staring with Black Shark for the DCS environment. In fact, after just recently adding F-16, supercarrier, and MiG-19 ED has received more from me by a lot than any other software franchise, and I’ve been a gamer for a long time. Seriously, it’s a chicken or egg argument. DCS is doing well with the current model. Why change it if it ain’t broken? But more than anything, a subscription model will do little to grow the community, which is Probably more important for future revenue than just the existing base.
  9. I like the current model because it provides something for everyone. Let’s face it, for some the cost of a single module can be a stretch, especially in today’s environment. Currently, if you have the necessary hardware you can play totally free on a couple modules. This is great. As someone who has been using ED products since the original flanker demo was out, I think this is a step toward building a bigger community, which benefits us all. Some, like me, have all or most of the modules. I’m not against paying for stuff, but I’d much rather “own” than “rent”. For example, some of the modules I’ve bought have been used less than a handful of times. This is ok with me, because I own the right to use them in perpetuity and like the fact that I’ll likely use them later on some occasion. I’ve spent far more on DCS than I ever would have if it were a subscription model. I’m ok with this, but I’m not ok with paying a subscription for something I’ve already bought, and what I bought was the ability to use each of the modules including in a multiplayer environment that is compatible with other users going forward. A subscription model would surely mess this up.
  10. Just bought this and want to set it up for multiplayer with SRS integration. Is my understanding correct that in order to speak over SRS I have to first issue a VAICOM command while holding the TX down and then after the command is complete continuing to hold the TX will cause the SRS to broadcast publicly? Or Is there some sort of toggle I am missing? I’d like to be able to also transmit on SRS just by itself. Also, in going through the training mode using the editor more for all the words, Most are recognized correctly but the ones that begin with “select” are really problematic.
  11. Sort of a tangent, but I recently came back to DCS after being away from my DCS hardware for about nine months to a year. The improvements in VR all on the same hardware have been remarkable. If you're on regularly with the openbeta sometimes it is hard to see the incremental performance stuff especially when bugs and issues that pop up. As far as the big picture, I'm encouraged by the last year's progress.
  12. Thanks, I will have to try these. I definitely need something. I'm not sure who's more tired, me or the warthog? Almost feel like it's time for a new stick. It just has way too much friction to make the small inputs I want.
  13. Today's update corrected daytime HUD brightness issues, but I think we to be able to have lower intensity levels at the bottom end of the scale. At night the lowest settings for the HUD and helmet are VERY bright, reducing night vision.
  14. How'd this work out for you? I've been having intermittent black screens on my Rift lately, too. Very frustrating. I can confirm in my case its not a USB issue (I think). Seems to have the same problem with USB3.0 and 3.1 from my MB, and also using a powered hub. Never had any issueson the same hardware prior to May 2020. Pre-ordered a Reverb G2 because of this, but if there is a fix it would be great until this shows.
  15. I use VR, but I think one of the issues with VR is the headset doesn’t allow you to look as far back over your shoulder as you could realistically. This is because IRL you can angle your neck x degrees plus roll your eyes in the same direction. The same Eye angle with a headset and your not looking at the lenses, but rather the interior housing of the headset. This creates a bigger blind spot than is realistic. DCS should take the idea of scaling the head turn from Track IR and apply it to VR. Track IR is completely unrealistic, because you can set it to easily look directly behind you with a small turn of the head, which makes for a huge advantage in SA. I used this before VR and may try it again soon just for kicks. I’m still on gen 1 VR, and I think spotting is still nearly impossible at anything but the closest range, but don’t want to give up the realistic flight feeling of VR.
  16. NIce explanation. It’s a shame with the small number of airports in each map we don’t have a nav database with procedures. The real airplanes must have full nav databases With these procedures don’t they?
  17. Is there a way to tell if these are still current mods with the latest version of DCS?

    F-15E UFC poll

I agree with you. It's not like using "The Final Countdown" as a canonical basis to justify the use of missiles against WWII aircraft.

    Whichever weighs less.
  20. Very doubtful in the long run. For example, I ordered my RIFT immediately when they started taking orders. Later on it was 60 % of this price and INCLUDED controllers, which basically never went on sale. So the early adopters ended up paying more than double if they wanted the full package. That’s the price of being an early adopter I guess. I think the RIFT, this new RVerb, and a few DCS modules might be the only things I’ve ever preordered. Usually I’m more sensible. DCS :pilotfly:
  21. Ah, thanks. Makes sense. Seems if you go to Steam to preorder it takes you to the same place as well.
  22. I wonder if the cable alone could be upgraded ? Hopefully these are the kind of parts that can be replaced? I remember slicing the cable on my Bose Aviation X headset about 15 years ago on a seat track and that would have been a $1000 mistake otherwise. Anything as expensive as this stuff should have parts available.
  23. Just preordered. Did everyone else who preordered get sent to connection.com and not HP, Steam or Microsoft? Just surprised it is preordered from a middle man. I think my Rift is on its last leg, random and sometimes frequent black screens (sometimes with snow) in DCS. Hopefully my 1080ti will push the reverb gen 2 well enough on low settings until i can get my hands on next gen video card. DCS seems so improved in VR for the new release maybe there is hope...
  24. Thanks. That worked.
  25. I don’t have an option in the VR tab for zooming. Might there be another setting that is needed to enable this?
